And the dishonest Shops, you to pay for all their mistakes and related parts that didnt need replacing but were part of analyzing by process of elimination instead of analyzing with experience and test equipment. The cheaper estimates are usually going to cost more than the higher cost estimates.

    • @fastinradfordable
      @fastinradfordable Před 3 měsíci +8

More than Half the time the customer is wrong.
Deliberately misleading you because they have a feeling that it’s a certain thing.
One example people constantly say ‘can you check my fuse for…’
And what they really mean is- find out why it isn’t working
And if the tech starts just checking fuses- what the customer said-
That ties the mechanics hands behind his back and potentially makes it so your problem will not be resolved

I bought it used from a friend , looks showroom condition and very low miles. So I have more in the machine than I should but I plan to keep it forever. You can only suggest to do what you would do on your own gear. It's so tough to encourage them to do the same. I'm DIY just about anything and it's refreshing to hear the simple answers to the problems. Do what you can when it's all apart and don't cry later if you didn't do it and it fails. I just spent the last year rebuilding my parents first company truck. It’s a 2001 Ford 7.3 and I absolutely love the truck. I’ve never pulled apart an engine in my life and am always looking to push myself and try new things so I went and tore the engine down to the bare block, resealed and replaced everything I could to build it back up to continue to be the reliable work horse it always has been.
Seeing work done like this on that motor makes me sad. I may have never done significant engine work in my life but I made sure to look up every torque spec, CZcams video, service data I could possibly find on how to properly do the work I needed to do. I missed things here and there and exposed some problems I didn’t see at first but over time I fixed all of those issues and any problem I created I took money from my own pocket to fix it.
I want to take pride in my work that I do and to do it right the first time and if I don’t, make sure I make it right in any way I can. Everyone will make mistakes, I’m only 25 and I have definitely made mistakes but I’ve learned so much from those mistakes so in the future I can do the best I possibly can.
When I finish my current company projects I plan to do my biggest project yet, an actual cab off engine and body swap with some beat up trucks to make one really good work truck for myself to use. I have big plans and videos like these from you guys gives me the confidence to really push myself and just see what I can do, keep learning and keep helping anyone I can.
Actions always speak louder than words and I sure have thought about just giving it all up and going back to some 9-5 but I’ve stuck it through and kept at it.
    Cheers Dave and crew!

7.3 is a fantastic motor. After 2000 they switched to powdered metal rods its really the only issue with after 2000. If you aren't over 400 horses, you shouldn't have a problem with them. Just a little stuff I'm learning while working on mine. Also if you start pressurizing coolant on a 7.3 check the oil cooler before thinking head gasket

The shop recommended studding the heads instead of bolts, and I approved, while in there they recommended a few other items as well , I also approved those. A shop in Fontana ca. the only shop that is allowed to work on my truck. Just like ur shop I trust what they say. My truck is a 3500 HD dually with the Allison trans. Great truck. They rebuild injectors in-house, that is the biggest part of their business. Great place. Trusting ur mechanics is everything

Engine has basically same mileage ,360k. My turbo was junk somehow , had them pull it out they are redoing everything a little bigger turbo cat back deletion keyway the crank and redoing all the lines , was leaking trans and power steering. Putting the cumputer screen in so I can see it real time . Making just under 700hp !! They literally sent pic of the completed engine yesterday!! Just waiting for it to be dropped in.. shoudl have a great engine for years to come! Just need to get my hands on new bed and I’m golden!

As a Duramax owner, who just completed the difficult job of fixing or, the Y-Bridge not being seated is a common issue. Under boost the double o-ring seals don’t hold up, especially with mileage and blow by they get oil soaked and don’t seal tight and spit out the intake under boost.

As an older diesel pick up owner, I wished we had more shops like you like your shop around. I live here in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and there are no shops like yours here in New Mexico here in Albuquerque unfortunately I have one small shop that I take my truck to work on it, but they aren’t happy about working on Chevrolet six fives every time I go in there they tell me I need to move up to the newer model Chevrolet ones that use the DEF and have all the small equipment on it and I’m not going to change my 1997 Chevrolet C 3500 with the P 400 that I put in it to change out the original engine when it came from the factory, my truck had no smog equipment at all from factory back in the day. Nothing at all the P400 that I put in it. to replace the old 6.5 diesel because the P4 hundred is brand new versus the other ones that were just factory remand so I went the other way instead of getting the factory man and the other one was actually cheaper than factory, but anyway, the shops here don’t like working on them for some reason, don’t know why but they just don’t but I wish you guys were here in Albuquerque like watching you guys work on CZcams keep up the good work. Tell Dave to have fun down in Mexico fishing. I love fishing out in San Diego California. It’s fun down there as well. Good luck.

After my cp3 conversion the truck was destroyed trans temps went through the roof it built boost going down hill without vgt brake on ate fuel like it was going out of business no torque at all towing but not towing had tons of power etc. long story short shop that did conversion cut corners didn’t tune it right changed sensor output voltages to manipulate and hide engine codes so dash didn’t light up like a Christmas tree etc… went back to original shop 6 times over 2 months never fixed it. Went to another shop after a screaming match with owner of first shop. Second shop couldn’t figure it out. Third shop found the issue of changing sensor output voltages with efi live to cover up engine codes and had it all fixed in 15 minutes with a simple and proper 2014 lml duramax deleted tune and trans tune
