  • How To Test A Cpu To See If It Works will depend if the motherboard is working or not. A faulty processor can cause your computer not to POST, but unless you can test with a different known working cpu on a known working motherboard, it can be a difficult troubleshoot.

Very interesting video akhi- I had a failure to post on a Dell MB and I think I may have made that dumb mistake, lol. In attempting to troubleshoot it I bent a few pins too! Bad day. I actually didnt notice the pins were bent, and tried to get the PC running, what I was wondering is, does this potentially damage the CPU? Thanks!

What I've heard is using a cutter (also known as snap off knife, like the Deli 2036) makes repairing bent pins a lot easier, since you can line the pins up much more easily.

Hi brother , I have a question related to the video.
If I use the ultra power saving mode on my mobile all the time ( which decreases the usage of CPU ) can the CPU die or malfunction because it's not used ? Is it better to just work the device normally or what's the deal?

Hi, I need some advise here. I have an old pc using GA-P35-DS3L(Rev2.0) motherboard and Dual-Core E5400 processor. Recently I tried to upgrade to Core 2 Duo E8400. I have updated the BIOS to latest version(F9) before changing the CPU. After the upgrade, BIOS and CMOS setting all works fine and I could see my motherboard detect the E8400 correctly. However my PC just can’t boot or even boot but randomly freeze on Windows Screen. I though the E8400 is defected so I changed to Core2 Duo E8600. Unfortunately same freezing issue happens. If I change back to E5400, it works perfectly. What could be the reason?

I bought a use crosshair v formula z motherboard put a brand new fx9590 cpu in it and i 8 gb corsair ddr3 2400 dominator platinum memory and a video ccard the old rx425 amd with 8 gb on board. I ordered a 8 pin plug form china HUGE MISTAKE all the top row is 12 volt and the 4 lower are negative. They sent one with one ground on the top and at the time I didn't think to check for that becuase i been building computers for years with no problems and I turned it on with a 650 wat psu and it started smoking so bad I could not see in the room it melted the wires together i did turn it off and unplug everything asap so my question is could my new cpu have survived that and the memory so I was hoping to find a way to test the cpu without causing damage to another motherboard. The cpu still looks brand new and I didn't see any smoke come from it but I know it only takes a small charge to kill a whole system. I want to by only want i need to fix the computer it was a new build but thats a lesson I will never forget. Anyone have any ideas. This was meant to be a poor mans gaming rig. The prices they have on the ryen line is crazy and whats really funny is a heard that windows is having trouble dealing with some many cores so its making the systems run slower.

I spilled water on my pc, last week or so on accident, of course, but after it spilled I turned it off and dried and spots I could with a rag and then turned the pc back on again, but then the motherboard caught on fire. I ordered a knew motherboard but it have bent pins, so I returmed that one, now I have a new motherboard that is the same model that caught on fire, I looked at the socket and all the pins are fine, but everytime I turn on the pc I get the CPU led that indicates an error, ive tried taking it out and putting it back in the socket countless times, ive also tried cleaning it, and ive even gone as far as to hook the motherboard up to a different power supply that I knew worked, because I thought maybe it wasnt getting the power it needed. Is my cpu just broken or what, because it didn't drop it or anything while it wasmt in my pc, what should it do? Is it safe to assume that the CPU is broken? Btw the motherboard I'm using is an msi b250m and the CPU is an i5 7600k quad core, 3.80ghz.

Had you not mention check the motherboard's compatibility with the actual processor should be checked, I would not have learned about the correlation with the chipset to the processor generation. I honestly did not know this! I just thought the socket has to match! I did not know the LGA 1151 socket had so many generation processors! Thank you again! Jazallah! As-salamu alaykum!

Thanks advance.

I can’t get my pc to show up at all on my tv. Swapped the gpu and same thing, one of the pins on the cpu was bent from the cooler pulling it out. I bent it back and reinstalled but same thing. Everything in the pc is turning on and the disk tray works and power button works so I don’t think it is the MB. Waiting on a new cpu but your thoughts would help.

Hi, when I start Cinebench2024 the cpu(i7 13700HX) immediately throttling, the fans are set up to max and the temperature hits 100C. The test runs for 10 minutes and the cpu clock speed is 3GHz(the cpu max frequency is 5GHz). The cpu score in cpu-monkey is 1371, but mine has 938. Also Intel XTU shows power limit throttling, the cpu is idle, and power limit and current/edp throttling at the same time while gaming. Do you think these problems can be fixed with replacing the motherboard, the laptop is under warranty. Thanks!

So I recently replaced my ram for faster clocked ram. When I turned on my pc I got no signal from my monitor, keyboard, and mouse even though It was plugged into a USB port/display port. My Pc seems to stay running, however. I thought maybe my ram was installed incorrectly or that it wasn’t in all the way and checked that. I turned off my pc and made sure everything was seated properly. I turned on the pc again and was still having the same issues. I also tried moving the ram to a different channel with no luck. I then decided to reinstall my old ram but when I booted up my pc nothing had changed. Everything seemed fine the first time when I installed the new ram, I was directed into the bios and I enabled the Xmp settings for the new ram. It was when I started booting to windows that I started having this problem. I tried resetting the bios and still nothing worked. My only guess is that somehow my cpu died when I tried to boot into windows after I installed the new ram. It makes no sense but that was the only conclusion I could come up with at the moment.

when we turn on the unit for the first time, the fans are not spinining even the cpu fan wont spin, but once we remove the video card the fans are spinning anf LED's are working, but still no display. does it mean that the video card is damage? and is this Gigabyte ga-a320m-s2h v2 model will need a video card to display? or it can use its vga port to display?
we also heard 2 or 3 short beeps i guess.
we also noticed that the pins from the power supply to video card connector is only 7 pins, but there are 8 pins on the video card.

My pc randomly cut out of power, I tried turning it back on multiple times and it kept turning on turning off instantly over and over so I unplugged it for few hours turned it back on, then it gave me bios screen I chose Asus boost and soon as I booted it's giving me black screen with solid white dash top left corner... I can't access bios because my keyboard isn't being recognized I tried multiple keyboards. I tried resetting cmos, unplugged rams, bios flashback... Still the same problem, I'm getting 00 code light on my motherboard which is a processor error... Any idea how to fix

Very well explained about the pin grid array and the difference between Intel and AMD. (and the rest!!!)
As you also mentioned, a bent pin on an AMD CPU (and they appear to be much more rigid) is much easier to repair than a bent pin on an Intel motherboard, but yes, it is possible to repair bent pins. It just takes a very steady hand.

What I've heard is using a cutter (also known as snap off knife, like the Deli 2036) makes it a lot easier, since you can line the pins up much more easily.

I know this is way after you posted, but really reaching for any help right now :) My computer stopped working a while ago. I did a little checking and I was pretty confident the motherboard was the problem. However, after switching the motherboard for a new one, I keep getting a CPU Debug LED. I triple checked CPU Power connector as well as making sure the CPU was connected. I am not able to buy another CPU just to check...if I buy one I want to be more confident it will light. I am simply asking for your opinion on the issue. If you don't reply, i totally understand and will keep doing my own search. Thanks a ton!

What if my system posts even after trying hard to get this motherboard to post and then after some time it crashes in windows 50-50 chances to crash?
    CPU- Core i3 6100
    MB - GA-H110M-s2
    SSD- Kingston A400
    Ram - Kingston 4gb DDR4 2400, Hyperx 8gb DDR4 2400
    GPU - Hd 7870
    Psu - CM MWE550 Bronze
Motherboard was not powering on earlier, light and fans used to turn up for a sec and nothing after one spin. After some time it was spinning continuously like no power to cpu but never post. And after some ram adjustment and replacing rams it did post and now I'm facing crashes and sometimes the same no post but posts after turning on in sometime

The only original part is the CPU but it is almost impossible that this could happen but it is.

Hi I have a laptop Toshiba satellite l655-s5060. I've changed the harddrive thinking that it was bad but the laptop still does the same. What it does is when I give it a shut down the Toshiba logo comes on but it doesn't boot. I remove the hard drive and try again the logo comes on then goes away. The same thing happens when the hard drive is installed. When that happens I push f12 to see if I get a response but nothing same thing happens when I push f2 .can it be the processor. And if yes what's the best processor for this laptop. Thank you for your amazing work and videos.

Hey I really need help please man. Yesterday I overclocked my CPU like usual with AMD Ryzen Master ( Ryzen 3 2200G ). I seted up the clock speed to 3.75 ghz with 1.4 volt. I applied the settings and then the oc shit down to apply. However, when it was trying to boot up, nothing happens : it would turn on a few seconds and then turn off. Also, none of the peripherals would receive any power or get powered on. I'm stuck with a pc not even booting that I build 5 mounts ago. I tried different things : remove ram, install it in a different way, remove graphics card and try to boot off of the integrated graphics, disconnect the drives and even remove the CMOS battery to try to reset bios. None of these tricks worked and the pc still does not turn on. Please help me :(

If you are confident that your individual test were conclusive, then yes you should test the CPU, at this point its a whole different computer already. Would you mind braking down how you did each test, i.e why did you decide to change he above components?
