As an aside, have you all ever done a scenario with Electronic Warfare included? I seem to remember the US has the EA-18 Growler to counter enemy defenses/radars. Don't the Russians have a similar airframe to counter the Patriot and other SAM sites? Maybe I missed it in one of the videos on the channel? Please let me know, I would like to find out, much appreciated.

I was on the last load team for the RAF loading cluster bombs to harriers. We loaded them to the hilt in Davis monthan AFB and they dropped them all on 1 tank at the end of a canyon. They looked so sexy lol
The US is only supplying 155mm canon fired cluster munitions. NOT air dropped cluster bombs.
Yes. US is sending DPICM artillery shells only. Ukraine has asked for Rockeye cluster bombs also, but only so they can remove the bomblets for use as drone dropped munitions, and as far as I know the US hasn't sent those.
What would be useless anyway, since those jets get shot down all the time and there isn't much left to send in from NATO.

i have an idea, you can add a mystery sam or radar. it would be pretty realistic that an unknown asset wasn't detected.

Had the Patriot worked correctly, I think all the airframes would have been recovered, although Super Cap would have had to pull a super road landing due to the fuel situation!! Damn good flying Grim Reapers!!! Hats off to Simba for that crazy ass missile dodge!!!

Hey cap, love the vids. In particular, I really love the big naval battles, like the US & UK vs China and Russia. I am aware you did that one somewhat recently with the new stuff that was added, and I don’t think there has been any outcome changing things implemented since then, but there were some changes, like the UK ships’ sams, and other things i can’t think of off the top of my head. Maybe a slightly smaller naval battle focused on the UK and someone else? I’m not exactly sure, but if i think of an exact idea i’ll let you know. Until then if you had one you were planning already I can’t wait to see it! Thanks for reading 😂

An extraordinarily successful mission! Well done, GR!
No-one crashed on take-off. No-one collided with a tree or power line, or did a CFIT. The HARMs took out the Pantsir, and no-one got shot by the S400. The Tors didn't even get a shot off. The CBUs did a terrifyingly good job of destroying the majority of the tank column. And no-one got shot down by the Su-35s until they caught Cap inside the alleged Patriot SAM net.

I'm also torn about what is the most beautiful sight in DCS. Huge carpet/ripple bomb or massive cbu strike. Both are glorious sights, indeed.
Worth mentioning that Ukraine also has not signed the Cluster bomb ban. So between the two it's completely legal.
And of course Russia used them too.
@singlespeedpunk7744 But Ukraine is in the weird position to use it on their home territory. So if they win, they themselves have to deal with the random undocumented explosives (unlike documented mine fields). I heard that on average around 6% of them don't explode.
Then again, having mines on your land is probably still better than having russians there.
@@5Andysalive tbf, they've got loads of mines on their fields from both their own army and Russia anyway, so a few more unexploded bomblets isn't really making things that much worse. Plus they can be pretty effective at clearing mine fields, from what I've heard.
It's not an ideal situation, but war hardly ever is.

It is a really nice addition for us viewers to keep track of effectiveness and effective "boom boom" I hope you will try to keep that one in your vids in the future.
Not to be a big killjoy on your scenario but US is only sending artillery cluster munitions, not air delivered bombs.
Actually the opposite of a killjoy; rockeyes can have pretty high failure rates compared to DPICM.
An artillery scenario would also be nice, but I think as one said here this munition is perhaps intended for trench warfare attrition. The Russian have build up to 3 layers of trenches so it will take a lot of artillery shell to do the same job as cluster ammunition.

Re controversy: Most of Europe/the West are breaking the law they voluntarily signed up to by continuing to support Ukraine militarily in ANY way. The text of the convention against cluster munitions is clear... "Each State Party undertakes never under any circumstances to: ... (a) Use cluster munitions (b) [produce/transfer/stockpile/etc CM's] **AND** (c) Assist, encourage or induce anyone to engage in any activity prohibited to a State Party under this Convention." - So yeah just a minor wee point that everyone on earth seems to have forgotten about. Almost all of us are breaking the law.

Cap there is a huge difference between cbu99/100 rockeyes, and CBU 97 SFW. The bomblets in CBU97 are essentially heatseaking and will search for targets to attack in their cone of vision, while rockeyes are just dumb unguided bomblets which are far less effective. Not only are rockeye bomblets far more prone to failure, but they also contain 1/5 of the explosive mass of the CBU97's bomblets meaning they have far less penetration and generally will do less damage on target.
@@readhistory2023You've got it backwards, but yes, Rockeyes are used for soft targets and SFW's are used for armor. SFW's are much more expensive though so I don't expect we'll ever send any to Ukraine.
@@92HazelMochaus has been silently decreasing its sticks of cluster munitions over recent years. And arrive could be close to EOL, so sending them works be most reasonable.
@@BoraHorzaGobuchulI mean in my opinion that's why we *shouldn't* send them. The closer they get to EOL the higher the dud rate which ultimately will hurt Ukrainian citizens in the long run. I know this is going to be a hot take, but I'd rather we spend the money to send them brand new state of the art kit than stuff that might not be effective.
I just read that Ukraine asked for the Rockeye so they could dismantle them and use the bomblet's with commercial drones dropping them individually. That kind of makes good sense, though some of the CBU-97's would certainly put a hurt on armor formations if they could get aircraft to deliver them and a new and improved version was just adopted which might make some of the current stock available.
Just so you know, Ukraine will probably dismantle these bombs and use the cluster munitions individually with drones to bomb trenches. Cluster bombs have a high dud rate due to them knocking into each other and are also useless against trench systems anyway, and Ukrainians have a much higher success rate using drones with single munitions.

Those Ukraine scenarios are incredibly intense-thanks a lot for all your hard work! I had an idea for how you might suppress any enemy MANPADS which might be present very close to the front line. Could some PzH2000 howitzers preventively shell the area where your flightpath crosses the front line in order to knock out any possible MANPADS? The challenge for the pilots would be a) timing (crossing the ”breach“ not too early/not too late) and b) making sure that they fly exactly over the area where the shells came down.

Those cluster strikes are not anti tank though - and the Banderites use cluster ammunition since 2014, that's nothing new.

Yup, 155mm cluster bombs do NOT destroy tanks
ukraine did not get such an anti-tank version that can be launched from an airplane, only a 155mm artillery version, which is not effective against tanks. It can be used against people and weakly armored vehicles. The bigger problem is that if the Ukrainians get banned weapons, the Russians will feel empowered and will be more daring to use cluster and thermobaric weapons, or even phosphorus or tactical nuclear weapons.

not giving CBUs. They have given ukraine 155 mm DPICM shells. Ukraine have asked for MK-20 Rockeyes but they haven't been given.
I don't think the Russians have deployed Pantsir-SM yet just Pantsir-S1 both are good systems but SM has much better radars.
Could you do a video on Lrasm being fired from himars. Raytheon has been working on the idea for Australia for almost a year now. Curious how it would do attacking something like sevastopol.

Great video, I just wonder if there's a way to significantly reduce the turning speed of the T-90s. As soon as the first bombs hit they suddenly had F1 race car level turning lol. Seemed a bit unrealistic. Put differently, with more realistic (ie slower) reaction time and tank speed/turning, I'm guessing a lot more would have been hit and destroyed in the first wave of bombs.
The Patriot is the only SAM I don't fear in game. They're shit. Yes, good against straight flying, constant speed ballistic missiles that plod along on a predictable path, but that's it. Against a maneuvering target they're so easy to beat. All the Russian SAMs scare me. The more modern, the more lethal.

Don’t forget to include the civilian casualties (mainly kids) caused in the decades afterward. That’s what ~80% of these cluster munitions achieve.

One comment and observation on your introduction and map: FLOT Is actually Forward Line Own Troops, opposite a FLET - Forward Line Enemy Troops, they don't necessarily meet (or you'd have a contact everywhere, outdated but obvious examples are the trenches of WW1 separated by a No-Man's Land) they just indicate where your own (or the enemys) most forward troops are located.
It doesn't make sense to me that the most forward troops on the russian side would be Air Defenses, (while they should be kept fairly forward, having them in front of your tank-column seems like a bad move from a ground-perspective) and that western-most one is according to the map pretty much overrun by Blue Forces while the northern-most one isn't far behind. Granted my experience lies with Artillery, not Air Defences so maybe that is normal, although it seems very risky to me?

Soviet design tanks are pretty resistant to cluster bombs without special anti-armor shaped charges. Thicker top and side armor helps a lot. In reality most of the tanks would survive all those small detonations.
As a Russian, I seriously doubt that it would be so rosy [for the armor] IRL.
Luckily for you CBU-97s contain special anti armour EFP warheads that target the engine deck. It’ll cripple a column.

Those bomblets are armor penetrating in the same way anti tank rockets and ATGMs are, but from the top. If they hit non-fake reactive armor, the first bomblet to hit that cell will be neutralized.
@@BoraHorzaGobuchul This depends not on how Russian or not you are, but on the type of the charge. Top attacking armor piercing ammunition would work on any tank. Especially with more than one charge, to remove reactive armor first. So if those are a shaped charges, the simulation is pretty accurate (despite TORs not moving with tanks, because they are designed to fire on the move exactly for such situations).

I'm still not convinced that the Ukrainians will use the cluster munitions as cluster munitions. The bomblets inside are perfect to be carried by drones.
They will. Ammunition for drone drops is plentiful. 155 mm artillery shells is what they are lacking. I don't see them spending time dismantling 155 mm shells for the bomblets when they are screaming for 155 shells in general.

They use cluster ammunition since 2014, also petal mines - the mainly fire at civilians with both, though.

I do wonder if being that it was 5 to 2 all oncoming in a 5 degree firing arc, if the fire control simply was too concerned with Own Goal. If I was watching a flight of 7 planes at mach 1.3, in a tiny sliver, would I trust the missiles to keep track?
Except this has no relevance to reality, they are sending DPICM in the from of 155mm rounds and possibly M26 rockets. The controversy around that is that according to data presented to the US congress, the dud rate of these in Iraq was between 14 to 23 percent (which means about 100 unexploded bomblets per rocket). Which means Ukraine will be littered with unexploded munitions for decades to come, just like former Yugoslavia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Iraq and Afghanistan still are.
Worse still - the fields of Ukraine are mostly farmland used to grow grain that quite literally feed the world. Unexploded ordinance, of which there is already no shortage of, will render large areas unusable until demining can be done.
Given how slow demining is, it might take decades to clear the fields. Smaller munitions are exponentially harder to find and clear, which means they are more likely to be missed.
The benefits of these munitions are questionable at best given the type of combat we see. We also heard that they will be supplied from an older stock, which means this is primarily US selling weapons at a profit that they would otherwise make a loss on. And yes, it is for profit. US does NOT send aid to Ukraine, all shipments are under a lend-lease agreement, which means Ukraine OWES WITH INTEREST for everything they get. US didnt send a single bullet before Ukraine signed the agreement. Ukraine's debt to US is already like twice their pre-war GDP.

An interesting related war game could be Ukrainian MiG-29 and/or future F-16 helping take out Russian attack helicopters and whatever related defense they’d have. Supposedly Russian attack helicopters are a problem for Ukraine on the front line.

They use cluster bombs since 2014 - against civilains mainly. Was even on CNN at that time, when they got no instruction yet that Nazis are good again.
More likely Russia will put its own munitions to good use to be honest.

No, not at all. This simulation got nothing to do with reality.
And they got close to zero success with that stuff. They mainly blindly fire at civil targets and sell this as success. Sometimes they get intel from their emperor USA about some ammunition depot, one of thousands and manage to strike it, but that's no great success, especially not when you lose half a dozen depots and more per day yourself.

Ukraine have got stock piled cluster bombs. They couldn't really use them but because the US said they was going to give them some to use. It's freed them to use them without been persecuted for using them.
I'd like to see this with F-16 and some offensive missiles in case of contact with the Russian planes

Eeek, hate to be a wet blanket, but according to CNN, the cluster munitions being supplied from the USA to Ukraine are M864 and M483A1 155mm artillery shells, not plane-dropped bombs.
