I only knew Howard briefly and sat talking at lunchtime with him at work about motorbikes just a few weeks ago. One of the nicest people you could ever wish to meet, with charisma to match.
I remember first hearing Howard when I was only 16 and getting into the guitar. So sad to hear he has passed. The man was a real gem to listen to. Very talented.
Worked with howard when he signed to parlophone i sitll have a three track cassette of straight to you , learning to fly and wild river, just three amazing songs they still make me sing out loud in the car i was shocked to hear the tragic news he was a really good guy and a talent that was only really just starting to develop fully ,
onsnick - thank you for the detail. I'm gutted. I'll tell my wife now who was also a big fan. Battlefield who I believe was written by Nick Lowe was a superb song, superby sung by Howard. It will forever live as a cherished part of my collection.. RIP Howard and many many sympathies and thoughts to his family. Thank you once again.
Why the hell didn't this chart in the UK? Because perhaps at the time, most of the music available was shite and Howard New wasn't appreciated. Still a brilliant song and still a brilliant singer. Where is he now? I believe this track was written originally by Nick Lowe. Anyone confirm this?
Just saw Jane again...you are amazing...keep rocking in Heaven Howard, we all miss you! xx
Missing you Uncle H.
Life will never be the same and we are always thinking of you. xxxx

The others you can see on MTV,...
What news? Has Howard New passed away? Someone please verify and give details. If true I'm absolutely gutted.
I always thought Howard wrote this, but I think it was a Nick Lowe / Paul Carrack number !
Thursday Morning.
