  • Residents want them. Cities can’t build them fast enough. But some folks living next to a pickleball court in Tooele County say it’s a nightmare.

I find it verrrrrrry hard to believe that no one expressed concern prior. It's truly amazing that anyone would support a sport like this that creates so many problems for others.

Build pickle ball courts next to those board members homes!

They built a 4 court pickleball facility in our neighborhood 2 years ago literally behind the back fences of a bunch of houses in our neighborhood. My wife thought I was overblowing the pickleball noise stories that are out there until she met someone that just moved a few months ago from one of those houses to further back in the neighborhood where we live. They literally moved to get away from the noise and said it was the best thing they have ever done. The husband worked from home and couldn't focus from all the loud pinging. They couldn't sit in their backyard without piercing noises. My opinion is that all pickleball courts within a couple hundred feet of homes should have noise walls to keep as much of the noise in the court area as possible. That loud ping ping from 4 courts IS NOT the dull thud of one tennis court with a ball being hit less frequently. NOT EVEN CLOSE! Luckily we only very slightly hear the noise in our backyard in the winter when there aren't leaves on trees and you get the tunneling effect from the cold air.

It's tennis on a badminton sized court with solid surface paddles used to hit a wiffle ball. It's been around since the 1960's but only popularized in the last 4-5 years. Easier to learn and arguably more socialized fun than any other racquet sport but I can understand why neighboring houses would be concerned about the noise.

This is why you don't buy a home or build one next to a park, any utilities, power, gas, phone, schools, roads, highways, city or government properties. Just cause your other side of the fence is a park common sense tells you that it will have noise and can change any time. People. Yes I image that the noise can be out of control but your the one that decided to live next to it. That's like saying I moved next door to a airport or airforce base and complain about the jet noise.

Bad analogy. The gentleman in the video built his house FIRST. Then they put courts right behind it. That's on that committee, not him. If the road is there first and you decide to build next to it, that's on YOU. The road was there first.

@Robyn890 the son received a misdemeanor. KSL/Deseret news of course never reported on the story. The circumstances surrounding the bullying were pretty appalling… the bully was making racist comments about the ethnicity of their teacher. The bully was proud and further posted and bragged about the assault footage. KSL did a recent “spotlight” on the Kirk/Wimmer family… search results before that were of the bullying.. now it’s these dumb KSL pieces. Her Facebook comments from around this time were pretty entertaining… the gift card story for example. Thanks for the initial question.
