OUR STORY:
John and Kristina purchased a 50ft Jeanneau Sun Odyssey with just a few weeks sailing experience. They set sail from Melbourne and travelled up the East Coast of Australia to the Great Barrier Reef as part of their Australian Sailing Series with dreams of one day sailing the world.
#travel #lifestyle #dayinthelife
How fantastic! We wish John the best, returning to the air and both, the best life has to offer.
Thank you David!! 🤗 He'll be living the best of both worlds soon.. flying and sailing... 😋
Always a good watch! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching 🙂 Be sure to tune in tomorrows episode, we’re running a special sailing giveaway ⛵️💭 xx

Cheers Caro!! We’re grateful to have you here, more than you can imagine xx ❤️✌️
Storm Scene was so epic guys! so keen for the adventures ahead! We definitely don't miss those east coast summer storms
It was hey! 🤪🤪 For sure, they’re so brutal. Pack a punch alright! ⛈️
Thank you both for an exciting quest you shared with the world
😅
Thank you Tony for your love and support! It's been so amazing to share this journey and growth with you. Cheers to many more exciting times together 🍺🍻
Another great video both! Take care and have funs!
Cheers Richard!!!! Always! Hope you're having a wicked week! Is life exciting at the moment for you? What's going on? :)
@@KristinasTravels Always lots going on with a near-teenager and near-tween lol. Easter holidays soon so on our travels to south coast! Sadly no sailing for us but seeing the sea will be nice!
Well guys I am ready for your next adventure. I can't wait to see the fantastic beach the you teased with. I feel like I have been on this adventure with you and know so much more about Australia and the really cool people and places.Thank you for a wonderful time. Peace😊
Hello ! I am anxious to see the new coming episodes 😄🤓
Another sensational vlog 🙌👏👍👌
To our dearest Patreon Phillip!!! Thank you ALWAYS and forever for your support!!!!! 😍 Grateful for you mate xx
YOU LEARN ALOT FROM YOUR FIRST BIG STORM. WELL DONE...
NEVER PANIC...
Truely... such an eye opening experience... 🤗 I did panic a little on our first storm in Lady Musgrave.. but feeling a lot more confident now!
Very impressive sailboat experience, really great thrilling video, thanks for sharing 👌👌👌
It's be a rollercoaster ride enduring storm season onboard, but I'm so glad we were able to take you through this series of events! A steep learning curve that's for sure!!! It's a very intimidating experience though, isn't it?!

I never usually chime in on sponsors, but I have to say this is one of the best apps we’ve used in a looooong time, such a great way to absorb vast amounts of knowledge and concepts quickly, they also have an audio narration or written Blink for each book (over 5,500 their website tells me). Lately I’ve been listening to a lot of project management/productivity blinks from some of the best authors on the subject, but there are ones on all sorts of topics, philosophy, psychology, health and nutrition, economics, biography’s to name a few… This doesn’t replace reading whole novels/books necessary, we still enjoy that... highly recommend giving Blinkist a go. You get a free second membership for a friend or partner and it’s wayyy cheaper then other audiobook subscriptions and many times more useful… thank me later! 😉
I dont know how you made a video like tgis tgat was actually entertaining. Well done. Subbed.
Thank you!! Please don’t stop filming :)
We won't Peter! We are going to be very busy this year :) Thank you for joining us for the ride ahead, especially for our shenanigans in Europe! 🥰
Can’t wait for the next chapter. Honestly we have had record snow this year in park city and watching your adventures has allowed me to get through the stifling winter with at least part of my sanity intact. Maybe the sun will show up soon? Thanks so much!
Cheers Kris, we can't wait either.. it's been a long time coming.. and we're going to be up to real time, which is SO EXCITING (and kind of nerve racking haha). It's so nice to read your lovely comment... sorry to hear about the bitterly cold winter there... I can't imagine.. it must be freezing!!! Hang in there... hopefully the sun will be shining soon... I guess that last scene on the boat, is a nice reminder to all of us, we can't appreciate the good without the bad... and the same can be said with the seasons.. how can we truly appreciate the summer, without a cold winter? 😊 Not long now Kris and you'll be flaunting a killer tan!? haha
Great video yet again.. Bribie island is a pretty place to visit..
I can't wait to see you guys sailing a catamaran, once you get used to the size difference in regard to docking, you will really appreciate the space and stability a cat offers..
Hey Bopper!! Such a pretty spot, but finding a secure place to anchor was a mission for us. I didn’t film it, but we literally had to re-anchor 3 times as we just kept landing on coffee rock. We could hear the dragging sound of the rock carrying up the chain as the anchor would slowly drag over it!! So glad we had enough time to move positions and find sand before the storm came through.
Ohhhh, can’t wait to show you the cat! 🙊 Now, we just need to win the lottery lol 😂🤪
Nice video and keep the jack lines to clip onto
Those mud flats just across from you is where I grew up. Not literally.😂 Anyway you survived the storm, well done! 😊 Happy Days, good on you John.
Another awesome video but I would expect nothing less from you now as you have got better every video. Guys your life will change for a bit as you now go back to living on dry land & can go get a coffee whenever you wish. John also will get a haircut & will come out a new man. Well they say one door closes & another opens so the short preview you gave us certainly looks absolutely brilliant & good luck with all your plans & of course the hidden one as well. You have to be admired as you bought a 50ft boat & with nil experience sailed right up the east coast of Australia & back to Brisbane safely. You have no doubt learnt heaps & so when you get out out on a catamaran you will be far better equipped as sailors than you were when you left Melbourne. Its a shame that John has to go back to work but for how long?? You guys are an inspiration to other first timers to have a go. I wish you all the very best for your future adventures & look forward to the nexxt video from you two. Take care & love.
Hey Glen!! Aww, I love reading your lovely comments each week ✌️ they’re a highlight 🙂
Yes, John’s not looking forward to the haircut! But keen for the coffee 🤣
Yes, I’ve been holding in all the exciting trips we have planned, so I feel so thrilled to finally share some of those upcoming plans with you, and the little secret one! All will be revealed REALLY soon.
Yes, it was exciting, thrilling, overwhelming, and to be honest, seeking adventure and taking risk, has opened up so many experiences we were blind to!
Cheers Glen, how are you travelling? Is all going well in your life? ✌️🤗
Thanks for asking Kristina. Man how I wish I was young again & have adventure trips like you have but past that now unfortunately. I am diabetic 2 & on daily 3 shots of insulin & dont let anybody say diabetes is not a problem. Its given me very bad periphipal neuropathy in my feet so bad that I have to be in a wheelchair if we go out which is a darned nuisance as I used to be fairly active. However I should not complain but look back on all the good times I had such as traveling around Australia in a caravan with my wife back in 2004 which was awesome. Anyway its great talking to you each episode & I look forward with earnestness to you next video. Cool down here today & perhaps hot days are over for now. Have fun in Brisbane & I see that your friend Rachalee is in Japan now. Wow she gets about also so good on her. Love.
@@glenhopkins8630 thanks for all your amazing support and comments Glen, we read every one, and really appreciate knowing all the hard work kristina puts into making these videos is being enjoyed, we’re very lucky to have some amazing support from good people like you : ) Sorry to hear about your health, that must be really tough, but glad you’ve got some amazing memories of your trip around Oz. Well I'm so sad, I'm in tears, Goodbye Tucana Ur a magic boat and uve taken me to many amazing Aussie destinations, so Thankyou for giving me, peaceful, exciting and downright scary sailing journeys , I've enjoyed them all. U've both made me laugh, cry and just have a great day so Thankyou. Good luck take care and let's go find another magic boat to run amuck in. 🤣😭👍🌈🇦🇺
Thanks so much for following along, we’re very sad to see Tucana go too, but we couldn’t have found a better new home for her, and we’ve got lots of adventures and sailing on the horizon which makes it slightly less sad… glad you were able to follow along and it’s good to see we were able to convey a sense of what it was like as if you were right there with us along for the ride! Thanks for the kind words.. we’ve got something coming up in the next episode as a thank you to people like yourself that have been following along on our journey and supporting our channel and encouraging us in the comments etc, keep an eye out!

Thanks so much Trev! You’ve been here from the very very VERY beginning mate! Who would have thought we’d make it this far hey?! 😅 Thanks for all your support over on the CZcams Sailing Channels FB page ❤️⛵️
@@KristinasTravels very welcome, Is it a secret what type rating John is renewing as in aircraft? I’m a hopelessly devoted., aircraft enthusiast.. I’m thinking it’s a Boeing? Probably international, where it’s something crazy like 400 hours in the simulator to get type rated again.. but that’s a guess.. was a brief cockpit view, i didn’t pause it in time to see.. ps I don’t need the airline.. and I’ve already told John I totally respect his decision, (well your both really) to fly again, Every airline is crying for staff, So it’s almost a “blank check” to get young pilots.. without naming names, a lot of people left the industry (not only pilots) because of the terrible treatment during the virus..
basically “what aircraft do you normally fly John?” 😂. Long comment short.. and do you what “mentor pilot”. Thats a huge youtube channel that has amazing success..
Hey Trev, I’ve flown the b777 and now the b737, I’ve just cracked 14 years flying commercially and closing in on 9,000 hours, the airline I fly for…. fill in the blank
The 40 year old …..
The ……. Mary
Extra …… olive oil
😂
Thanks for watching the videos these past few years! 🥳
@@jptilley10 that counts as type rating on both I assume, So sim it out..
9k on type, That’s near a line trainer? It’s a heap of hours.. possibly what you will be asked? Run sims a few hours, then run them as line training,.. not really sure, just know a heap are in the sims at the moment..
I would trust you! 😂.

A very groovy episode full of excitement and a touch of fear. You guys handled the storm well. Sorry about having to sell the boat and John having to go back to flying planes, with boring short hair. Stay safe and stay groovy.
Cheers mate! Yep.. def a touch of fear, but luckily our little processes and preparations that we put in place reduce the anxiety.. lightning always scares me still.. no control over that! Yes, bittersweet about Tucana, but sometimes one door closes, to open another! And that's the case here.. we've sold Tucana to open up some new opportunities this year that wouldn't be possible otherwise :) And yes... the short hair... BORING! But not for long hopefully! 😛
Great episode, nice to see you working on the boat even though you've sold it already, that reminds me of something I would so lol
🤗🤗 haha! Cheers Tony, we like to see her ship-shape 🤓✌️ Aghhh, exciting times ahead my friend!
I couldn’t help myself, everyone told us we were crazy but I wanted to hand it over in the best condition we could 😂 sounds like you understand haha
You guys must be so sad to sell your yacht after all the adventures. Thanks for the great videos ❤
Hi Jill, it is absolutely bittersweet!! But we have some bigger goals we want to set out to achieve a little further afield from Aus, while also having the ability to keep working to fund the channel. We're finding a happy medium and I think everything is falling into place! ❤️ Can't wait to share more soon. I just want to say finally though, thank you so much for your support. We simply wouldn't be here without your love, comments and interaction, so honestly, thank you from the bottom of our hearts xx
Thank you so much sharing Vlogs good upload keep it🌹🪴🌹🪴🪴🍀🌹
Thank you Raza, means so much! Sending you love from John and I xX
Hey guys, cool video as always, I have been here since the first vid and loved every moment of it. Would love your thoughts on a good suburb in Brisbane close to the city, hopefully on high enough ground not to flood (like 2011 and 2022)? Thx in advance.
Any burb alone the brissy coast doesn't flood. Stay away from creeks and the river inland. Coastal burbs with marine options are north; Redcliffe, Scarborough and Bribie then south are Manly, Cleveland, Redlands Bay, and Victoria Point.
I'm at a lost of whats going to happen next. Love the boat sad to see it go. I'm sure your doing what's best for you both.
We’re keeping you on your toes 🙈🙊
It’s certainly bitter sweet! But we’re so excited to get back overseas. Australia has been great, and also a brilliant training ground with its challenging conditions (tides, swell, vast distances, reef etc). But, it’s also a little too close to home now that the world has opened up!! 😆 We’re ready to experience different cultures with you! 💕
@@KristinasTravels Well I'm in for the long haul. Love the channel
Going to miss you two. ✨🌊💨⛵️🏝👙🌞✨

YEP!!! We're going to take you there!!!!! Have you been?!

Ship wreck bay! Nice to see you in the Ionian! You there for long or just a flying visit? I'm back out there mid May, based out of Vliho Bay on Lefkada.
Just a couple of days as part of a 1 month road trip! 😍
@@KristinasTravels Shame! There's so many beautiful spots to see out there. If you get a chance and haven't been already head up north on the mainland to Parga, it's stunning.
There's also a little anchorage with a sandy beach (one of our favourites) and a little burger van on the cliffs that plays old school rock music, just South of Parga on the mainland too. Scala Beach / Freddo Time Bar.
❤
❤️ Happy weekend xx

Happy weekend Thomas! ✌️🤗 x
there sea gulls not crows in a field
Didn't you sell your yacht like 12 months or ago...
BTW I seem to recall when you guys started you said both of you had quit your jobs. Me being an airline pilot I remember asking if HE had truly quit because it was hard for me to imagine an ATP would leave his qualifications as hard as they are to get them I know I would not until I get closer to 60 as much as I love my sailboat. Now it seems he really didn't quit. So I am a bit confused...
Hi Eduardo, so cool you’re a pilot too! Sorry there was some confusion there. John was stood down from his job as an airline pilot during covid, which means he was still on the books, but not being paid. This is called being ‘stood down’ here in Australia. There was no work for him, so he was able to use this time to take ‘leave without pay’ for one year, and that time has now come to an end! But, we have some exciting plans in the works which will allow john to keep his job and play ⛵️🚐✈️! More to come 🙂
You get it Eduardo, most people don’t understand how difficult it is to walk away and come back to a job like ours! Kristina resigned but I only managed 1 year without pay… I’ve since gone back full time but have hatched a plan to allow us to continue travelling and sailing plans!
Send Jon to work and come sailing with me at Waiheke meanwhile 😝💝
Haha!!
You can’t trust a weather forecaster 😂

If you are planning on buying a cat, stay away from Leopard. Fellow Aussies on their Travel Sketch channel, have been dealing with an absolute nightmare with their brand new 45. Robertson and Caine have been disgusting, in their responses to these guys warranty claims.
Hey guys, thought your subscribers may be able to follow your dreams even if they don't own their own boat, Plukky from Sailing into Freedom is giving away his. Yep as easy as it sounds, but the catch is you must be deserving, meaning you really want to sail but can't afford your own yacht.
That’s pretty amazing right!!!!! What a fabulous thing to do. Paying it forward! Can’t wait to hear who is the deserving sailor who is handed the keys! Thanks for sharing this with everyone here, such a great community looking after one another x 🧡🤗🙏
@@KristinasTravels Will let you know who wins her when i find out!
@13:14 Its going to be transformative. F an airline job dude. Get on a cat and keep circumnavigating.
I want to pin this comment!!! 🤭📍
@@KristinasTravels I remember very vividly when I was a new father, looking for something new to do with my life and career. I was researching "hybrid electric renewable blah, blah, blah" on google and I found a link to the electrically powerd Lagoon 420 back in 2008. The first electrically propelled catamaran ever. Big failure. I don't care. That was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen in my life and I've been obsessed with catamarans ever since. Get one. Be happy. Be free.
Haha this sums up my thoughts on the situation pretty nicely Geoff 😂
Clearly these videos are many months behind current. Just a word of warning. There is a noticeable change in the sailing youtuber channels where they are so far behind on youtube, but keep their paid customers up to date and when a video is finally posted, it only gets a low number of views and/or comments. Don't forget, it was and has always been the large numbers of non-paying subscribers who made your channel in the first place and kept it going on youtube. You may have received money from paid customers to keep your dream alive, but once the numbers here start to drop, then it all starts to go down.
I'm not making a criticism, because I actually like following you guys, but I am subscribed to hundreds of these channels and have been for many years and I have been noticing a trend with the channels that focus mostly on paid customers where the subscribers end up getting videos many months or even over a year old. They end up leaving in droves. Just be careful, is all I am saying.
Hey Shrek! Thanks for following along on our adventures! You might be surprised to know that of our 125,000 subscribers and 500,000 viewers per month only around 45-50 of them support us directly on patreon, we haven’t intentionally delayed our videos for non paying viewers, it’s just taken wayyyy longer to get through everything as we just filmed so much. Over the next few months we will be catching back up to real time, but ideally we’d only like to be a few weeks behind as it’s way more fun to be able to share things as they happen. We appreciate all our regular viewers and are under no illusion as to how important they are to us being able to keep our little production alive so have leveraged our contacts and have lined up a big giveaway in next weeks episode as a thank you to one of our regular viewers as well as one of our patrons, aside from the hours of free entertainment, we plan to continue to look for ways to give back to our viewers! Thanks again for watching 😊
Ps, at most patrons get the video 5 days or so before the public, but we do chat to them regularly and try to keep them posted on what we’re upto. Each episode takes Kristina a full week to edit, she’s not gone back to work, rather has been chained to her desk editing for almost a year to get these videos out! So any financial support goes directly to allow Kristina to allocate time to her new full time job - editing these videos (and replacing equipment etc) 😉
@@jptilley10 Hi John, Thanks for the reply and clarification. As I said, I wasn't trying to criticise you guys, but just give you a friendly warning.
Being an Old fart Aussie myself, and never having sea legs, I live vicariously through all these hundreds of youtube sailing channels that I watch and I have seen a trend starting to happen which doesn't stick out as overtly obvious yet, but it is there and if you pay attention you can see it.
I like watching your channel and also seeing the places in Aus you went to. We have few channels here in Aus, so I was soaking up the video you guys so brilliantly put together. Big kudos to Kristina for the hard work.
Sorry if my comment came over the wrong way. I just wanted to let you know and remind you both to not forget the subscribers like a lot of other channels are starting to do and I think it will be risky for them in the future as their viewership starts to drop off.
I can't wait for the next portion of your story now you've sold the boat and head over seas. I do hope that one day you might decide to come back to Aus and do some more sailing around this great land.
Thank you both for such enjoyable videos!
@@shreksswamp9001 thanks for sharing your thoughts, we appreciate all you guys! I’ve actually never seen Kristina work so hard in her life (even compared to all the 6am start - 12 hours days as a TV journalist) so it’s great to hear feedback and that people are getting something out of the videos 🙂
