    • @RoadtoFinnish
      @RoadtoFinnish  Před 3 lety +8

      Hey Acsah and thanks for the great questions! Unfortunately i cant say too much about living in Turku because ive only been there a few times. I do think (at least from a visitors perspective) that its a really nice city. Turku is one of the more beautiful cities in finland and i know that students do enjoy it there. Also, i do know that the university is really great and people who graduate from there have done really well for themselves.
      About student housing in Turku, there are a bunch of different options that the university of turku lays out on their website: www.utu.fi/en/study-at-utu/accepted-students/housing The number one choice for you should be the apartments from the Student Village Foundation of Turku (TYS): tys.fi/en/how-can-i-apply They are the most important student apartment provider in the turku region.
      About the cost of living. I actually have a previous video about the cost of living in finland as a student that i would recommend that you check out. That video is based on helsinki prices, but turku is not that far of from those numbers so it should give you a good benchmark: czcams.com/video/5MejDbyRbDc/video.html
      Also, since you area interested in studying and working in Finland, i would recommend that you consider joining our Discord server. Hi Oliver, hope u doin well, I got admission in university in city of Turku , but im a bit worried of finding job once Im in Finland bcz of pandemic situation. So what do you think will i be able to get a job at least as a courier in food delivery without knowing Finnish language?

    • @RoadtoFinnish
      @RoadtoFinnish  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey and im so sorry for the late response. Huge congrats on being admitted to Turku! That is absolutely awesome and im sure that you are going to enjoy your time at the university 🥂.
      About potential jobs. Its pretty hard for me to say anything here because this always depends on your ability to find relevant jobs and to learn how the Finnish job application process works. Food delivery jobs are excellent e.g. for students and i recommend that you check out Wolt which is the biggest food delivery company in Finland. wolt.com/en/couriers
      The situation with the pandemic is looking a bit better now and there are hopes that things are getting somewhat back to normal by the beginning of autumn. We are not going to be at a completely normal situation, but at least much better than last year. This would mean that a lot of part-time jobs that have been cancelled would be opened back again.
      Again, i cant promise anything here and my recommendation is always not to at least rely on getting a job in terms of paying for your living costs (especially in the beginning). This is because finding a part-time job as a new student here is going to take some time even without the pandemic.
      Btw, if you are interested, im currently planning a paid course for job hunting in Finland. The course is going to cover basically everything that you need in order to maximise your chances of getting a job and the goal is that taking the course will cut months from your job search process. The course is going to contain approximately 5 hours of material and its coming out during the summer. If you are interested, you can sign up for a waiting list and ill let you know when the course gets released so you can check it out: forms.gle/aGUeBH6jRzGRLWHDA

      Thanks for the positive feedback man, i do appreciate it! Hopefully this gave you some valuable information that you can use when you are in Finland 👊.
      So to your question, the tuition fees for civil engineering degrees depend on what university you are applying to + the level of degree that you are doing. Are you applying to study civil engineering at a bachelor's or master's level?

    Hi Oliver
    Sorry to bother you again.
    Is there something called 'restricted' or 'blocked' bank account in Finland? The country I live in does not allow opening bank account for under 18. In Germany international students are obligated to deposit sufficient money (food housing etc) in a blocked account valid for the period of study to get a student visa.
    If there is such kind of accounts it would help many students, particularly in my situation where the student will be 18 next September and cannot have a bank account here..
    Note: Finnish embassy requires bank account for student visa applicants
    Really appreciate your response

    • @RoadtoFinnish
      @RoadtoFinnish  Před 3 lety

      No worries. Keep the questions coming. Its the reason why this channel exists 👍.
      So im actually not sure whether we have anything like a block account in Finland because every time i read about this money issue, the Finnish immigration service states that you simply need to have the money on an account that is solely yours (controlled by you alone, and not e.g. by you and your parents). Another thing about these block accounts is that Finnish banks are super hesitant on creating accounts for internationals before they move physically to Finland. My understanding is that its pretty much impossible to get a bank account in Finland without being physically here. This has to do with the new banking regulations that the EU put on banks after the 2008 financial crisis. So all of this would refer to the fact that we do not have such blocked accounts in Finland - at least not as they are e.g. in Germany.
      HAVING SAID ALL OF THIS, please note that the Finnish immigration service does allow you to have a joint account where the account is also controlled by your guardian (e.g. your parents) if you are under 18 years old. Migri states the following on their website:
      _If you are under the age of 18 or an exchange student, the bank account can be a joint bank account that you share with your guardian. The bank statement must include a statement of your right to access the bank account._ Source: migri.fi/en/means-of-support
      In summary, you should be fine as long as you have a joint account that is shared by you and your guardians 👍
      I hope this helps.

    • @RoadtoFinnish

      So this is impossible for me to answer because this not only depends on your personal capability to work and study at the same time, but also on what field or level of degree you are interested in. According to my knowledge, there are no separate arrangements for people who are already in the work life.
      I would need to know what specialisation under the field of IT (IT is a super wide field and there are dozens of different career paths that you could take) you are interested in, what degree you are looking to do (a bachelor's, master's or a doctoral level degree or perhaps a MBA) and whether or not you are a citizen of a European Union or European Economic Area country. All of these have an impact on what i can say.

    • @RoadtoFinnish
      @RoadtoFinnish  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey Shyni and thanks for the question. In order to work as a nurse in Finland, you need to be certified by the National Supervisory Agency for Welfare and Health. This requires you to have a certified degree in nursing that is accepted by the Finnish government. In addition, all medical or health care professionals working in Finland must be able to speak well enough either Finnish or Swedish.
      Unfortunately this means that if you have a degree in nursing from another country, you will most likely not be able to work as a nurse in Finland with that degree. This is because of local regulation and laws.
      You can find more information about this topic on this website: www.nurses.fi/nursing_and_nurse_education_in_f/working-as-a-nurse-in-finland/

    • @RoadtoFinnish
      @RoadtoFinnish  Před 3 lety

      Hey Ram. I answered this question in another video. However, i will copy and paste the same answer here in case someone else is also interested in the topic.
      In Finland taxes are paid directly out of your salary. This is done by your employer. How this works in practice is as follows:
      1. When you are hired to a new job, you need to make yourself a tax card through the Finnish tax administrations. This is done online and its really easy. In order to get a tax card, you need to have an estimate of your total income for the entire year. At this point you can also mark some of the tax deductions that you already know that you are allowed to do. When you are done, you will be issued a tax card that has your income tax percentage market into it.
      2. You send the tax card to your employer who deducts taxes, pensions, social security payments etc.. from your gross salary.
      3. They pay you your net salary on your account.
      If you have multiple employers, you need to deliver the same tax card to all of them. You can only have one tax card at a time. The tax card can and should be updated every time your expected income drops or increases significantly based on your job situation. If your estimates are off and you pay too little or too much taxes, the tax administration will either require you to pay the missing taxes or they will pay you the excess taxes at a later date.

      So you cant get a permanent residency in Finland before you have already worked here for x amount of years (i dont remember the exact amount of time out of the top of my head). Also, in order to apply for a residence permit in the first place, you need to first find a company that would be willing to hire you. Only after that can you apply for a residence permit to work. @RoadtoFinnish  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey Hussain and thanks for the great question! Also sorry for the late response, i totally missed your question. Anyways, there are plenty of good options to do a masters in accounting and business administration. However, i do want to note that if you do a masters degree, you would absolutely not work as an accountant in Finland.
      That would be way too low for a masters graduate. Instead, typical job titles include, for example, Chief Financial Officer, Business Controller, Financial Analyst, Auditor and Business Consultant.
      The same goes to if you do a masters in finance. Career-wise, the working environment in finance is very broad: potential employers vary from investment and commercial banks to management consultancies, and from brokerage and mutual fund companies to insurance and venture capital firms.
      I would recommend that you check out Aalto university and its masters programmes in both subjects. Aalto university is the #1 ranking university in Finland and masters graduates from Aalto university school of business have excellent career prospects not only in Finland, but also internationally.
      Check out the programmes here:

    Salary for waiter?
    Provide some good agency information where I can contact for work permit please

    • @RoadtoFinnish
      @RoadtoFinnish  Před 3 lety

      Salaries for waiters would naturally depend on the restaurant and on your educational background. In Finland waiters working especially in higher end-restaurants have a vocational degree in culinary studies. Plus, you need to have certain licenses to be able to handle food in Finland. These can be applied for and received rather easily but you still need them.
      Work permits need to be applied for personally and while you might be able to get some help with this from some kind of a agency specialising in hospitality and restaurant business, you still need to apply for a residence permit to work in Finland from the Finnish Immigration Service: migri.fi/en/working-in-finland Also please note that you have to already have a job offer on the table before you can apply for a residence permit for work. You can read more through the link above.

    Hi, the app is ok but unfortunately not so much options available for jobs type . I am a welder but I cant find information I am looking for. For salary range etc. and in Finland is it normal if we talk about net salary to the company or the company will give us gross salary and we have to calculate by our self the net will be ?

    • @RoadtoFinnish
      @RoadtoFinnish  Před 3 lety

      Hey Erick and thanks for the feedback and the great question. So yeah, this is one of the downsides of the app. The app is currently mostly focused on jobs that require a bachelor's or master's degree. They are expanding all the time but they do not yet cover all possible career options available.
      To your question, in Finland we always talk about gross salaries. This is because your employer will not be able to know how much taxes to deduct from your gross salary before you give them your tax card (btw yes, in Finland income taxes are deducted directly from your salary so and this is done automatically by your employer). Your tax card is something that you apply for from the tax administration (done online in a few minutes) by giving them your estimation for your entire years income in addition to potential deductions that you already know you will use. This card is then provided to your employer after you have been hired, but before your first payday.
      Another note about salaries. In Finland we almost always talk about salaries in terms of hourly wages. The only times you might see a salary as a monthly salary is usually on international job boards but if you check out any job ads on Finnish job sites, the wage is almost definitely going to be announced as an hourly wage. Since a normal work week in Finland is 40 hours (8 hours per day), you can use 160 as your multiplier to get your monthly gross salary (8hours*5days*4weeks).
      Did this answer your question?

      @RoadtoFinnish  Před 3 lety

      Cant say for sure. Never used that website before. If you want to make sure that you are in the right direction, please use the tax calculator from the Finnish tax administration. Its not 100% accurate but its the official tool for making estimates: www.vero.fi/en/individuals/tax-cards-and-tax-returns/tax_card/tax-percentage-calculator/
      About the salaries. Instead of trying to guess what kind of a salary you might be paid, i encourage you to be honest and ask about it. For example, when the interviewer asks you whether you have any questions, this is a great topic to ask about.

    Hey Oliver, I am from Kolkata, India. I am currently doing masters in hospital administration ( which is basically back office jobs or management jobs for hospitals).
    I have checked MeetFrank but there is no option for medical jobs or medical administration jobs.
    If you could, please would you help me out here?

    • @RoadtoFinnish
      @RoadtoFinnish  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey Sannidh and thanks for the question. Unfortunately im of no use here. The medical field in Finland (as is in Europe in general) is heavily regulated and i have not looked into the field and the different career opportunities enough to comment on this. My recommendation is that you reach out to the Finnish Medical Association via email and ask them whether they could give you some pointers or explain how the Finnish medical field functions. If you write to them, i would recommend you to be as brief and as to the point as possible. This will increase the chances that they will get back to you. You can find their contact information from the footer of this website: www.laakariliitto.fi/en/
      Oh and as a small cultural pointer, when you write an email to a Finnish person, there is no need to formally address anyone as sir or mam. Ive noticed that this is rather common for people from India when they reach out to me and i just wanted to bring this up. We Finns like to keep things rather casual and as a fun fact, the Finnish language doesnt even have words for sir or mam. We usually just address each other with our first names.

      You can use the app to look for jobs in Finland no matter where you are from. The app doesnt help you find a job per say, its simply a way for companies to post about jobs that you can then apply for.

      @@RoadtoFinnish is it possible for me to get a residence permit if I am a self employed willing to move to Finland?

    • @RoadtoFinnish
      @RoadtoFinnish  Před 3 lety

      In theory yes but these kinds of applications are always processed on a case-by-case basis. As a general rule of thumb, getting a residence permit in Finland as an entrepreneur who does not have prior ties or business in Finland is very hard and the process can take a long time. Please refer to the finnish immigration service for more details: migri.fi/en/working-in-finland

      @RoadtoFinnish  Před 3 lety

      I have a video about the cost of living in Finland as an international student that you can watch here: czcams.com/video/5MejDbyRbDc/video.html
      Do note that sharing apartments is very rare in Finland. This naturally depends on the type of apartment, e.g. there are plenty of shared student apartments available, but all of these apartments have individual rooms for each tenant. It is not commoon and in most cases not even allowed to share a single room with multiple people (unless you are spouses) and even if you would do this, you would have to sign separate tenant agreements.

      Im sorry but you have to be quite a bit more precise. Requirements for what? Also, i would like to note that the importance of years in terms of experience does not matter that much because the amount of years that someone has experience doesnt tell anything anymore. A person with 1 year of professional experience might just as well be better at what they do than a person with 5 years of experience. My tip is that if and when you apply for jobs in Finland, you have to emphasise your professional skills and showcase your ability to get results.
      But yeah, you need to be way more precise with your question.
