Awesome Video
I think mitten squad might know of a controller remapping program that you could use. Let me check. Edit: yeah it’s called x360ce and it allows you to remap any controller.
Love the tmobile add lol
Have you ever actually stopped the skeletons from fighting?
I really appreciate the massive amount of "Grunkles".
O hi matt
And now you're a grunkle. Lest you refuse and be forced to become an uncle grandpa.
Grunkle McMunkle
Matt im pretty sure im older than you but now im calling you a grunkle lmfao
@@JimmyIDUB Oh hi doggie..
I’m happy that the intro segment is now officially called “Hey I’m Derek, it’s me Derek!”
Nah, needs an additional uncle in there and its perfect)
now, which guy is Derek? it's always so unclear. I wish the video would specify!
really wish he would stop saying it.
@@Poolzclosed why, it's iconic
@@your_ex_stacy i like the substance of this channel, not the style
thanks again for having me on Derek and Grace! love your work and I now need to go blow some money on a plastic skateboard and a copy of Shred!
Oh man i knew that australian tony hawk, love your videos btw
Funny gba man
I was really excited to hear your voice pop up here! I knew it was you instantly, Aus Tony Hawk
Dude seeing you crossover has been something i wanted for a long time now
Love your videos!!
UNCLE TONY SPOKE THE TRUTH
Nitro Hap.
This just proves Uncle Derek can find joy in LITERALLY ANY gaming peripheral.
Especially the Rez Trance Vibrator.
Not gonna lie. I thought the T mobile thing was a weird stylistic choice Derek made til he said something
Ha! Came down to the comments just to find someone who had the same experience I did. Totally thought they added it to TV commercials or something until he said it's the in-game cutscenes.
same
I actually wouldn’t mind a DJ Hero episode
I really liked it tbh. But I also got it for 5 bucks, so it's hard to be disappointed at that price xD.
BTW: An episode about the Fender Squier midi guitar controller for Rock Band 3 would be nice. The ambitious first of it's kind that barely worked and got immediately obsolete once Rock Smith released soon after. That's basically the definition of punching weight xD!
Still got one. Would give it to Derek but shipping costs would be kinda insane.
it was a fun game
@@theshinken i had a friend in high-school that let me borrow his for q bit, I wasn't good enough with it to know how bad it was, it seemed to work pretty well and was enjoyable.
EDIT: Forgot context. I'm talking about the RB3 guitar, not DJ Hero.
I got my DJ Hero set for free so maybe that clouds my judgment, but I loved those games.
DJ Hero's music choices and mashups are legit bangers
You’re right, Derek! This controller does have a bunch of apped potential!
love getting apped with my friends
@@StopSkeletonsFromFighting LOL! Didn’t expect a response. Only about 7 minutes in, but I’m already loving this video, just like your others. Just what I needed today! Keep up the good work, guys!
I'm just waiting for a Tony Hawk visual novel where he tries to reassure himself that he is himself and not a man that thinks that he's Tony Hawk. Meanwhile the people he encounters always treat him like he's the latter rather than the former.
Tbf he hasn't really done anything looks wise to stand out from the crowd
"Are you Tony Hawk?"
"Yes"
"Why?"
" it was the mid naughty aughties"
Yep, thank-you uncle Derek, I'm claiming that one XD
You can't fool me!
That's not Australian Tony Hawk.
That's noted Java fan, minimme!
He is also noted Tony Hawk fan too
You mean Disney Pixar's Cars fan, minimme?

Whatever the fuck you call him, it's still minimme
Y'know, I remember playing this game at my cousin's house years ago, and I was always confused about people saying it controlled poorly.
This video finally explains why - my cousin had Shred, and it was a fun time.
Shred actually was a lot of fun to play. Ride was janky as hell, Shred functioned a little better, but still had issues
I feel so bad for Tony Hawk endorsing this, he had a lot of faith in it and he is passionate with the game series itself. No joke he’s a master at the games too, he streamed before! My theiry is he play tested and was just being nice because the management rushed them to release!
I like to think some code got screwy with the release version in the final update and forgot to check everything
Sometimes you update do nothing different and everything screws up
I seem to remember Jeff Gerstmann saying at some point that they had prototypes at e3 one year that were a lot better than what shipped. Maybe the board was too expensive for Activision to produce so they dumbed down the board?
@@AntediluvianInternetEntity That actually sounds believable, and Shred improved on it because it was adapted for the lower spec board. Except, didn’t it start as just a Wiimote attached to a board? I guess it could’ve got super complex then got dumbed down again. The Power Glove and Wiimote itself had similar problems, the power glove was super sensitive and effect but cost 20k to produce so it had to be completely redesigned to be way cheaper and that’s what killed it, and the Wiimote had a bunch of features removed to make it cheaper, and the Wiimote Plus was basically a slight upgrade over the original Wiimote specs before it got cut down, that’s why in E3 presentations and development videos you can see people doing things that you would need a Wiimote Plus for.
@@AntediluvianInternetEntity I was just thinking the same thing!
Me and my siblings had skate city heroes when we were kids. We thought that shit was hilarious.
There's a segment where you have to drive robot drones into workers at a factory, and the workers let out this insane stream of gibberish and run away. It made me laugh so hard every time.
We need someone to play Marvel VS Capcom 2 with one so they can actually take you for a Ride®
It's the most advanced skating controller in the universe. Can you execute a spinning bird kick with it?
@@devonwilliams5738 yes, definitely, absolutely
@@cosmicdoodles2992 Can you *consistently* execute a spinning bird kick with it?
@@devonwilliams5738 no, but you *_can_* cry while trying
@@cosmicdoodles2992 How do you get worse than the ride board? The Power Glove? The Genesis Activator?
I love that I was sitting here in the beginning thinking "wow he is really committed to the extreme joke by putting all these videos in a sidekick frame" then found out that was the game LOL
It seems like Derek moving his arms around near the board turned the Ride board into an oddly shaped Kinect controller. That was really interesting and entertaining to watch.
Gotta admit: "IS THIS WHAT YOUR SOUL LOOKS LIKE, TONY???" made me giggle.
“Tried it with the lights off” - Had me laughing really loud
Minimme's feet are just two Tony Hawk Ride Boards
6:10 LED lights can cause major interference. A lot of them are so cheaply that they don't have a filter circuitry (causes a lot of noise).
This is usually more of a problem with devices directly connected to a power outlet and not with battery powered ones.
It is called the noisefloor in radio, and the lower. The better the radio does reception and transmission. Tends to be a major concern with regards to installing a CB, GMRS, MURS, or a ham radio in a car. The alternator and battery throw a ton of free energy around. Something any wireless device must be concerned with btw.
Would the issue have been the IR sensors on the board controller? I have a lamp in my home that provides enough IR to reliably control a Wii Remote cursor if I point at it, similar to the candles people use.
I love that you threw in Hal Sparks as a reference to early-to-mid 2000s pop culture.
+1 for Uncle Derek
Who?
@@JoshuaJacobs83 He hosted Talk Soup in the early 00s.
@@princesstamika Not familiar with that either but thank you
Heres hoping Uncle Derek one day covers the 360 fishing rod controller, cause that thing is surprisingly usable on a ton of stuff.
I love his enthusiasm, deep within he still is the happy videogame nerd, I love the show Uncle Derek 👍
Derek reviewed Shred without mentioning the infamous cutscenes and dated presentation/story. Maybe he was a little too awestruck that the game actually works.
What's up with the cutscenes? Never heard of it
Now I wanna know too
same ere
me too!
I got this as my only Christmas present one year and while I’m still very grateful to my mum for managing to get it… my god that was a bad Christmas. If I ever meet Tony Hawk, I’m going to be having words.
I got this for Christmas also, around the time it came out. I was young and hyped. And then played it like twice and forgot it, it just didn't do it for me.
I still feel bad that it was bought and not really used, but I guess I spared myself the frustration it came with.
"I did alot more than just ride; I went DEEP."
The editing and writing on this one is seriously one of your best episodes yet.
Yea, I avoided this like the plague back when it came out. We were so traumatized by TH Ride that we didn't give TH Shred a look. I'm glad THPS 1+2 was made, at least that brought back some dignity to the franchise.
I came across one of these in my cousin's place and I was so eager to play it, because motion controls were new to me at the time, but I was so scared that I'd break it under my weight (not that I was obese or anything, that's just how careful I am with others's belongings).
This is really fascinating, it’s clear Tony really believed in this tech but it’s a shame it didn’t work out with Ride but it’s good that it worked out for Shred. Apparently prototypes of Ride at E3 worked way better than the final version, so maybe they had to dumb down the board and didn’t have time to modify the game to improve it, and that’s why Tony said it worked really well, he had used the prototype boards.
*me at **19:16**, realizing there's still a third of the video experimenting with this thing*
Derek & Grace, you absolute maniacs, I love you
Thank you Derek for doing the work nobody else wanted or needed to do x
24:32 - I predict an increase in price for Ride boards, and it will directly correlate with this video's view count. It will be like the Techmoan effect. The Punching-Weight Effect, perhaps?
Derek made a video about Faceball and now it's impossible to find i tell ya
WATA graded boxed Ride boards

Love hearing the Mystical Ninja music in this. Such an underrated soundtrack
Absolutely, one of my all time favs
Upvote just because someone else recognized it. Aw yes.
I remember my parents got this for me for Christmas for my Wii. Ripped open the packaging. Tried for 2 hours to get it to work but it couldn't get calibrated. Couldn't return it because I completely demolished the box. I think it's still in some closet all these years later.
Much love to Australian Tony Hawk. What a legend.
I'd really like you to hunt down and explore the legendary Steel Battalion cockpit controller - there's gotta be some fun stuff you can do with that, right?
i looked at the thumbnail and i SCREAMED i said OH MY GOD I LOVE THAT CONTROLLER and just THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR IMPROVING MY LIFE. i actually have one of the red ones i found in a dumpster in my neighborhood. (:
Never underestimate the power of a good rage nap. That was hilarious.
I love watching this man explain to me the dumbest video game shit. It’s so entertaining.
And I love doing it!
When ever a friend asks me who my favorite CZcams is . Uncle Derek is the top of the list. I always get happy when I see a vedio pop up and I stop and watch em. Thank you uncle Derek
"3.50, that's a gallon of gas I'll never get back" Shoutout from the $5 a gallon club!
I did not anticipate a war would break out 6 months later!
Shout outs from the $6 a gallon here in Cali!
The love and passion for gaming from this channel is always so refreshing.
Colors Live for Switch just launched with this weird ass SonarPen with a rigid plastic circle on the tip that bends to match the angle you're touching the screen.
I need to see how far it's possible to get in like Bayonetta 2 with touch controls or in L.A. Noire with it, hell, maybe a stylus actually makes some games better.
SonarPens use the audio from the headphone jack to give the pen pressure sensitivity. It only works with supported apps. Without that, it’s just like any other stylus.
Inserting the "Do A Kickflip" video segments while trying to do the flick trick was hilarious! lol
Great episode! And even with a rare on camera appearance of producer Grace!
21:03 I love how your still of Phil Fish makes him look like he's saying "I'm not saying it was Aliens...."
This was the deep dive into the Tony Hawk Ride Board that I never knew I needed. It's crazy that Atari 2600 had the board controller thing down with the Amiga Joyboard released for it in 1982. Anyway, this video really made me nostalgic for my T-Mobile Sidekick, especially the LX. Keyboards peaked with the Sidekick line of phones.
scxcr completed both games and I was impressed, now Derek is bringing us extra silly uses for the boards.
Your pups are just huggable!
This welcome surprise is peak Derek, and I love it! From that Nord VPN ad and love of the weird, to the research and benefit of the doubt for our Bird Lord and Saviour...
But now... we need a DJ Hero episode!
Keep up the wonderful work you glorious legends!
I hope you cover Tomba at some point, I’m always reminded of my childhood whenever you use the music!
Love that game and not enough people talk about it. I'm actually trying to find an iso of it online so I can play it in an emulator. Too bad my stepdad got rid of all my games :(.
21:04 if you hope Phil Fish doesn’t get mad…he gets mad.
As a kid, I had Shred for the Wii and defo had fun with it, so its nice to finally see someone that agrees (kindaaa). Even back then, my friends looked at me weird when I asked them to try it.
You looked very rad the whole vid Derek B-)

1:26 - Uncle Derek!!! Don't ride the Birdman! He's in his 60s!!!!!
Hey it me
This made me laugh out loud hard a few times, loved it!
love how you get fun out of even... THIS!
Wow, with Shred actually working I can imagine a VR skateboarding game using this skateboard controller.
Had Ride and shred for Ps3 and me, we loved Shred, especially the snowboard mode, we played in turns and it was a lot of fun for my and the boys for a year or so, it deserved better.
I remember my roommate at the time pre-ordered this for 360 and was so excited about it. At that time we both skated about 20 hours a week or so after work so we were quite familiar with skateboarding in general and I had been heavily involved with it since high school with a number of my close friends going onto pro status including Pj Ladd. That being said, I think we used it for around two days and than it was never touched again. For setting up for kickflips or 360 flips it would have been more logical to put your left (or right if you ride goofy) a little over halfway up the board and apply a bit of pressure like your popping the board and flicking it with your left foot like you would for an actual kick flip. It could have been utilized for heel flips, 360 flips, etc. Before I played it I assumed that’s the method they would have used
Bro honestly you deserve more subs, your content makes me laugh and its all well made, keep it up
as someone who just got into skateboarding as an adult, I love this
You deserve so much more success bro. Your videos are always just pure fun.
I have been waiting for this!!! So excite
I’ve been hearing about this video for so long on the podcast, glad the video is finally out. I really enjoyed it!,🛹☠️
The amount of effort you go to is incredible. Another fantastic video!
This is a great episode!!!! Chef’s kiss!!!
This is one of the best youtube videos i've ever seen here on youtube ♡
No matter what else is going on, "HEY I'M DEREK IT'S ME DEREK" puts a big ol' smile on my face.
Awesome content and vibes, as always 😁
I watched this at work (today is a slow work day), and it was a BLAST! Thanks man 🙏🏼
Eyyy, my GameStop photo made it into the video @ 0:10. Long live the memory of store 6259, RIP. Thanks Grace & Derek for adding it last minute!
Great vid Derek and grace!
That Sonic meets Tony Hawk game actually looks pretty fun to
I ran into a few of these at Goodwill and other local thrift stores, but every time they were over $30. The last one I saw was $100 with a copy of Ride taped on top. 2 months ago.
My favourite channel to watch, hands down
Wow I just found your channel and I love how you make videos and it feels so genuine and real definitely gonna subscribe
Shuan White Snowboarding on the WII balance board was also an excellent thing .

Glad I'm not the only one who enjoyed Shred, people think I'm crazy when I say that

Awesome video, great editing too 👏
Excellent use of the board and green screen, getting some Jeff Gerstmann's Pro Skater energy from that Punching Weight title card. Great work as always.

Andy on a THPS Ride video? Dreams do come true
I had this when it came out and spent 5 hours with customer service trying to get someone to help and they told me "try old batteries." And it worked every time as long as the batteries were slightly used but never fresh out of the package.
The reiterate, the calibration worked fine. The board never worked at all...
Mr Hummus is now officially part of the SSFF cinematic universe
Oh my GOD I thought the t mobile videos were you and Grace doing some cheeky editing to make it feel totally 2000s..it SHIPPED WITH THAT?? I love it
Cool video! Really digging the jungle track in the background from 14:00 to 15:00!
I love laying in bed watching your videos before going to bed! :D you're awesome
Awesome to see Producer Grace in front of the camera! Nice board high five
One of the few guys who can get me to watch a topic I don't care about, yet completely love what he has to say about it, and laugh my balls off! :D
I will never have more hate in my heart for one man than I do for Phil Fish
For the first nine minutes of this video, I thought Uncle Derek was being snarky by throwing a T-Mobile Sidekick border up around the tutorial videos. Hey, look! The Naughties!
