    The Dollar store items are awesome for quarantine tank decor. If you happen to have any kind of issues, such as mites, you can just toss out the items and the financial loss is much lower and/or they are often easier to clean than reptile products (due to the smoother surfaces).

    One of my favorite most used dollar tree items is a pet food scoop. So perfect for scooping large amounts of loose substrate.

    Just want to mention, we have that little tiny broom and dustpan, and it's perfect for substrate changes! The dustpan is great for scooping the old substrate out because of the flat, rigid front, and then you can sweep up the rest at the end 👌

      That’s what I use for cleaning my guinea pigs cages out. Don’t know why I didn’t think to use it for the reptiles as well. I think I’ll get another for reptile enclosure cleaning and keep the one I have for the guinea pigs and mice.

    I absolutely love DT flowers for my reptiles. My female Beardie uses them as a bed and rubs on them to help with shedding. I had just a small bouquet in there but she loved them so much I made one entire wall of her enclosure with them. I zip tied hem to a piece of one of the wire cube shelves and then used command strips to hold it up. She loves it so much. I use the flowers for my fire skinks too. I also buy the bins for cool end hides, the thinner plastic bins melt if they are too close to basking lights. I have a wood burner that I had bought for a single project a few years ago. I had no idea what else to use it for. Now I use it to cut hides and other plastic items I plan on using for my animals. I also buy the fleece baby blankets for almost all of my animals. My skinks are the only ones that don't have at least one of those blankets. I have bought the clear marbles and dragon tears for my fire skinks water dish. It gives them a bigger water surface to crawl in but keep it shallow enough that they can't drown in it. It's 100% a pain to clean bc they drag substrate in it. But it's worth the hassle of knowing the water isn't too deep for them. I know there is other things I have bought for future upgrades. They are hanging out in a tote. I just can't remember what they are. I have a bad habit of going to DT and just wondering the aisles looking for ideas. I may need a DT anonymous program bc I do it for more than just my reptiles. I've only been in the reptile community for almost a year. But my DT crafting addiction has been going on for several years.

    My 2 beardeds (housed sep ofc) and chinese water dragon love dollar tree leaves and flowers to hide in, sit on, and sleep in. Just make sure they don't try to eat them, mine rarely do but have tried on rare occasion, ofc cuz they look real....they love them we stick them in windowsill to make a nice perch for my dragons to take turns in WI down they love lookin out the window so we set Like an extension of the window cell what we call a nature table perch where we laid down a smaller tank on it side so if the dragon wants to come out of the window they don't just fall to the floor they have the nature table perch

    If your dollar store has a gardening type section, they sell the “fairy garden” accessories like tiny staircases, bridges, little houses and other things that can be used functionally or decoratively in enclosures. I have a tiny staircase in my mourning gecko enclosure and I plan on adhering a food dish at the top for them since they prefer to eat up off the ground. Also, my dollar tree has “nautical” rope that could be used for arboreal reptiles to climb on. I’m getting a few for my bahaman anoles and one or two for my royal python.
    I didn’t think about using the soap dishes as ledges. I’m going to have to check the stores around here and get some. Thank you for the great tips and ideas! ☺️

    • @ellesreptiles
      @ellesreptiles  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes! My dollar tree has that sometimes, but they didn't have any this time. Those would be so amazing in reptile tanks - especially mourning geckos. I bet your tank is so cool 😍

      @@ellesreptiles Aww tysm! I’m trying to get it set up for them. Just had to completely take everything out and clean it well because of mold. My ac has been out for 3 months and it’s getting pretty hot in here and these geckos like it damp and a bit humid so it’s the perfect breeding ground for mold. I bought a floor air conditioner (landlord hasn’t fixed the central heat/air unit) but it was still getting in the high 80s to low 90s so I’ve been stressing and struggling with that. 🤦🏻‍♀️

    All great ideas. I actually hoarded a bunch of the suction cup holds, because once they were all gone, and I decided when they came back, I'd get extras for the future,. So I kept buying them and "putting them in a safe place". Once I found all my hoards, I had much too many. I put a few outside my windows with bird seeds. Quick easy bird feeders that are easy to clean. They also make a great place to keep seedlings, but you ,must be careful when you water, unless you water inside the enclosure and need a little dampness anyway.

    A good rule of thumb for buying anything plastic from dollar stores is to only buy plastic items if they're from big brand names, else they will probably be toxic. Always check the labels for C E markings else you probably don't want your animals licking them.

    • @ellesreptiles
      @ellesreptiles  Před 2 lety +2

      Unfortunately, the CE mark isn't mandatory in the US (or any marking 😅), so items seem to only really have those if they're also sold in European countries (where it is required). So basically like you mentioned - big brands.
      But items having that is definitely a huge green flag 😊 Or the UL marking is also another good indicator.
      And definitely don't put anything iffy under any kind of heat 😅

I am the Dollar Tree Queen, lol 😂 No really, my daughter always messed with me b/c I would spend $100 @ the Dollar Tree & she’s like… how?! 🤣 Now the price went up to $1.25, plus they have $5 items… 😩 still not a bad price though 🤑 Anyway, this is a great video!! 🙌🏼 When I 1st got my beardie I actually used the shelf liner. I also bought the big tupper wear bowl to give her bath soaks in b/c she was so small. I’ve bought a couple of the leaves, also the 4 different colored succulents that are magnetic, but haven’t put them in her tank yet. Oh & those lil clothes line colored pins on a string, just for some decoration. I’ve also bought doll furniture & skateboards, just for photo shoots. She also has a lil stuffed frog in her enclosure that she’s had since she was a baby & a squishy cactus. She has 4 stuffed dinosaurs in her play pen for when she’s out & having her play time. I also have the spray bottle for when I spray her veggies. You’ve given me some more good ideas b/c I may be getting a crestie soon, won one in a giveaway. 😍 Hope it’s legit 🤞🏼Anyway, thanks for the video… I’m sure it’s gonna help a lot of people! ☺️

Super pricey tho but I'm getting another one at anoher pet store that has okayish tamed animals but look healthy! Please may you tell me how I can convince my dad for this animal, I have a few ideas of saying how cheap some things can be and how good pets they are and willing to pay with all my money and they are pet sitters for them since we travel not all the time but quite a bit, do u have any other ideas?
