It's no joke really, I was skeptical about technology addiction until I saw a red "beaver" runing out of my little red dot light. After that I felt very uneasy about my phone so much that it made me sick to my stomach, along with paranoia and that is from being on my phone for around 12 hours a day with little socialization. Yet here I am on my phone as usual. Isolation and screens don't go along very well and it shouldn't be a suprise.

I knew something was very wrong with the world when I saw people on bikes glued to their cell phone, on skateboards glued to their cell phone, driving a car and glued to their cell phone, in movie theaters and glued to their cell phone, a mother pushing her baby in a carriage and glued to her cell phone, a mother walking her little daughter home from school and glued to her cell phone, people walking in a park and glued to their cell phone, a father playing soccer with his daughter at the park and periodically checking his cell phone. My advice is PUT YOUR CELL PHONE DOWN AND PAY ATTENTION TO THE PERSON IN FRONT OF YOU.

Make it a rule in life to do something real outside of your phone and there is PLENTY to do if you look around.
There are things to be cleaned every day in your home or apartment.
There are things that need to be replaced and/or repaired.
There are people around you that are crying for help in silence.
There is a meal you can cook in advance so you have something to eat for 2 or 3 days.

  • @-Vitalis-
    @-Vitalis- Před 7 lety +896

One month ago, just decided not to use a cell phone again... as part of a personal experiment.
I started to notice how my anxiety levels decreased after one week. I also felt more focused on my daily tasks and conversations. Even my mood improved a little. Also I felt this very comfy sensation of "having enough time for everything": cooking, cleaning, reading a book, et cetera... since I didn't have to watch a screen every 15 minutes, therefore, not having to interrupt any activity. No more phone updates, ringtones, playing the newest game from the App store. It was like freedom.
After two weeks, my quality of sleep highly improved and I became more confident to talk to new people and hanging out. I nearly aborted my project after day 19 due to pressure from friends and family, who started telling me they were getting worried "about not seeing me worried by this experiment" or "not giving them likes or sending them smilies". Priceless. The benefits of not using a cellphone vs using one were becoming real, so I just carried on. Everytime I was in need of information, just asked people or went to the library (yeah, those places still exist). An adress? Asked people on street. Some of them looked at me like "Use Waze and stop bothering me". I just smiled at them. Also, no more "pay everything or do transactions" with phone. Started paying bills the good ol' way: bank agents. Bloody hell... I even started to enjoy talking with them.
After three weeks, I decided to go further: no more social media nor television. No more pics nor selfies. Whenever I started a conversation at work about the things I was discovering... I slowly started to feel how sterile and trivial the conversations were, always talking about that new viral video and its derivations. At one point, I told myself "Damn, these people are boring and totally laughing thanks to the same old jokes, memes and hashtags". It felt like waking up from a monotonous nightmare.
Day 30 came and I just began to charge my phone in the morning. Reached my goal. All of a sudden, a thought drilled my brain: I'd have to read through hundreds of new info, emails, watch tons of pics (food ones included, ugh) and waste time on that. Oh yeah: WASTE MY TIME ON THAT. And all for what? Fulfilling my desperate need for some illusory glory thanks to social media?
Just gave the phone to my brother that very day.
Call me hipster, caveman, crazy fucker or whatever... but thanks to this experiment, just realized owning a cell phone is completely optional ("modern tool for survival" my balls) and the need of having one is imposed by marketing/group pressure phenomenons, both of which... in the end... do not care about your real needs.

Even though its hard to contact my friends after school or my coaches for track or anyone for that matter, i dont really care because ive felt so much happier and reliant on myself. Just allow yourself to be bored. Its really not that big of a deal. Whenever i ride the bus to school, the first thing i notice is that 95% of the people on the bus are on their phones. its a really odd sight when youre the one observing that and not actually part of the image

When we went into town 45 mins away you could get some texts out and make a couple calls. For the most part the entire time we knew we didnt have a phone and I'll tell you. That was the best summer of my life. I remember when my brother came up to me and said dude donald trump just became president and i was like really its already election time? • @OfficialPikadex
      @OfficialPikadex Před 7 lety +39

The quickest way is probably to cut yourself off from it completely. If you're really addicted, you'll probably be thinking about it and you'll experience symptoms of withdrawal, but if you can get through it, you should be fine to return to it, as long as you don't give into your urges. Keep in mind, however, that going back to your original patterns will probably reform the addiction.
Alternatively, you can gradually cut back spending less and less time until you're to a point where it isn't controlling you. It'll probably take longer than the former option, but withdrawal will at least be less severe, depending on how quickly you cut back.
I'm not an expert on this kind of thing, but I do believe that sticking with these will help you out.

No matter what I do to limit myself from it, I still seem to come right back to it and get sucked in. It really feels like a pulling or sucking you in kind of a feeling when I have that urge to check it. I hate smart phones, I always have even before I got one. I never wanted one. I'm a little bit different compared to most people, like for instance, if there is something popular, I usually will not go for that particular thing. It's like a red flag to me. They said that the average person spends 4.7 hours a day on their phone, even if you have the same posture while reading, it's the fact that you continue to have that posture while you're on your phone. Imagine reading for a few hours then adding 4.7 to that. We're are constantly hunched now a days. And chances are that one probably spends more amount of time than the 4.7 that he mentioned.

I agreed with this video. Nowadays, people use phones as a part of their body (me as well). I know that if we use the phone for a long time, it's not good for our body but I still use it anyway lol.

There was a very strange feature in this case, strange because of its extremely rare occurrence. This man had once been brought to the scaffold in company with several others, and had had the sentence of death by shooting passed upon him for some political crime. Twenty minutes later he had been reprieved and some other punishment substituted; but the interval between the two sentences, twenty minutes, or at least a quarter of an hour, had been passed in the certainty that within a few minutes he must die. I was very anxious to hear him speak of his impressions during that dreadful time, and I several times inquired of him as to what he thought and felt. He remembered everything with the most accurate and extraordinary distinctness, and declared that he would never forget a single iota of the experience. ‘About twenty paces from the scaffold, where he had stood to hear the sentence, were three posts, fixed in the ground, to which to fasten the criminals (of whom there were several). The first three criminals were taken to the posts, dressed in long white tunics, with white caps drawn over their faces, so that they could not see the rifles pointed at them. Then a group of soldiers took their stand opposite to each post. My friend was the eighth on the list, and therefore he would have been among the third lot to go up. A priest went about among them with a cross: and there was about five minutes of time left for him to live. ‘He said that those five minutes seemed to him to be a most interminable period, an enormous wealth of time; he seemed to be living, in these minutes, so many lives that there was no need as yet to think of that last moment, so that he made several arrangements, dividing up the time into portions-one for saying farewell to his companions, two minutes for that; then a couple more for thinking over his own life and career and all about himself; and another minute for a last look around. He remembered having divided his time like this quite well. While saying good- bye to his friends he recollected asking one of them some very usual everyday question, and being much interested in the answer. Then having bade farewell, he embarked upon those two minutes which he had allotted to looking into himself; he knew beforehand what he was going to think about. He wished to put it to himself as quickly and clearly as possible, that here was he, a living, thinking man, and that in three minutes he would be nobody; or if somebody or something, then what and where? He thought he would decide this question once
for all in these last three minutes. A little way off there stood a church, and its gilded spire glittered in the sun. He remembered staring stubbornly at this spire, and at the rays of light sparkling from it. He could not tear his eyes from these rays of light; he got the idea that these rays were his new nature, and that in three minutes he would become one of them, amalgamated somehow with them. ‘The repugnance to what must ensue almost immediately, and the uncertainty, were dreadful, he said; but worst of all was the idea, ‘What should I do if I were not to die now? What if I were to return to life again? What an eternity of days, and all mine! How I should grudge and count up every minute of it, so as to waste not a single instant!’ He said that this thought weighed so upon him and became such a terrible burden upon his brain that he could not bear it, and wished they would shoot him quickly and have done with it.’¹⁷
