Thanks Andrew for another awesome video ❤
You're welcome, thanks for hanging out, yo!
Bravo man, nailed it again!
Thanks, Erivin! Was a fun shoe to test out in the wild!
That’s Incredibly Awesome! 🥂❤️✨
Agreed! These and Vibram's are my two favorite trail running shoes!
I do not always leave a comment, but I do value this Podcaster.
Thanks for all of your videos. They are helpful.
Aw thanks, Lisa. I appreciate your comments too! (:
Hi Andrew I found them a bit stiff I have just brought some luna sandals brilliant
Nice! Sandals will always be more flexible than barefoot shoes at the same thickness, although you do get more protection/security with a full enclosure vs straps. Enjoy!
thanks so much for all the vidoes/info you put out here! I've watched so many of them, I hate to ask you questions you've already answered -- but I'm wondering if you recommend if the primus trail knit or one of the vivos - maybe the decon with the fg2 sole for trails? I'm used to barefoot shoes - mostly wear just plain leather moccs or wildlings. but I haven't yet invested in a pair of hiking boots. For context, I mostly hike in ravines/forests.. so there's a bunch of mixed terrain (and live in the midwest so weather is all over the place). i'll hike, run, walk across trees/just play around out there, so looking for something pretty versatile. The forest esc would appear to be ideal, but I'm afraid it'll be way too intense for what I'm used to. but I'm not sure the other two would be waterproof enough or good through colder temps.. is there a model you'd recommend based on my ramblings? lol.
If you're looking for a do-everything trail shoe, the Primus Knit FG would be my pick. It's breathable enough for summer, but thick enough for winter, tough enough for firm ground, but decent on wet ground too, and feels more comfortable than non-knit Vivo's, plus it's super easy to slip on/off and has enough water resistance on the lower half of the shoe to get you through some muddy ground and wet grass. I do like the FG2 sole, but it skews more towards wet/soft ground and doesn't wear quite as well on rocks and pavement.
Great channel. Thank you. What’s your best all around barefoot road shoe? I do mostly walking and rucking on pavement and asphalt. I was looking at these but before I pull the trigger I would love your opinion. Thank you Andrew.
My favorite road shoes are the Primus Lite Knit for cross-training czcams.com/video/ydf1R2Z2KAY/video.html and the Sensus for casual. czcams.com/video/ARV_lCuxrco/video.html The Trail FG is ok for short road milage, but it's too thick to use as your main road shoe. You want something that's 3-4mm thick max, so that you can land/roll smoothly on a hard, uniform surface, like pavement.
Hey, would you have any preference between the traditional FG mesh upper and the knit, in terms of keeping the elements out? I appreciate that neither are advertised as waterproof/ resistant, I'm interested to know if there was much difference in keeping moisture out (wet grass?) and standing up against mud and dirt. Do you think the knit upper is less durable/ more likely to tear? Also, the Vivo website suggest taking a larger size in the traditional FG compared to the knit - have you noticed much difference in sizing? Thanks!
The Knit will keep more out, as it's a tighter weave. The Mesh has slightly better breathability and durability, although the latter doesn't really matter unless you're planning on running through a field of rose bush thorns or something, ha. The Knit's are slightly wider and a lot more comfortable and I prefer them overall.
@@AndrewFolts thank you. I went for the knit and love them!
Hi, thanks for the review. Would you recommend those ones over the PRIMUS TRAIL III ALL WEATHER FG for all year round trail running and some road running as well? I live in southern Norway, so it's never super warm nor very cold. Right now I'm using the inov8 rocklite which are not waterproof and in winter I wear a waterproof sock inside (I usually don't get warm feet or don't sweet much). As I have been using barefoot shoes for anything else, I want to replace those inov8 with a barefoot model. I use daily the magma leather fg and I love the sensation. I also like built in sock so I am kinda interested by the primus trail knit but I am wondering which one will be most suited between the knit and all weather version.
Yea, especially if you're using WP socks. The Knit's are more comfortable, IMO, and more breathable in summer, but still decently warm in winter if you layer properly.
@@AndrewFolts thanks for your reply 👍
any recommendations on minimal road running in rain and/or cold? I usually run with Altra Escalante / Racer and Injinji no show (normal or wool) but with rain and ~ 35 F I feel I need something else for those conditions
Vivo Primus Lite All Weather bit.ly/48BJEEx or Primal RunAmoc czcams.com/video/-e3j2_Zn8Lo/video.html if you need extra-wide.
Just got these and the crease digs into my toes. Do you think this will soften up?
I haven't had any issues with creasing on these, but sometimes it can happen if the bend in your toes is hitting at the wrong place. Does it feel like they're too long/short?
If you had to choose between the new trail FG 3.5 and primus lite 3.5, which is best for everyday and gym? I'm looking for versatility :)
For roads and gym the Primus Lite is much better. I'd go with the Knit, tho. czcams.com/video/ydf1R2Z2KAY/video.html If you plan on doing both trails and roads/gym, then the Trail Knit FG would be the better pick.
How much water protection do they woek in litel bit mud most rain
The bottom's and lower upper area have some good water resistance, but the tops will let in water if you go through deeper puddles or get strong rain coming down on the mesh. Def good for mud.
Well, any of their footwear; or do any of their footwear come in extra-wide, ?something like the Realfoot shoes or the Sofstar switchback boots primal?
Not yet, but supposedly they're working on a project called Biome where you'll be able to order 3D printed shoes in any width/shape, custom fit to your feet. vivobiome.vivobarefoot.com
That outstanding, that will be excellent to have those shoes/boots in a very ergonomic bio- mechanically fitted human foot shaped design.(anatomically oblique-spacious forefoot and toebox:) thanks for the info. I will stay abreast of that information.
I'm torn between these and the Primus trail II- I live in Colorado and am looking for a dry weather trail runner-Super dry here and have my winter hikers already covered. Which do you prefer?
The Knit's are more roomy and comfortable, IMO. The only time I'd go with the regular mesh Trail is if you live in a super hot climate where you need max breathability.
@@AndrewFolts Thanks for the quick response.
i wear a size 10 in normal shoes what should i order in barefoot ????
I'd order the 10, they run true to size. You can check the sizing templates to be sure. bit.ly/3y7h7Kr My feet are 10.5 in and I usually buy the 11, although I can sometimes fit into a 10.
Does the size fit the same as all weather?
Yea, I'm a 44 in both, although the Knit is a little wider, which I like.
Are these good for swimming?
No, they''re meant for dry or semi-wet land, but not swimming. You'd want the Vivo Hydra bit.ly/48Upt5P or Vibram V-NEOP czcams.com/video/LqZ6-sqT7HA/video.html for water activities.
Better than the trail FG?
Yea, I find the knit upper to be a lot more comfortable and better for multi-season use.
