  • Poor Alatreon, always in some kinda drama. Gotta love how there's real life and then there's Twitter/X. There has GOT to be a healthier way to deal with these issues that don't involve mudslinging to the highest degree. Its been annoying for years.

      i didn't know what it did until alatreon came out. i would always build around the monster i was fighting so i wouldn't get the blight.
      when i watched a mhw 'competition' on youtube and they were doing arena quests and dropping the monsters quicker than i did with my customized build. i gave up trying to follow that you crit, crit, crit for charge blade.... 'advice' and tried to get better at fighting the monsters.

    I'm one of them peeps who spent at least 2 weeks running around with 3 extra levels of frost attack skill after getting my Velkhana Gamma set because I thought FC added ice elemental damage. Nevermind that I also went out of my way to craft the swordfish GS and various other ice related things before my friend asked me why the heck am I even bothering with them. After his explanation of "It only adds raw, bro" I even called him out for attempting to bamboozle me. We're all good now, thankfully. In fact, we've been good for about 2 years now.
    It blows my mind how people can still get their panties in a twist over what Asmon said about what is essentially a classic game now.

    Asmon is right about one issue presented by the Alatreon fight: People shouting things at you are sometimes important details that you have to follow to complete whatever quest, and sometimes they're just suggestions that the game thinks you might have forgotten. Most of the time you can ignore them. It'd be very useful if the game could keep it to the former or the latter, with a more concrete way to tell them things that they must do vs what they can do. But it isn't a huge issue.
    As for the Frostforge, I don't know how it's supposed to work, but I'm using it with the Frozen Speartuna so I could call the build "Fresh" Fish. Because it's clearly freezer burned, you see.

    there's actually 6 monsters with dragonblight. 7 if you include savage deviljho.
    the behemoth is also the first monster with a DPS check, but that was a crossover, so it felt more acceptable since that wasn't a main monster.

      And does Gunlance do fire? Because as far as I'm concerned for its tenure in the series, gunlance shells do fixed explosive damage that ignore hitzone values?

    Right, I will get a lot of hate for this, but I do not care at all. The argument that "Alatreon is bad, because he has a damage check" Can be applied to a lot of monsters, mainly Fatalis (who is mainly compared to Alatreon as a main endgame challenge).
    Alatreon is so much better of a fight than Fatalis in my opinion, because his attacks are way better made in terms of hitboxes, his "dps check" is way less punishing than Fatalis's (that includes both the horns and his hp overall), and he is way more interesting to look at with a big diversity of attacks and ways to make you into crimson mist, instead of a human with a big sharp stick. Am I saying that escaton judgment is a good mechanic? Nope, it is very bad in such a game, and I do agree that if it wasn't in the game the fight would be better.
    Also, giving hate to Asmon, who specifically played through the game as an illiterate great sword main with a logic of a Rajang for not reading into such a specific mechanic as Escaton Judgement is such a Twitter thing. Just let a guy play the game how he want. Who cares if he forgets to look for small visual clues, that rarely show up in the game because only a small portion of monsters use dragon element. The beauty of Monster Hunter as a game is its learning curve and the process of understanding it, so just let him and Alatreon bash horns together, until one or the other is out cold, it would be so much more fun, than just belitteling the guy for not reading/looking for sometimes annoying text boxes and small visual clues.

    • @MahnsterHunter
      @MahnsterHunter  Před 3 měsíci

      I truly don't believe you should get hate for voicing said opinion. Its also ok to like Alatreon. For me, it was cool seeing Fatalis return but I wasn't too much thrilled with its damage being the artificial difficulty mixed with a 25 minute window? Oh, that's a nasty recipe. And twitter will do what twitter will do which is why I'd like to at least let people know that rather than just attacking people personally over things, it would be better to just engage in constructive manner.

    I honestly think if they’d released Frostfang Barioth first instead of Raging and flipped the updates nobody would’ve had an issue, the Frostfang Ice Weapons would’ve been Meta, and countered the Fire Alatreon Special Assignment perfectly, instead people jumped onto the Brachy weapon train and got bodied.

      @@MahnsterHunter I had the same thought earlier to be honest with you, especially considering Frostfang isn’t super distinctive from base Barioth in terms of fight (no big flashy moves or anything). I’m less inclined to say for certain it was just because I think it would’ve taken too long to implement if they simply decide to drop it as a hotfix issue after the backlash - as well because they’d have to see just how bad the response was or if it calmed down enough. It certainly helped but the release window even at its earliest was probably too little too late

  • @pyrrhos8175

    Will immediately say IB Alatreon was not the first DPS check. Far from it. If you're really cynical, every hunt is a DPS check, but you only really feel the timer in the new gen on select fights.
    However, in the same game there are more direct DPS Checks, albeit most aren't immediate cart/failure, just heavy risk:
    Every version of Nergigante
    (AT) Zorah Magdaros
    EX Behemoth
    Kulve Taroth (similar to old gen repel)
    Safi'jiiva (enough damage to drop crags to survive Sapphire)
    Post Alatreon:
    Fatalis (specifically the head to prevent blue flame)
    AT Velkhana (to prevent aura stacking)
    Saw Asmon running into this problem because, tbh most do. Part of the problem is certainly not locking the fight behind at least MR70, if not post 100 to have Health Augment. That being said he is also notorious for not paying attention to detail and being stubborn vs advice (granted with a chat of 20k+ don't exactly blame him). Certainly could have reached out to a MH creator though for advice: many of which who showed interest in his journey.

    • @MahnsterHunter
      @MahnsterHunter  Před 3 měsíci +5

      Yeah, in a sense most tougher enemies are a "DPS check" like Rajang and the metal raths remain active in their powered up state. It wouldn't be considered the same with Behemoth, Kulve, or Safi. Behemoth explored the MMO like mechanics but you had to protect the comets it summoned to hide behind when it reached its damage threshold. Kulve running isn't a bad check considering you're going to have to do the quest multiple times regardless. Safi is a mix of Kulve and Behemoth with running away and a one shot that can be avoided.
      What makes Alatreon the first true MMO DPS check is that Alatreon punishes you by carting you or your entire party for failing to reach its objectivr. You can't farcaster or outheal the entire thing(TDS did it with a crazy set but the average person isn't going to be rocking that), or hide behind anything. You're stuck with the true consequences of your failure unlike Rajang or Metal Raths where you could just walk out the area, trap, blind, paralyze, stun etc etc and not guarantee your death

    • @pyrrhos8175
      @pyrrhos8175 Před 3 měsíci +1

      @@MahnsterHunter totally agree. Ala was the first to really "require" an intended solution (granted you could ignore in certain matchups ie IG with a elemental bug or sheer firepower of buffed Dragonpiercers/HBGs) even if fights like some of base World's ATs and Behemoth really incentivized certain setups. I personally liked the idea of the fight having a gimmick especially since it was scaled per weapon (although GL got a bit of the short end there) but totally see the critical complaints.
      Small note: EX Behemoth does specifically does have a hard check in its 2nd to last zone where it casts no comets, you either do enough damage to push it to a final zone or it Ecliptics you with no cover.

    The one thing I always hated about the DPS check is how it was stat-based, not skill-based. I remember fighting when he first released, and I didn't have the optimal equipment and build, but I understood that I needed an elemental weapon. But unlike with other monsters where that just meant you would take longer than usual to kill it, Alatreon forces a cart simply because of it. I wasn't even getting hit more than 2 or 3 times after several runs, I could absolutely be dancing with him perfectly, but because the Escaton was purely stat-based outside of the two horn breaks (which was a skill-based mechanic, I don't know why they didn't just stick with that) it didn't matter that I was performing well in terms of fighting him and reading his attacks, I will always take that one cart because I simply can't deal enough DPS numbers due to my non-optimal equipment.
    Other than that, the fight is completely fine. I think Capcom did better with DPS checks when they introduced Fatalis. Same skill-based mechanic of targeting a body part, but none of the bullshit of a guaranteed cart because his flames could be avoided if you paid attention, while still rewarding you for achieving the goal with guaranteed drops and weakening Fatalis' damage
