    Possible reasons for thermal cam causing internet disconnect is IP address conflict. The cam probably has the same IP as your router / modem

      @TechyBen Před 3 lety +5

      You would also be amazed at what devices can do putting noise down the neutral/earth lines if there is a fault. XD
      Oh, but more likely it is a protocol/ip/flood rate conflicts and stuff if it's only when he opens the software.

    • @Digital-Dan
      @Digital-Dan Před 3 lety +7

      More likely thermal cam initially creates its own Wifi network and your computer connects to it. Hopefully this is only an initial connection deal and you can use the temp connection to the cam to connect it to your regular network. Presumably it does not create its own choice of IP address on your network, but uses DHCP.

    I was in a best buy yesterday, and some poor sod was there with like a 2019 macbook air and the backlight had went out.
    Geek squad said $600, and he said well shit, might as well get a new pc.
    I told him about you, and he said he was looking into getting it fixxed, but he had to get a new one because there was a paper on it that was due within a week.
    So he's going to keep it, and eventually get it repaired, so he'll have two MacBooks in the end.

    I dont know what settings you can change but you got to make sure if the camera gets a unique ip adress from your router / DHCP server.

    When I did RMA diagnosis on internet switching boards we sometimes ran into "WTF" issues, where the software and multimeters were not finding the issue. The solution was to uninstall the removable memory and over-volt the board by about 50% and wait for the smoke to escape. About 80% of the time is was a data switching chip that had grown solder whiskers inside and it literally popped out of it's black casing. The rest of the time it was a BGA, and we put those suckers at the bottom of the solder tech's pile.

If you have 2 network adapters, use one for internet. Some tools may check if there is wifi or ethernet and use the ethernet port.

    You know I've seen issues where when a ISP detects malicious software connecting to a relay server over your connection they'll just revoke internet access to that IP, now when this happens more than just the 1 machine loses internet but that's on personal networks not a business one, could it be the thermal camera software is connecting to a remote server for updates and your ISP just thinks it looks shady? 1 way to test is setup a VPN, start the thermal camera up and see what happens.

    LOL, I decide to support American made by buying a PACE soldering station (ADS200). Its a very very nice station. I'd even go so far as to say its the best soldering station that I've used in the past 30 years of electronics repair and prototyping. BUT... Its just over a year old now, about 1-1/2 months past warranty, and the LED display has decided to fail intermittently, the station still works, but looking at the weird numbers or just some random LED segments lit, is very disappointing. Now instead of working on my electronics projects, I have to reverse engineer and then fix the American tools. I think I'd still recommend the PACE soldering station, hoping that others will have a better experience than I've had, and it does seem to be price competitive with the Hakko, especially the tips. Good luck and happy soldering. :-)

    About that camera, maybe you can try some generic IP Cam client, instead of the problematic one?
    If it borks your net again you narrowed the cause to the Cam itself. If not you got a working solution.

    If I had been unemployed, I would definitely spend time working on updating the wiki. Unfortunately, my work pace is so slow, so it would not fit into my current schedule, divided between going to work during office hours and spending some of my free time contributing on GitHub. The best of luck to all of you others for any form of contributing, that is one of the great things about the internet.

      @@rossmanngroup A lot of your board repair videos you get too into the weeds for most of us, and for me at least it causes me to skip many of them. I think what Jackal may be referring to is something more along the line of "board repair for babies"--either a series of videos or maybe even just throwing in more context in why particular problems you encounter would lead you to resolving it the way you do or even just a sentence or two on terminology. The more we can understand your craft the easier it is for us follow the nuance. A lot of us like you personally and would watch more of these videos, but we don't understand what is happening or why so it's hard to stay focused. But hell you're the dude with 1.4 million subscribers and I'm some asshole in the comments, but those are my thoughts. Either way keep on keeping on my dude because we appreciate you, your independence, and your activism

  • @ravenbarsrepairs5594

    The camera issue is probably because the camera links to the computer via its own (wifi) network, set up by the software. Your computer likely only has 1 network connection. A way around that would be to ad a second network card(USB dongle should work fine), so you could have 2 network connections at the same time.

    People, IP address allocation, network devices are fixed/static IP address. Eay to set IP allocated through DHCP. Camera should be allocated fixed/static IP address through DHCP, all laptops or workstations should be dynamically assigned so may change. All systems are DHCP assignd other than the Router for eas of operation and management. If you do this, you can change networks and never have to change any system manually.

    American products suck, that's the problem. I can understand it having to be more expensive because we can't compete with China on price. Fine. But the quality should be JUST AS GOOD or better than the Chinese stuff. If it costs 2-3x more, it damn well better be at least as good of a product that is just as modern. Not just repackaged shit that's been sitting around since the 1970's.

    To your thermal camera problem, just check your IP address, because there might be ip conflict with that. So at the time of conflict both devices will try to connect the dhcp server to obtain the IP address.
