- In this video, C. Vision Productions takes you to St. Paul, Minnesota in the late 1990s and early 2000s to view railroad action at Dayton's Bluff. Below the bluff is Hoffman Avenue, a busy railroad hotspot where Canadian Pacific, BNSF, and Union Pacific tracks come together. In addition, trains of the I&M Rail Link, Twin Cities & Western, Minnesota Commercial and Amtrak are also seen passing through this important junction. This location is known for its diversity of trains, scenery, and the fabulous St. Paul skyline that makes this capital city so unique. This program will also take you to other key locations in St. Paul. Come along to Short Line Hill, where a TC&W transfer negotiates the grade. We’ll also view trains at Westminster, Robert Street Lift Bridge, St. Anthony, and Minnesota Commercial’s Midway Yard. SD40-2s, SD60s, and SD60Ms ruled the rails during this time, and you’ll see plenty of these locomotives throughout the video. Thanks for watching. Wow! Brand new BNSF 100T bathgon oppers...pristine!
Gotta love it! That was a neat era for freight cars.
I don’t usually rewatch train videos but I did this one. So many fallen flags, merged flags, foreign flags…a real smorgasbord! Like watching a horse race to n fro…😅😂❤
We’re glad that you’re enjoying it! There was a lot to see back in that era…
When this was filmed you could still see GE cabless units in BN green.
You’re absolutely right. According to our resources, those locomotives last saw service on BNSF in the year 2000.
Man, what a great video!
Thank you Drayton!!!
Another banging train video!
Edit: Holy Christ! The Power! GE, ALCo, EMD... just WOW! Not to mention, the liveries that are still gleaming on the engines as if to say they had never merged. Such a diverse mix of power, AND I LOVE IT! Great video as always, Chris!

Thank you! Will do!
Yay!😀
great train video bro ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much!!!
Man I spent so many hours over there with my dad as a kid around that time. This brings me right back! Great memories.
Glad you enjoyed it. It was also a great time before CP no longer allowed people to park there.
Wonderful video thx for sharing.
Thanks for visiting! I'm pleased that you enjoyed it.
Daytons Bluff.... ❤ And BN locos. Yes, there are other roads but my heart goes for the BN . Loved those ALCOs too.. great sound! Thankyou again for bringing another great video to our eyes and ears
You’re very welcome! It’s our pleasure to share this video with you. We appreciate the comment.
Was just up at the Mounds Park overlook on Saturday. A lot has changed, but it’s still a great place to watch trains!
It sure is. It’s a great place to see trains, planes and boats!!!
A great era to catch Trains! Nice Production
Thank you very much!
There was a bevy of motive power and paint schemes at Dayton's Bluff back in 1998, Chris! Thanks for the video!
You are very welcome MJ! Thanks for your continued support.
Thanks, that was so cool.
Glad you liked it! Thank you for watching!
cool another train video!!!
Glad you enjoyed it Paul. Thank you for watching!!!
Excellent video and great catches!
Thank you so much! We’re glad you found this video to be enjoyable.
Excellent video!
Thank you very much! We appreciate hearing that.
And to think that as all of this was happening I was just coming into the world.
I’m glad you like it. It makes us feel good knowing we captured these trains for you to enjoy.
What an amazing amalgamation of locos n flags! What do you think of the recent merger of CP n KCS? 2 financially solvent train corps joining forces to become a dominant Canada to Mexico mega-carrier!
It certainly has been interesting to watch the CPKC saga unfold. Lots of newsworthy events lately. They are already running trains directly from the Midwest to Mexico. Pretty neat!
Love all the mixed power… seemed like every train had borrowed power or patched power
It was amazing. You just never knew what was around the curves.
I have to say those LRCX G.E'.S were one of my all time favorites. A few received logos to promote rodeos or represent the state they were rebuilt in.
As far as GEs go, absolutely. Those SF30Cs were something special. Livingston Rebuild Center added some interesting artwork on most of those units, as you mentioned.
@@CVisionProductions1 Which explains further why their my favorites & how they stand out more than compared to other diesels working on BNSF during the 90'S & early 2000'S. In my opinion, that kind of artwork simply gives them more individuality. In even turns out a few of them went to work on lease to CSX between 1999-2001 during their power shortage after the Conrail takeover SPLIT.
It appears that you’re correct on that, Colin. Their service lives didn’t end after BNSF. Also, look up MRL 7545 on rrpicturearchives if you’re interested. Specifically the shots from July and September of 2007. It looks like someone in the shop decided to spruce up 7545 using those old LRC stencils!
@@CVisionProductions1 Thanks a bunch for the info. I'll look into this right away.
You’re very welcome.
1:50 Amtrak P42 Veterans Heritage Unit Leader!
In the very beginning of this video there's a man standing next to a silver pick-up. Was he a 'bull' security guard?
Considering the location, that would make sense. But we’re not recognizing the vehicle as being railroad police. It’s actually possible that he was another railfan. You wouldn’t get away with that today!
Is that area along the Mississippi River still a safe place to watch trains?
Generally, yes. Just keep in mind that if you are on railroad property, there’s a good chance that they’ll run you out of there. The area along the tracks right at Hoffman is a no-go for railfan parking and viewing these days.
Hey, C. Vision Productions, have you heard that the Canadian Pacific is going to be merged with the Kansas City Southern?
We sure have! It’s happening tonight at midnight. End of an era… Thank you for the heads up, Andrew!
@@CVisionProductions1 You're welcome! I'll sure miss those two railroads. Soon they'll be on the list of Fallen Flag railroads.
Same here. We’re grateful to have seen both railroads in operation. There will be more videos covering CP and KCS in the future.
Is the video "Chicago in the year 2000" one of the videos you plan to upload? That is one I would like to see
We need to work out an agreement with the owner of the footage before we put it in our channel.
I will never understand when filming trains, people constantly turn the camera away from the train and record a bird, grass, river, etc. It would be one thing after the train is gone, but why when it is the object for which to record? Plus the fact people feel the need to record 10 minutes of an Amtrak train arriving and department, but only record the first 5 cars of any given freight train and of course 1 minute or two of a headlight approaching first...
Ok my griping is done.
We appreciate hearing your thoughts, Casey. It’s interesting (and very helpful) to hear what our audience likes and dislikes. Over the years, our video production and editing styles have changed based on how the videos are shared with our audience, whether it be VHS, DVD, Blu-ray, or CZcams. We try to hit the mark every time, but it’s tough to please everyone. Thank you for watching, and also for the comment.
Ther's a reason why the C.p. dumped those 4300 series cats .. we had um on the Northfield job a few times . junk...
The BN got rid of theirs as well. They just weren’t a good fit for the class ones. Needed to stay close to the shop and required non-standard parts and maintenance.
