@SharpPwner Marner also had Tavares on his line all season with 47 goals. And Matthews had much less help on his line. That shows Matthews is able to carry the load of a first line, Marner needs Tavares. I don't think Marner gets 68 assists without Tavares on his line. I also think Matthews has better projections, this is why nobody would be happy to pay Marner the same as Matthews. It's just facts. Marner deserves a pay day, but not the amount he is asking for. At least not with the Leafs.

Mitch Marner is NOT a team player. It’s evident in this fiasco. Part of the reason why the Penguins have a handful of Stanley Cups in recent years is because Crosby took a bit of a discount. You do what it takes to win. Some of these younger guys are divas, and Marner is one of them.

Had Dubas not mismanaged the Nylander negotiation this debacle would have been averted. Dubas is weak and ineffectual. Nylander's camp were clear victors last fall. Marner's advisors assuredly remember. Losing the negotiations with Nylander and Marner were not the biggest loss; losing firm negotiator Lou was the real loss.

Anything in the $11/per any season should be off the table.....7,8 and 9 on a three year deal..... and it's on the table for 24 hrs.... After that..... Swiss cheese......or sit.... But the next deal is 5 years at 6.5..... and then you see how he plays..... If crap.... I agree 100%. Most high paying jobs are based on performance. It could be something like 70% personal stats and 30% team performance team success. These guys typically renegotiate when they're doing well but who has ever come back and said hey I suck now let me give you some money back?

Offering $11 million in June was a huge mistake for Leafs management, and that goes for Marner or any player on this team. Marner is a great player, but I have a feeling his father has buttered him up to the point of insanity from the time he first ever picked up a hockey stick.
