  • Step by step on how to rebuild a fuel petcock for a Suzuki SV650. This should be similar for most other petcocks as well.

    Very helpful video. Mine was so gunked up that it wouldn’t open. I cleaned up and it worked but I ordered a similar rebuild kit from eBay that same day. K L supply was the brand. I ran back to your video to double check on the rebuild. Let’s hope I won’t have to again! Cheers yall

    Indeed it is similar to the Suzuki GSX-R 600 SRAD petcock. Thanks for the video, very helpful!

    First of all, thanks for the video. Currently getting one getting going that's been sitting for 8 years. Lots of rebuild videos to go... What tires are these? They look killer. Do you like them performance-wise?

    How do you take those fuel lines off the petcock without fuel pouring out???

    You never answered the most important question - what is the blue gunk sealant that you put on the tank before inserting the new petcock?

    • @Benji...
      @Benji...  Před rokem

      Any blue on there is just old paint :)

      Oooh, you're right now that I take a second look. I see that there are new petcocks all the way from $ 25 to $ 65. I figured the cheaper ones were made in China so I specifically went for the petcock made in Japan. I took the old petcock apart but couldn't see anything wrong except the "dial" is hard to turn. My problem was getting gas filling up my oil sump. I'm not sure if the petcock was bad or the float bowl needle valves were worn or if I left the dial in the "Prime" position too long. I notice on my GR650 that those needle valves don't have a rubber/nylon tip. It is just metal on metal. I was going to take the airbox out but found a new made in Japan foam filter that stretches over the metal frame in the airbox. The old foam had long ago crumbled into dust and lay on the bottom of the airbox. So many projects.

    1st gen SV here. I'm somewhat new to carbs and fuel stuff in general, what can happen when your fuel petcock has issues? I'm having this issue where gas is heavily leaking from my exhaust system. My dad says I flooded it. And no I do not wheelie but I do ride a bunch. I'm worried it's something more internal. Also it's been running very rich since I bought it, the exhaust would pop during idle.

      I'm not too sure it could be a few things. It might be worth trying the fuel petcock, I've heard that a faulty one can cause too much fuel to flood the carbs and you end up with fuel in your oil as well so sounds like it could be your issue

      @@Benji... Alright yeah I've been doing a bunch of reading and a lot of ppl are talking about that petcock, I've actually also replaced that before but if it's really just that, it's simple and cheap. I was worried my piston rings are going out because this issue makes it run like a 300cc I can barely stay over 50mph! Also when this issue started, white smoke would go thru the exhaust. I also hope I didn't flood it or something. It'll run but barely and just bleeds gas. Thank you for the reply!

      Are you sure both cylinders are firing? If you’re not getting spark in one of them it would cause those problems

    • @LosTacticalTaco
      @LosTacticalTaco Před 2 lety

      @@Benji... Oh really? I've had that before already, but it wasn't causing it to do this, of course I changed both and made sure they were torqued to spec. But yeah I'll check those later on when I get home, gotta do about 8hrs of driving today lol
