      Hoarders for me are the worst, there are more of them than people know. The old "my place isn't usually like this", followed by whatever excuse they feel will justify the situation. Your place is always like this, stop trying to explain it away. I don't care.

    We get a freeze up about every year or two. We could fix the problem "permanently", or until the new unit gets a leak, for $6k USD. However, a house call and a bit of added Freon right now is under $200, call it an easy choice. I don't like leaking a bit of Freon into the air, but as a retired person with limited assets I can afford $200 every year or two a lot better than six grand all at once - with only small guarantee it won't leak pretty soon after.

    So you separated the red wire and the reversing valve shifted to heat and you pulled what off the board at condenser? I don't know what the transfer grill is for ? It didn't look like the bottom of unit was open or had a second filter? Confused on that one. So you charged it wonder how long before the gas will be out again and freeze up, not long with alot of hot air. Great video but had a few question on what was mentioned above. Thank you.

      I separated the orange wire to make it shift. And the Y wire goes through a pressure switch before it gets to the board. That’s what I pulled off and put on the Contactor

      To keep the low pressure switch from kicking it off til the ice melts then charge. Have another question on Rheem hp the plug that goes to the reversing valve silinoide I need a new one cant find part # or supplier that has one. Just need the plug. Any idea part number or if you can get plug? Thank you.

    I have a question.... I have a mobile home and I have had the AC guys out here three times this year alone. I have wood floors and the duct work is in the floor. The issue is that the AC is putting out so much moisture that the floors are swelling around those floor ducts. I have three large units pulling moisture out of the air running 24/7 which are filling each in five hours or less. I am at the end of my rope with this. Can't wait for winter as things will start to get better then. This started last summer and it is an older unit but someone has to know what the heck is wrong and what needs to be done to fix the problem. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

    • @HVACGUY
      @HVACGUY  Před rokem +7

      One of the jobs of an AC is to remove moisture…that’s why it has a drain. If the drain is clogged or not draining a mobile home system can fill with water - water in the ducts under the floor. If that’s not happening you need to make sure the space between the boots and the floor are sealed. If the warm air underneath meets cold air it’ll cause condensation around the registers. Just a coup,e of things a homeowner can look at himself.

      @@HVACGUY no water in the vents. Im sorry are the boots the vents where they connect to the house? It's draining water out the line and the pan doesn't have water in it. But how would I check the drain to see if it were clogged? To make sure the boots? are sealed would I put more silver tape around them?

    For future references you can use a pump up sprayer and hot water to melt ice whole lot faster than leaving the customer like you did.

    • @billymccoy9155
      @billymccoy9155 Před rokem +1

      Pump on sprayer doesn't get the ice on the lines set in the wall that is frozen. That needs to thaw also.

    • @acrservicesmathewr7565
      @acrservicesmathewr7565 Před rokem

      That's why it's important for the customer to shut down the unit when they notice it's not working. They crank it down and expect it to work better. If it's mild outdoor temps then coming back is the best option but if it's commercial building or older people with health problems then yes do what u gotta to get it going.

    What is the main reason that evaporator coils leak?

    • @chrisgray3147
      @chrisgray3147 Před rokem

      Condensation in the pan over years. Will cause rust on the coil, then the metal of the frame of the coil. And the aluminum of the fins start to rust. Moisture is an Evaporator's worst enemy.

    I was under the impression that heat pumps were required to have strip heat temperature lock-out. In other words the ambient outdoor temperature would have to be low enough to close a thermal/thermostat switch in order for W2 aux heat. Except for defrost operation.

    • @HVACGUY
      @HVACGUY  Před rokem +1

      Some do, but I’ve only seen them wired for that to happen when it goes through defrost.

    • @Frodomitus
      @Frodomitus Před rokem

      They will for dual fuel heat pump set ups most of the time. It may be a regional thing where you're from but here(metro Atlanta, GA) I rarely see temp lock outs for heat strips.

    If it's against the law to evacuate refrigerant into the atmosphere, Is it illegal to add refrigerant to a system known to leak?

    • @joep4143
      @joep4143 Před rokem +4

      No! Not in residential units. Not by federal law unless state laws prohibit it. By EPA rules, you can charge equipment with a known leak as long as it contains less than 50 pounds of refrigerant. All residential units and most commercial roof tops can be recharged although they leak. Common sense would tell you to fix the leak if you can find it. It makes sense to not keep pouring $150/lb refrigerant in a leaking system

    • @billymccoy9155
      @billymccoy9155 Před rokem

      @@joep4143 Actually it is illegal if it leaks a certain % per year. Commercial can leak quite a bit worse before it's illegal, beat up a homeowner that isn't doing anywhere near the same amout, that's government.

    • @joep4143
      @joep4143 Před rokem +2

      @@billymccoy9155 I thought that if it’s under 50 pounds there was no law prohibiting it. Either way, if I go to a customers house, I would not know the rate of leak. If I return the following year, I could learn how much it leaked. But that leak gets worse so technically the law is unenforceable. I witnessed a tech accidentally open a bottle of refrigerant in his van and it leaked out 1/2 of the tank before he discovered it when he returned to the van. He would not be liable because the law states intentionally releasing refrigerant. Law means nothing in real world. I helped a company once that forgot their recovery machine and they couldn’t pump it down due to bad compressor. They put a towel around their hoses and released it. I don’t condone it nor would I do this but the law is unenforceable because no one is following tech around.

    • @billymccoy9155
      @billymccoy9155 Před rokem

      @@joep4143 Not saying the law makes sense, it doesn't. There is actually a reward for turning people in with no reward money ever allocated to pay out. If you come across a unit that has lost half it's charge, and the customer just wants it recharged, no repair, you know it is a foregone conclusion. It happens. Normally I just refuse the work if I know it's a waste.

    • @joeburner7120
      @joeburner7120 Před rokem +1

      @@billymccoy9155 I agree with you. If a unit is out a few pounds and the customer is new and wants to pay me $175/ lb “ to make through the season”, I’m doing it. As long as she signs off knowing she has a leak and it will leak out again. I just don’t consider it an ultimate sin to charge a unit. If I get called back again and the system is flat or needs considerable amounts of refrigerant, I will then also refuse to charge it and quote repair or new system.
