- In this video, C. Vision Productions takes you to northwestern Minnesota and northeastern North Dakota to view train operations on the Minnesota Northern Railroad and Dakota Northern Railroad. Starting off with the Minnesota Northern, we’ll see MNN trains operating over trackage rights on Canadian Pacific’s Detroit Lakes Subdivision and BNSF’s Grand Forks Subdivision between Thief River Falls and Crookston, via Erskine. After that, we’ll tour MNN’s own rails between Thief River Falls and Warroad. Locomotive models include SW8, GP7, GP9, GP39-2, and SD40 (SD40-3). Not only will we provide you with ground shots, we’ll also take two rides in Minnesota Northern’s caboose number 19. We’ll ride between Erskine and Thief River Falls, and again through the community of Roseau. Moving over to the Dakota Northern, we’ll follow the railroad between Grafton, North Dakota and Walhalla, North Dakota, with two trains documented in this segment. In Cavalier, the trains meet and exchange traffic before heading back to their respective points of origin. Locomotives in this segment are ILSX 1391 and ILSX 1392, both identified as model GP10.
Locomotives seen in this video:
MNN 909 (SW8)
ILSX 1332 (GP9)

Pretty cool to get to do the caboose ride along, that would definitely be an awesome experience
Oh yes, spending time on a caboose traveling down the mainline is always a lot of fun. Excellent visibility from those things. It’s a similar experience to riding in a private passenger car on the rear of a train, but arguably more enjoyable. Thank you for the comment.
Minnesota Northern line from Roseau to Warroad Minnesota is Gone And it's a Biking Trail on Google Maps And Maybe there wasn't any Industry's in Warroad Minnesota which is on the US Canadian Border
Awesome CZcams Video of the Minnesota Northern Railroad C Vision Productions
💯💯💯💯💯💯💯👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you very much, Alex! And yes, you are correct. MNN no longer serves Warroad. We appreciate the comment.
You know its going to be a good day when c vision uploads!
We’re glad you feel that way! Thank you for watching.
Your welcome!
Those two shortline railroads are very interesting.
Thank you, Andrew. And yes, we agree. They are both neat railroads that don’t get a lot of coverage.
My name is Uncle Ariel Ethan Mermaid Lionel trains and Cinderella Armitage 10/12/1998.

Thanks for uploading some videos on CZcams. l can't afford to buy tons of RR DVDs. l have 4 CVP DVDs and they're great.

Thank you, Brandon! You’re very welcome.
A documentary on Northern plains railroad in fordville North Dakota would be cool
Agreed! That would be pretty awesome to see. Thank you for the suggestion.
The Minnesota Northern operates on the SOO Line through Thief River Falls!
That’s correct, MJ! It’s neat to see them using those trackage rights.
Great job with this production
Thank you, AMP Productions!
Another excellent video, very interesting.
Thank you very much! We’re glad that you enjoyed it.
cool! another train video awsome.
Thank you, Paul!
Thanks Chris!
Thanks for tuning in, Shannon!
First! , and very awesome video!
Thank you very much!!! Glad you enjoyed it. Nice job being first as well.
Great video ,I subscribe anything to do with trains. Why did railroads quit using cabooses? Looking forward to more videos.😊😊😊😊😊😊
Thank you, Arnold. It was technology and a desire for cost savings that killed the caboose. Those flashing rear end devices sense air pressure on the rear of the train, and can be used by the engineer to initiate an emergency brake application if needed. The information transmitted by this device is monitored through a communications box on the lead locomotive.
I would love if you would do a documentary on the Red River Valley & Western and the sister line TC&W love the documentary keep it up
Thank you for the suggestion! It’s on the list. Stay tuned!
Aamazing Minnesota northern was still using this caboose as not just a platform riding car as late as 2006. Was it used any later than that?
The caboose was brought out just for us. A big thank you goes to George LaPray for making that happen. We appreciate the comment.
Great work Chris!
What’s your thoughts on the upcoming CPKC merger?
Thank you, Alik! Regarding CPKC, we can tell you there’s a KCS video in the works… Stay tuned!
Bro Plummer is where I live
Very cool! It’s a neat place.
Any idea why there Was a guy opening up the long hood on that one unit?
ILSX 1381 was experiencing mechanical problems. They were having difficulties keeping it running.
Dakota Northern does not go to Walhalla anymore
That’s very unfortunate, but it seems like a fairly common theme in those parts… Thank you for letting us know. Out of curiosity, do you happen to know when they stopped running all the way to Walhalla?
@@CVisionProductions1due to impassable bridge couldn't secure funding to fix it and their big contract up there ADM closed it's ethanol facility
Well, that’s really too bad. Thank you for the information either way.
