    I put nearly 30,000km on my Ninja 300 with the same exact engine - constantly revving it to max RPM and of course using the full rev range when riding to get the most power. I did many 3-5 hour rides, over 500km mostly on highway too.
    I did valve clearance myself at 25,000km and it was just 0.01mm out of spec on the exhaust valves. What I mean to say is it's a fantastic and very reliable and well-engineered motor that can be revved to the max and kept at high RPMs when riding at highway speeds without any long-term problems.

    Excellent video, thank you. I reached 173 km/h on three different occasions two days ago that I test rode it here in Greece.
    Very interesting motorbike with perfect suspension, and not only for it's price. I rode a very twisty section that I do very often on my KTM Adv 990 and I pretty much matched the feeling on the corners without any fear and anxiety. I had it for 1 hour and rode close to 70km. I really think to order it to replace my 300cc daily scooter as the Versys has a vast field of use, even 2up touring for a few days.

    • @MotoSnax
      @MotoSnax  Před 7 lety +2

      Did you reach 173km/h on a flat road or down hill? 300cc scooters are nice too, even with a passenger. The Versys-X 300 is agile, but over here it lacks a bit torque. But considering the engine is just 296cc's, I am not allowed to complain about torque. ;)

    • @stamK.
      @stamK. Před 7 lety +5

      Amersfoort81 i did the test again at the same road/direction with my SYM Citycom scooter. My normal top speed is 150 on the clock and that point I got 155 so it's a bit downhill. So I believe that 168 should be a flat top speed for the Versys. Despite this, I really liked the acceleration of the Versys 300 and the "endless" rpms available.
      The issue with my scooter is mainly a physical one, as I am 2m tall and the handlebars sit very low for me. After 77000km in 6 years the doctor said that I have created almost permanent damage to my back and spine.

      sorry for the late reply. That is sad news, permanent damage. The Versys-X is good for tall people. I am 1.80m and I can just reach the ground with my feet. You don't see that much with small displacement bikes. Finding the right bike when you are around 2 meters tall is tough. Most of the time people end up on allroads.

    Thank you for sharing those images from this bike. I am a Kawasaki fan and a proud owner of the 2010 Ninja 250. It is a really tough bike and also really fun but as expected not the best one for a passenger.
    As some guys in the comments, I am from Brazil and I can barely wait for this Versys 300. This could join the low cc crossover market with Yamaha Tenere 250. Definitely 2 cilinders are smoother than a single one.
    It is a shame bikes always gets overpriced in Brazil. Just as a comparison, it may cost something around R$ 23k (our local money). It is USD 7k! Really a shame.

      We don't have the Tenere 250 over here, but I'm sure that wouldn't sell. The Netherlands is a country of many cc's. The more, the better most people think. The Versys 300 will be a better bike than the Tenere 250. Over here it also costs about USD 7k, but I think the average monthly income in Brazil is lower than in The Netherlands thus making it more expensive for someone living in Brazil. On the other hand I don't know what it costs to live in Brazil, compared to The Netherlands. :)

      If you live in the mountains you'd rather want torque than high top speed. It can do 70mph easily and I don't think torque will be a problem when going uphill (or up a mountain :) ) and keep it at a higher rev. So you should have no problems in the Appalachian mountains, but you have figured that out yourself already. :P

      You can ride almost any motorcycle offroad for some definition of offroad. I had a Honda FT500 Ascot some years ago, definitely not an offroad bike, probably around the same amount of power and weight, that I took a lot of places it probably shouldn't have gone such as dirt roads to get to a favorite fishing spot. As long as you avoid deep sand, deep mud, and big rocks, and just stick to two-track fishing roads and such, you'll be fine on anything reasonably lightweight. That said, this is not the bike I would choose if you are spending much time offroad, I'd probably go with a dual sport (not an adventure bike) for that. Many crunchy plastics and breakable bits on this one.

    I'm a pretty gentle rider, probably because I just got my endorsement in April of 2019, currently have a Suzuki LS650 a great bike, but if I want to go to my fishing hole, it kinda doesn't like it, I sat on a Versy 650, but nearly needed a step ladder, but getting on the 300 I could at least swing my leg over it. My only concern is the high rev engine and longevity, I test drove the BMW 310 GS and hated it, if the Versy is anything like the BMW I think I will pass.

    • @MotoSnax
      @MotoSnax  Před 4 lety +1

      The seat height of the X-300 is quite high too. But if you are used to the torque of a 650, a 300cc won't do it. You need more revs on the highway compared to a bike with a bigger displacement. The BMW 310 has less power and a twin cylinder responds differently. The X-300 really feels more powerful but the high revs is something you like or not.

    I’m trying to choose between this bike and a v-strom 650. The strom has more power and would be a more comfortable tourer, but 13k rpms and 47 kilos less sounds like a lot of fun. How would the versys be for long rides at ~135 kph?

    • @MotoSnax
      @MotoSnax  Před 3 lety

      They won't be fun unless you like long rides at high rpm. I'd suggest the 650.. has more torque (pulls faster in any situation). Also check out the Versys 650.

      @MotoSnax  Před 7 lety

      On the highway it is a bit high, yes. Changing the sprockets isn't a bad idea, I wouldn't ride that top speed every time and more torque is always welcome.

      I changed both sprockets and chain at about 9k miles (turns out the stock components are garbage) and found it to be a lot smoother and faster on the highway afterwards. Would have changed them right away had I known the amount of difference it would make.

    Hi pal! I´m an owner of a KLX 650 C1 (street version). I love it. But it´s 26 years old. And the spare parts here in Argentina are not too easy to get. So...if could save money, I was looking for some choices. What do you think? Is the Versys 300 a choice? I don´t make log trips, I use the bike at the street, go to work, etc. Has the Versys 300 that "momentum" when you speed up, for example in a corner with "yellow light", one of the lovely features of the KLX? Thanks in advance!

    • @MotoSnax
      @MotoSnax  Před 5 lety

      I don't know the quality of the roads in Argentina, so maybe a Versys 300 will be fine. What do you mean with yellow light? Do you mean when you are riding and the traffic light turns yellow/orange and you should probably stop, that you'd open the throttle on the KLX and you were still able to get past the traffic light before it turned red? The Versys-X 300 does not have the torque (the force of how it picks up speed) of a KLX650. So if you open the throttle, it needs to be in high rev to really speed up fast. You'd better pick the Versys 650 for that. But overall it is a fine bike in urban traffic and if you shift down and open the throttle, I'm sure most traffic lights won't be a problem. But it will never have the torque of a KLX. It is a shame that Kawasaki does not produce the KLX650 anymore. But here in Europe, single cylinder enduro/allroad bikes are not popular anymore. It is all dual sport and naked bikes nowadays. At least in my country it is.

    • @pabloinza232
      @pabloinza232 Před 5 lety

      @@MotoSnax First of all, than you for answering! Yes...that´s right...that´s what I mean with "yellow light". And as you say, the torque is the point I was talking about. I totally agree with you...it´s a shame that KLX 650 is out. It´s a pure blood, but with street features! Regarding the Versys 650, aside from "money issues", I´m a low rider, and becoming old :), so I think I have to start thinking on a Versys 300. Thanks a lot for your opinion. Regards!

      What does the tourer have? Over here we have the Adventure package. Maybe the same. Skid plate, hand protectors, side cases and sort of crash bars? Maybe to make it complete I'd go for that package. If you buy it separate, most of the times it costs you more money. The top speed is what you see in the video. Maybe others can make it go faster, BUT if there is a strong head wind, then it is hard to go over 145km/h or so.
