I am from udaipur. I had voted for gourav vallabh from udaipur constituency. It didn't feel that bad when he lost but now it feels like a kick in the nuts. I will never forgive him. It was not expected from such a distinguished person. He is such an opportunistic and shameless politician

I have a friend who comes from a family of doctors. Her family owns their own hospital. Dad's an orthopaedic surgeon and mum's an anaesthetist. Uncles, aunts, cousins, everyone is in medicine.
You'd expect such people to be bastions of science and rationality, atleast in medicine and biology which is their field of expertise. Yet, they're just as religiously blind and socially irresponsible as those unqualified uncles and aunties on WhatsApp who send you nonsense like milk with salt will kill you, eat turmeric to cure everything from common cold to cancer, eat ghee to lubricate your joints, don't eat during an eclipse kind of bullshit.
You'd expect a formally trained doctor to not be vulnerable to propaganda & misinformation. You'd assume that they'll be the last people to expose their children to unscientific systems like ayurveda, chinese medicine, homeopathy, humors, elements, vital force etc and won't fall for the quacks who practice them.
Unfortunately, they are powerful, wealthy brahmins who are based in a region that has a large population of Lingayats and lower caste Hindus. The arrogance that comes from that creme de la creme Brahmin identity and the insecurity that comes from their political, social and cultural hegemony being challenged and questioned, apparently trumps all education, all training and all rational sense.
So of course, the mum is going to body shame her daughter and ask her to lose weight so she can look good for whatever guy she'll get her married to. And to do that she needs to stop eating chicken because chicken makes you fat, apparently. Sexist and an idiot. She might have picked up her chicken makes you fat nonsense from some quack, but she forgot all her responsibility to her education and her profession, and immediately accepted it as true because it aligned with her religious beliefs. It also allowed her to feel that her ancestors and her community who villify non-vegetarians had been vindicated.
There's so many more occasions when they keep recommending her daughter useless ayurvedic and herbal bullshit when she's sick and also subscribe to ridiculous ideas such as natural is always good and "chemicals are evil". This is the section of society I like to call the "Sadhguru cult".
They're stuck in the struggle that many educated people were stuck in during Renaissance and Enlightenment Age.
As humans were moving towards empiricism and the scientific methods, making new discoveries that flew in the face of religion, many staunchly religious people couldn't deny the reality anymore because their education forced them to look at it. But they also couldn't let go of their religion and religious conservatism, not only because they were still caught in the thrall or fear of the cult, but also because the religious influence is what kept society and various social classes where they wanted them so they didn't want to damage it, no matter what.
So, they started doing Christian apologism and trying to convince people that science and religion are not in conflict, everything science found was told in the Bible already, it's all up to our interpretation.
That's what our religious educated class has been and still is doing. They're using what little they have learnt to pick up a couple of statements from research papers out of context and then twist, manipulate and dress up some random pseudo-scientific practice as having been validated by proper science. They fool themselves and everyone else who looks up to them as a source of authority on medical science or whatever other field they have expertise in.
So, it's not a surprise that people like Gaurav Vallabh would be willing to ignore and supress what their education will lead them to feel about how bad BJP has been for India and will be if it continues to be in power. Instead, Congress taking up the cause of Caste census, affirmative action and a more representative democracy on all levels will appear like a bigger threat to him.
