Lush has solid versions of pretty much all the basic traditionally liquid toiletries like shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothpaste, lotion, etc. which is great because you can save space within the 3-1-1 rule for things that don't come in solid forms. It's also a lot easier to travel with solid forms because you don't have to worry about leaks.
My number one travel essential:
Vaseline.
Dry lips?
Vaseline.
Stuck zipper?
Vaseline.
Papercut?
Vaseline.
Dry skin?
Vaseline.
Hotel?
Trivago.
Wife left you?
Vaseline
@@cekpi7 it’s wack a clock time!!!
Have you ever seen the road to El Dorado? Marco and Alex, Miguel and Tulio, they are the same.
Hahaha we actually checked it out last week because so many people have commented the same thing! It's spot on!
Hahaha, that's amazing. I remembered the movie from when i was little and watched it again, and all i could think was vagabrothers.
Yeah, we had trouble concentrating on the story line because we could just see ourselves!
It is so nice to go to sleep when the last thing that happened, was to get a reply from one of your favourite youtubers!:)
El Dorado is in Guyana .. you guys should so visit there!
Contact lens cases are great for foundation (esp if like me you need 2 shades!) & save up those free samples too! 👍
Interesting make up tip! Thanks for watching and commenting Lorraine!
Honestly, I've found it easier to just pick up liquid toiletries in the country I'm traveling in rather than bring it from home, and then at the end you can leave it at the hostel (if you're staying in one) and pay it forward to whoever doesn't have toiletries for whatever reason (like confiscated at the airport :D)
Also I have disposable razors that I just bring one or two with me and then toss it at the end.
Another added benefit to picking up while traveling and tossing before leaving is lighter luggage weight which means more room for gifts and souvenirs and less likely to pay extra for baggage.
That's definitely another way to do it!
of the dozens of minimalist essentials vids i've seen so far, this is the first one that suggests condoms.
good on you guys 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I travel quite often and I’ve never thought to bring condoms with me in my toiletries bag, but thinking back it could’ve definitely been useful. Great job by adding that in!
duhhhh
I have had that last sea to Summit bag for years and I love it. So light weight, so easy to clean, handy to hang up and plenty of pockets for everything!
tampons would fill up half that pouch
diva cup!
Get a reusable cup! So much better than tamps!
Um i think this kit is meant for dudes
You don’t need to put tampons in a kit. A regular zip lock bag will do the job.
Diva cup
Your channel is one of my favs on youtube! Thanks for all your content!
+elena hernandez thank you so much Elena! Comments like yours keep us going! 🙏🏼😊
Thank you! This gives me a place to start plotting out my minimalist toiletries kit. I wasn't sure what all I should include, as I'm fairly new to minimalist lifestyle when travelling.
Anti-diarrhoea is more essential than laxative!!
I went with a dry kit for my toiletries. Tooth powder, shampoo bar, soap bar, lotion stick, perfume bar, etc. works great and I don't have to mess about with tsa 3-1-1 nonsense :) (all in my minimal REI kit that you showed there)
Great video guys. You really never know what you're gonna need but my experience taught me that less is more. First time I traveled alone was pure chaos. Now I'm the one keeping others from leaving with massive amounts of bags and stuff
Yay. I love the truly minimalist packing list. This is great!!!
Easy, mellow, and smooth like a bunny. Good product.
These tips could help me to get for a trip and survive :) I really have always a problem how to pack toiletry :) thanks guys !
Nice. I'm simplifying all of my travel gear and this video was very helpful.
Best traveling item I have ever boughten is the ROLO pack. You pack all your close in it and then just role it up. Very organized and very easy to use
Loving these minimalist videos! Im trying to cut down how much I pack so these are super helpful!
So much stuff to get rid of! Minimalism is hard but worth it! Any other videos you'd like us to make Neylena?
Nice job guys - I'm a big fan of mini toiletries when travelling!
Going to Bosnia this summer and found this video really helpful as I plan out my trip so thanks guys!
+Li Rodri awesome!! We are going to Bosnia this summer too!! :) Where are you going??
I struggle with overpacking, this def helps! Thank you!
+Klaudia Ortiz glad we could help Klaudia. Any other video topics you'd like us to cover?
Im in the military so I only get a couple weeks at a time to travel. Any suggestions on how to maximize my time?
Thanks. Going to Barcelona next week so perfect timing 👌🏼
+Paul Madden have a top ten BCN guide coming out soon so stay tuned!!
You guys were with me in spirit last time out and my backpack seemed very light for such a long trip.
Awesome!!!! Where did you go??
Great video guys. Thumbs up.
You could also try toothy tabs or tooth powder for your toothpaste and save space!
+Eileen G tooth powder?!? Never heard of it? What's it like have you tried it Eileen?
vagabrothers lush has solid toothpaste, and also face wash that's quite good!
Hey Vagabrothers! It's like a powdered toothpaste! LUSH has a bunch of flavors. I really like the LUSH toothy tabs, which are like a pressed tooth powder. They are small and easy to transport (in a little container) and you can count out how many you will need! Super easy to use and leave your mouth feeling fresh!
Lush face wash is so nice! :)
Good to know! Thanks for the tip Eileen!
Heading to Boston, MA in tommorow! Needed help to make sure I wouldn't forget anything you guys rock
Hello from Cologne, Germany. I instantly recognised the bottle colours before you even said where you got it from.
omg I stumbled upon you guys b/c it was a recommended video...you're so helpful!!! (And pretty too!) ;-) Thanks for the tips, you gained a new subscriber today!
Sweet!!!! Looked at my toiletry bag this morning and was like wtf happened? lol!! TY for this video guys! Helped me out a bunch!
Los amo chicos! no hay un mejor canal en CZcams que este. can't wait to see your next video.
Te amamos tambien! Un abrazo fuerte desde California!
Great tips. Some great ideas
Thanks!!
I have the gotubb and I love it so much as for the other version I haven't gotten those yet but I dont travel much
Love this channel.
Great vid!
I love goo tubes!!
Yeah they are pretty great! Have you tried the containers yet?
I use a contact lens case! Since it has two compartments, I use one for toothpaste, and one for moisturizer :)
smart!
I always have trouble packing my toiletries so this was awesome! Thanks Guys!!
It's one of the hardest things to slim down. Anything else you'd like us to cover Tori?
You guys pretty much nailed it! I do have a question about the go toobs, have they ever leaked when you guys were using them?
No Problems, only situations ;) Loved Jamaica. Getting ready to travel back home to Houston for 2 weeks, trying to minimize absolutely everything. I pack light anyway, but always looking to go smaller. Love the vids guys ;)
I love the versatility of Dr. Bronner's! Though I've never been able to bring myself to use it as toothpaste as well...maybe one day!
+worldtraveler91 that's the final test. Only Dr Bronner himself has ever reached toothpaste enlightenment.
😂🤓
Hi guys, I don't know if someone has already mentioned it, but mixing soap with a little bit of conditioner actually works nicely for shaving. The conditioner moisturizes the skin a little bit:) Wish I can travel as much as you guys:) Maybe, one day:) For now, I will just keep watching your videos:)
Love your work guys!
I use Dr Bronners for pretty much everything, except shampoo. I find it doesn't work so well on my hair after more than a couple of washes. I use the JR Liggetts shampoo bar on my hair, which is a bit clunky, but lasts a long time and doesn't count as a liquid.
I also use toothpowder instead of toothpaste. It lasts suchhh a long time, takes up less space, and again, doesn't count as a liquid. I also use a bamboo toothbrush instead of a plastic one, I usually buy a kids sized one because its smaller, or like you said, just snap it in half. I find they last longer and are much easier to keep clean while travelling.
Aside from a few bits of makeup, I also take a little tub of coconut oil. It works amazingly as a moisturiser, after-sun lotion, makeup remover, hair treatment, etc.
I've been travelling for years but did my first carry-on-only trip through Europe for 6 months last year. It was amazing, crazy how little we actually need on the road!
Great tips! They're all really helpful! Any tips on makeup? We're going to try to tackle that topic later and need all the help we can get haha!
Maybe you should start wearing makeup in preparation for said video?
Haha, I look forward to your take on the subject!
In my day to day life, I do like to wear a bit of light make up everyday. Obviously all girls and boys will have their own personal preferences when it comes to make up. The most minimal attitude is to go without, but I really enjoy wearing makeup sometimes, and because of that, I choose to take some with me while travelling.
Generally, my attitude toward makeup while travelling totally depends on where I'm going and what kind of trip it is. I travel to a lot to places like Cambodia and Samoa for my work. During those trips I don't wear much makeup, because it just melts off anyway! I'd just wear a light BB/CC cream or tinted moisturiser that has some kind of SPF coverage in it. I'd also take with me an eyebrow pencil, mascara, bronzer and one lipstick - just for nights out or special cultural events I might be invited to. Those things are really small, quick to use, and do the job nicely when I want to look a bit more awake, and a lot less scruffy.
When I'm traveling through more mild climates, or when I'm spending more time in cities, I like to pack a bit more. My make up bag would consist of:
- foundation or tinted moisturiser
- concealer
- light face powder
- bronzer (I also use this as eyeshadow)
- eyebrow pencil (I also use this as an eyeliner)
- mascara
To me, that works really well. If I'm feeling a bit indulgent, I'll also pack a small blush and a highlighter - but only for longer term trips where I will probably enjoy a few more options.
In terms of makeup tools, I use the mini travel brushes from a brand called EcoTools. They're cruelty free and sustainable, very compact, and work exceptionally well. I also take a beauty sponge as well - I like the one from Real Techniques. Something that works for me is taking less brushes, but cleaning them more often. It's a great way to save space in my carry on. I use Dr Bronners to clean my brushes - it's the best and most natural brush cleaner I've used to date. So usually I take the sponge, 2 face brushes (one for powder, one for bronzer) and an eyeshadow blending brush. You only really need one face brush but they're so small so I like having two.
My overall tips when it comes to makeup would be to look at product packaging, as this often takes up the most space, not the actual product. And secondly, to look at products as being multi-purpose, even if they may not be marketed that way. This can cut in half the amount of stuff you need to bring.
Hope this helps! This is just how I like to do it, every person will have different preferences and needs when it comes to makeup. As you can probably tell, I like to be very intentional about what's in my bag, but I also like to make sure I have everything I need to be comfortable and feel great. When you don't carry a lot of stuff, it's important to really love the stuff you do carry!
Great tips - and yes Dr. Bronners does it all!. A few more to make things easy. A RMS Beauty makes small very flat containers of foundation/concealer or lip/cheek color. These can be applied with fingers or the tiny Real Techniques travel brushes. I like to use the same on lips and cheek for a healthy low key look. Ebay and Amazon have tons of different types of containers to decant your favorite products into - I like to buy them individually so the container is perfect for the product. Airless pumps are fantastic for getting all of the product out of the container and maximizing the little bit that you bring. Garnier sells small flattish bottles of micellar water. This doubles as a makeup remover and facial cleanser - it even dissolves pesky sunscreen. Australian Gold Tinted face spf 50 works well as a SPF and doubles as a blurring primer (even looks great and invisible on guys), this can help even out the ruddiness you can develop on your skin when in different water harness levels. For contact lens solution, one of the few things I don't want to decant, the RevitaLens travel bottles are small and flat (shaped like Elmer's glue bottles) and pack so easily!
Just found y'all today. Great videos! definitely subscribing! Also, going to Vancouver in April so great tips.
+Luis Tapia awesome welcome to the crew Luis! Hope you're part of the Notification Squad, tons of new videos on the way!
I'm going on my first backpacking trip this may! I'm packing everything I need in a carry-on size pack. This video is extremely helpful and something I'll keep in mind. :)
Awesome!! Where are you going Mackenzie?
All over Europe with my twin sister! Haven't fully nailed down all the places we want to see but that's part of the adventure. Must-see places for me are Prague and Budapest!
I tend to ride a little more heavy, but i do use the travel size toiletry stuff.
I use Campsuds, a concentrated, biodegradeable soap that can be used as body wash, shampoo and laundry detergent.
We also use campsuds, especially when camping and on backpacking trips. Great stuff?
sounds good to me!
+Eric Rubens (erubes1) 🙌🏼 let's adventure soon!
very clever ;)
Cheers dudddeeeeeee
Whoaaa digging all your guys latest vids :)!!
Thank you!!! Much more on the way so remember to turn on post notifications! Do you like the How To videos or the Top 10s most?
Lots of great tips! Thanks guys!
+Jeff Green cheers Jeff!! Would you like more videos like this? Any ones in particular?
The Dr. Bronner's tip was crucial because I really need to consolidate toiletries. Brought this way too big LLBean hanging bag PLUS(!) random ziplocs of toiletries on my trip to Iceland last year and really regretted it... In terms of other videos, I'm always interested in bag packing videos that show everything single item actually loaded into a bag. I'm 6' tall and all the most basic stuff I have to bring takes up so much space I find it hard to fit into one backpack.
Alright Jeff! Added to the list!
Flossing is definitely a priority!
+Izzy InMiami finally someone else who gets it!!! 😂 -Alex
And dental floss doubles as string when you need it.
Dental floss is a must!
You can also get solid shampoo and conditioner bars from LUSH and you can get a couple bar tins to carry them in and that can also free up some space in your TSA bag
nice tips
These are so helpful!
Rad! So glad you're digging the videos! Many more on the way so stay tuned! Anything in particular you'd like us to make?
Yes! What are your best touring trip. How do you get around when you go somewhere? What are some of the first things you do when you get off the plane and hit the ground running. Thanks again!
Hah, was just waiting for the solid cologne! Dr Bronner's though, yessss!
LOVE IT! Hahaha. It's soooo useful and it smells great! Promise this is the last time we mention it for a while though haha
Great tips! I feel like you could even fit some makeup in there if you're smart! You should get Carrie to tell us her tips
We love bringing Dr Bronner's around with us too and have used it to wash our clothes! If we are travelling carry-on only we try to stick to solid products so they don't take up room in our liquids bag (solid shampoo, conditioner, a small bar of hand washing soap for our clothes etc). The travalo is another great product. It allows you to bring a travel sized version of your favourite perfume or cologne!
Good recommendation! We'll definitely check out the Travalo!
you guys.......need your own merchandise!
I'm flying to Lisbon at the end of March, so this video timing is on point ! Thanks for all the tips have a great day Marko & Alex ! La bise :)
+Anais Grigri merci Anais!! Have fun in Lisbon!! :)
vagabrothers Thanks 😊. Btw have you been to Lisbon ? Can't find any video on your channel about it.
+Anais Grigri Marko has but before we started the channel. Need to get to Portugal and make some videos
Well that could be a good suggestion for future plan and video idea ;)
haha. It looks really pretty, lots of things to see and it's kinda
'cheap' compare to other Europe capitals. I'm from France so that's not
very far too :). You guys are in Wales if I'm following you correctly on
instagram, can't you make a little detour to Lisbon before going to
your next location xD ?
Best tip ever! Keep it up bruh! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks Peter! Any other video topics you're wanting us to make?
Visit Philippines 😎🤘🏼
Dr Bronner soap for the win! It's a great American product and can find different places around the world! If not then just know Dr b is a simple beautiful Castile soap. It used to mean soap made from Spanish (castile region) olive oil. Now the def has relaxed to include soap made with any plant based oil esp olive oil. So....any Castile soap will be super versatile because of it's purity and there are artisan soapmakers who make it and have been for generations. It's all over the Mediterranean: Europe, North Africa, and Middle East You can find soapmakers wherever olives grow. If you run out of soap on your travels that seems a lovely memento to bring with you from such a place. Look for Aleppo soap in Syria!
Pure soap should really just be made of oil and lye and will be named as saponified oil (oil turned to soap via combining with lye) The lye burns off so it won't be listed. They may add glycerin back in, it's a natural byproduct of the process. Anything else should be recognizable as a food or flower and is not necessary. When I learned this I started to realize just how overcomplicated toiletries are!
Before I go on a trip, I usually make a stop at Sephora and get a small sample bottle of my favorite fragrance. They'll make a free sample of anything they have and it's a great size to take with you on a short trip.
Sephora! Do they have fragrances for guys as well?
vagabrothers Tons! Traveling aside, it's also a great (free) way to find a new fragrance.
This video was genuinely helpful!
That's our goal! What's another video that would be helpful to you?
vagabrothers I would love to learn how to find cheap sleeping accommodations in foreign countries over the Internet (particularly smaller countries that are less developed). How do you know where to find them, and if they are good/safe?
Is that even the right way to go about booking? Should you book at all?
Good video topic Matthew! We will add it to the list. In the meantime hostelworld.com is usually a good place to look, as is airbnb if you're traveling in a small group. Anyone else have any tips for Matthew?
Awesome tips, bros
Thanks Josie!
In the middle of cramming for an exam I have tomorrow ........ but I guess it's time for a study break. Love it guys. Keep it going. Would love to meet up with you guys some day!
Good luck on the test! Thanks for watching!
vagabrothers thanks guys!
You guys are awesome. Keep it up.
Cheers Mitchell. Appreciate the support. Any video topics you'd really like us to cover?
Well along with the Canadian boys from "Departures" you are some of the best out there. Perfect blend of history/knowledge and fun/personal. I think prioritizing the travel videos is important, but I like what you have been doing with the personal stories. It would be interesting to know where you see you guys going in the next five years and the goals you have set for yourselves. Sorry if you already did this! Also, do a Winnipeg video... - Mitchell from Winnipeg
On the topic of medicine, would you have to bring prescriptions to prove that it's meant for you, and does the 3-1-1 rule apply to meds that need to be injected? I'm just wondering cuz I've heard that most airlines don't allow needles on their planes.
Wait! Link me that vitamin b tab!!!! I've heard of the shots before but never the tablets!!!! This is life changing
I have a tooth brush cover for the whole toothbrush when I take my full size tooth brush traveling but then again it takes up space but then I dont take a lot of other stuff aka none clothes wise
There is a teeny tiny battery op toothbrush. I don't remember the brand name. You can also get toothpaste pellets. I used to also make use of screw top contact lens cases for tiny amounts of things like Neosporin etc.
Your youtube channel basically helps me lots with travel thing. Keep going and help more dum dums traveler like me. Cheers! x
p.s: come visit Bali!
Thank you Aulia!! We have been to Bali but not in years! Really want to get back there!
Love the ideas and the toiletry bags, specially the hanging one for shared bathroom travels. Those tubes do they leak or open easily during travel? Bought some cheap ones and the body wash opened and got inside of all the other bottles, basically lost all my products 😒
They're pretty sturdy. So far, no spills!
Ziploc bags work well, too............
What are the hangover tablets you talked about?
this is so helpful
+Nickkey Petrucci glad we could help. Would you like more of these?
vagabrothers yes! and maybe some on how to save money for traveling ?
Do the suction cups on GoToobs actually work? I have another brand and they just slide down the mirror or tiles.
Where you gents off to next, I currently live in Ireland (from hawaii/seattle) but been living here since june, mainly because it's so damn cheap to fly all over europe...anyway i wouldnt mind meeting up with you guys sometime around europe...i'll be traveling central europe most of march and may...cheers guys
lol I need this. I'm trash at over packing toiletries!
It's really difficult! Our bags got way too full but making this video was a useful exercise for us too!
Yea! I bet! I totally get that. I did a snack prep video that was more for me than anyone! Lol
Omg same, I can't leave any of my skincare products behind lol
Dollar Tree in Canada or the US is a great place to get cheap toiletries!!
Nice tips! Try to use roadeavour's travel toiletry kit!
I have a hairbrush that folds. I think they don't make these any more (mine must be from the 1980s), but it's great for trips.
Haha!!! Me too! Dental floss, dental floss!!
Does TSA pre-check apply to International travel?
I swear Alex does voiceover work for some commercial I hear on the radio.
+Zach Smith hahahah not yet but something I've always wanted to do!! -Alex
Matador soap bag! Ditch the silicone bottles
U can put dry shampoo it keeps your hair clean and refreshed
The jamaican accent. Maybe never do that again 😂
Hahah, uh oh. We are about to drop the Jamaica vlog series! Stay tuned
Alright 'mon!
For the record, CVS has castille soap-exact same stuff- $2 cheaper. I havent used conventional soap in over a decade.
Those GoToob's are super cute (handy I bet)! :p If only I could pack this light. Haha
They're great! You can pack this light too! What's the problem?
vagabrothers Make up! 😆 Yeah I bet I could!
I saw one of your videos and you did El Camino de Santiago de Compostela. Can you guys make a video about it? Please pretty pretty please!!!
+Elisa Figue the Camino is so incredible!!! We've wanted to make a How to guide for
The Camino for a while. Hopefully have it ready in the spring :) Are you going to walk it??
vagabrothers yes, I want to walk it not this year #studentloans but next year around may 🚶🏻♀️🚶🏻♀️🚶🏻♀️
Ok cool!
Walking the Camino is free and staying at pilgrim hostels is donation based or very cheap. Pretty much just got to pay to get there! Good luck Elisa! In the meantime turn on post notifications and come travel with us!
Dr. Bronner's Baby and Almond Soap scents do not burn like the Peppermint other scents do.
Does not look like the solid cologne is available anymore. Do you have any other recommendations?
Make the Dopp kit!!
Re: deodorants, you guys didn't touch on aerosols. Many years ago, they gave me a little bit of hell for the spray-ons, but I'm wondering if they really do explode in the high altitude. I'm allergic to the deodorant sticks, and always end up getting a rash.
Maybe they have spray that isn't aerosol. Pretty sure those things can explode. Anyone else want to chime in for Bobby here?
Dental floss can also be used to cut dried meats and cheeses for a Euro lunch!
"Everything irie"!! Great jamaican accent at 3:31, made me laugh there! :) Filling your own smaller (e.g. GoToob) tubes is definitely the way to go. Travel size product, while really handy, tends to be quite expensive.
; ) Are you Jamaican? Hahaha! We just got back from there so the phrase is in our heads still!
FYI a straight razor is the foldable kind with one blade (like in Sweeney Todd :D) what you showed is a double-edged razor.
Guys, just a grocery store ziploc bag will suffice. SO much cheaper. Also, please don't wear cologne or perfume on an airplane, it can be overwhelming in a tight space. I love the Dr. Bronner's too. It's mutlipurpose. If you bring a very large ziploc, add a tiny bit of liquid soap and water, it can be a makeshift laundry bag. You can fit a few tshirts, socks, undies, seal it up, squish it all around, drain, rinse with water and your clothes are clean.
You should try the nuud deodorant! It is really tiny, sustainable and you only need to apply 2-3 times a week
Can you do a video on how to do hand done laundry while travelling? It's always my biggest enemy while travelling and I'd like to know your wise tips.
