We should note that around 2 weeks before this video was filmed the hard drive that was already in this mac died. That is why the thumbnail says we are bringing a mac back to life.
Remember : Although these iMacs will accept up to a 2 GB SO-DIMM in each of the two memory slots, the iMac will only support 3 GB total memory. If you want to maximize the amount of SDRAM in your computer, install a 2 GB SO-DIMM in one slot and a 1 GB SO-DIMM in the other. . . If you do install a 2 GB SO-DIMM in both the bottom and top memory slots of the computer, the About This Mac window and Apple System Profiler will both show that you have 4 GB of SDRAM installed. However, Activity Monitor and other similar applications will reveal that only 3 GB of SDRAM has been addressed for use by the computer.
Can I replace both the superdrive and the harddrive with SSDs and then just use a USB stick to install linux or do I need macos to install linux? Mine is the early 2006 mac with a core2 intel cpu... no duo... the dvd drive on mine is dead and the harddrive is ... not well... I have a caddy to allow an SSD to take the place of a dvd
Thanks for the video! I´m having trouble putting the mount back onto the whole Mac. I feel the hinges at the top are not allowing it to close all the way, any suggestions?
Techackin Yes, sorry the front white part of the iMac. On the reverse side of the white mount it has two hinges on the top corners, I can't seem to get them to latch and close it, I've already broken another screen due to it
I would try putting on the front part of the iMac on without the screen in the computer that way you can figure out why the hinges will not latch without breaking another screen on the computer. I wish I could help you more than this but we did not have this problem while we were putting the iMac back together after the ssd install
i have this on pc . it runs well isn't it . but with the browser for internet :???? we have a big problem ..... I USE iCAB ..... have another idea?? thanks !!!!
@@techackin833 Does it really helps to increase the speed of the system, in this particular situation? I mean the installation of the SSD. And another question: does the late 2006 iMac really supports 4 gigs of RAM? Too many rumors about it. Some people says it supports only 3gigs max. Thanks for the answer in advance, guys.

My white iMac does not have those clips you are trying to release. Its the 27” white iMac. It just hinges up from the front and comes off.
Simple vido but awesome instructions👍
Do you need an special adapter? Also I wonder how did you preinstalled the OS to the ssd
You don't need a special adapter. SSDs use Sata and a regular power cord.
Now Why would you select that Name? SMFDH
It's because he's a proud graycist
Will the ssd and ram upgrade help for internet related functions?

How fast is the imac? I have one same, but i dont know if is a good idea to spend some money to upgrade it. There are some diference?
There is an extreme difference, it made the iMac so much faster
Thanks. I put a ssd to my imac of 2006 20" 2,4ghz, and wow, only with 2gb ram is faster than my Macbook white 2010 2,4ghz with ssd.
alexsa122 Awesome!
It feels a lot snappier because applications load faster
+alexsa122 Sorry for the late reply, the iMac was so much faster with the SSD. It was actually faster than my parents 2011 i5 iMac.
