- At 5:42 p.m. on Thursday August 10, 2017, South Metro Firefighters responded to a barn fire on King Court in Parker (near Hess & Motsenbocker) . Numerous callers reported the incident to 911 and the structure was fully engulfed with flames before firefighters arrived. Video captured from Salisbury Park shows the arrival of Engine and Tender 46 and the initial fire attack using a master stream. Engine 46 carries 1,000 gallons of water and Tender 46 carries 3,000 gallons, much needed in an area with no hydrants available. No injuries occurred and the cause is being investigated.
South metro is one of the best departments because they know what they're doing. they don't screw around. they are assigned their assignments and each firefighter knows exactly what to do. Great job by South Metro Fire!
Nice use of the deck gun to attack the fire. It really brought down the intensity, in only a minute!
Nice to see a department that makes quick use of a deck gun. Knocked the fire down considerably in the time many departments spend deploying hand lines. Hand lines that would have taken a lot longer than that to knock that volume of fire down.
Question was their any one hurt or any animals involved we have a fire still going on in lake Havasu city up when you drive to parker and this guy purposely caused the fire still going on tonight stated at 8:30 Friday morning and still going on and it's close to our house :(

Why did the operator position the tanker there? Now it’s blocked in and unable to be anything other than a nurse tanker. No water shuttle.
Different strokes for different folks. I’d never operate a tanker that way. But, that’s me. I guess if you think that’s enough water.

Why didn't the first engine lay in a supply line from the street and allow the Tanker to drop it's pool? Now the Tanker is worthless to get out and refill? 2nd engine could have drafted from the pool and supply the first engine. Great job with the Deck Gun.
Great question. The assignment was dispatched as a non-hydranted response, but there was actually a hydrant 3 houses away at the end of the this residential street. With a 3-person Engine Company at the time (2 on the Engine, 1 on the Tender), the officer chose to bring the Tender up to nurse while the second due Engine Company established a water supply, knowing that a water shuttle was not needed.

Food for thought.
1. You have to bring your own water. Don't waste it. While I Love the use of the deck gun, in this application it dumps much more water then is needed to wet the exposures.
2. The barn is a total lose so you only need to protect the exposers. If you leave that frame standing, it becomes a danger and waste of money to the owners to have it removed.
3. The items to the left are the only property in danger. Apply just enough periodic water to those items to protect them. Not a steady stream which ends up on the ground.
I have to say though, look at how, in seconds after being hit with the deck gun, the fire rapidly decreased in intensity. A handline wouldn't have done that good of a job in as short of a time.
I know, the building is probably already a lost cause, but there is no reason not to use this as a sort of practice for the worst case scenario. Thankfully it wasn't.
Edit: Also just because the deck gun is in use, doesn't mean it is using lots of water. Typically the pump pressure can be varied. In this case, they didn't need to go over far, so there was no need for a high flow rate.
2 Schools of thought . Correct on your assessment but you also have to take into account the perception of the owner and public witnesses present. If the owner wants water put on the blaze then empty your tank on it. A big advantage for the fd at this point is using this incident as a training exercise . Putting all responding units into operation builds proficiency on all. Shuttling water and operating a port a tank is one hell of a team building exercise.
With the wind that strong you put the fire out. Sparks travel so no time to waste. Good job. Just Say'n.....
While you are correct, it’s not wasted water. They were Called there to put the fire out.
