no, hard disagree. This scene is cool for visual spectacle, but absurd from a logical standpoint. she had no reason to spare Aegon and Aemond. Both of them represent another family's (Hightower) attempt to steal her own Family's (Targaryen) legacy. Especially considering that if she only killed Aemond, that the possibility of an all out war basically gets averted.

She had a solid chance to take down Aemond and set up one of her granddaughters to step up and claim Vaghar. just taking Vaghar away from the Greens basically averts an all out war, and having your seed claim Vaghar assures victory for the Blacks to whom Rhaenys has now pledged allegiance.

The new king is the first son of the last king, standard stuff in the eyes of the realm, in both fiction and reality. The son of her cousin viserys, they are all targayens and the throne would still be in the hands of targayens.
It's always easy to plan the best strategy in hindsight. In real life, most people try not to be the ones who escalate with violence first....because who ever kills first might be looked at BY THE PEOPLE as the bad one....kin slaying was a big deal and she wouldn't have been able to kill just Aemond.....it would have to be most or all of them burned to death including Helena...........Remember both her children burned to death, Leana burned by vhagar albeit at her request......Leanor killed and burned in a fireplace (or so she thought).....she had nothing but burnt/charred corpses to bury for both/all her kids.
Seeing Alicent stand and plead for her children's lives, to not be burnt was an emotional trigger. she could possibly see herself shielding Leanor.
If they started with trying to kill Rhaeneyra first and failed to do so, then she might have burned them all.
If Rhaenys knew her fate, she would have done it...but like all of us, she can't see the future.
There is always a chance of resolving things relatively peacefully, why not take it. By sparing them, she showed them, they didn't need to use violence and thus alicent sent otto with terms of peace.
In the end, it is what it is, I didn't agree with the scene 100% of the way, but it's not as bad as many people make it out to be.
Beautiful scarlet scales, piercing yellow eyes, and a savage disposition. The fastest dragon alive, Meleys the Red Queen. Amazing 🤩

Best dragon entrance in the franchise imo. The breaking through the floor, the heavy crashing sounds of her steps, the fear on the Usurpers faces just a badass you "boy you fked up" moment. R.I.P. all the smallfolk though.

So far my personal favorite in HOTD is definitely Caraxes followed by Vhagar and then Meleys. However, I’ve got a good feeling if they do him right, The Cannibal is bound to be my #1 or #2 forsure.

aside from one detail that online fans keep forgetting. That being the fact that the Cannibal never actually does anything of any plot significance during the Dance of the Dragons. There is absolutely no reason to waste effects budget on him aside from the fact that it scores reference points for people online.

@@Aurora-jw3mz As it stands now, Aegon is the lawful king. If Rhaenys murders him, not to mention his mother and the nobles behind them, she's an instant fugitive. Not even Rhaenyra could or would protect her after such a blatant act. If she did it would surely mean war.
@@danieldickson8591 War with who? Nobody can possibly beat Rhaenyra and the Velaryons combined. Once Aegon and Aemond are dead, there is no war to fight. They would've lost their dragon riders and their claim to the throne. This is the whole point of Viserys naming Rhaenyra his heir. She was the one married to Laenor, with children named Velaryon, and 10+ dragon riders in her immediate family. She was the best option to keep house Targaryen united because she had the most power supporting her. The Greens had nothing other than the male heirs and Vhagar.

I am rewatching house of dragons again and you can’t help but admire Rhaenys’s resilience in the build up to this scene - The amount of hardship she has suffered - Loosing her daughter, loosing her son (or so she thought), her husband not being by her side for such a long time, and then being held against her will before breaking free with her Dragon here 🔥🙌🏻 - She must have felt so liberated being one with Meleys again and no longer alone - The power she has here in this scene and the sudden shift is epic - gives me goosebumps each time 🙌🏻🔥🖤

I absolutely adore the sound design for the dragons in this show- like, Drogon, Viserion, and Rhagar all sounded great, but the way Caraxes and Meleys have that almost sonar-esque sound within their roars just sounds so fuckin' cool.

Her house is neutral in the war at this point, so it makes sense that she left them alive
While true, this would look pretty bad:
-Stormed the throne room, murdered countless people and nobles.
-Burnt the son of Viserys, his widowed wife, his daughter, his other son alive without any trial.
-Now it looks like Rhaenyra struck first and eliminated her entire family so she could rule unopposed, and makes Rhaenys a kinslayer and Rhaenyra by proxy.
-Daemon would likely try and kill Heleanas children, meaning it looks even worse as completely innocent children are killed and Rhaenyra is seen to approve of it because she wouldn’t punish him, plus it makes the future king consort a kinslayer and Rhaenyra also.She would also demand Daeron be handed over immediately to her, be it to kill him or make him a hostage, much like the mad king did to Jon Arryn.
-Now it looks really bad, and the reach would likely revolt, as would the lannisters, and others, who can rightly say that Rhaenyra is a kinslayer and usurped the throne, murdering the entire green family and her own brothers, sisters, niece and nephews.
-No one will follow a kinslayer, a woman, and someone whose sons are obviously bastards as queen of the seven kingdoms.
-Even the Starks wouldn’t support them, as kinslaying is a big no no, and rhaenyra has made so many bad moves already.
Well, you can't know. Sure, dragons would ensure the reign of the house controlling them, but you don't know how that would go out.
Velaryon was getting stronger and stronger, while having many marriages with the targs. Would be possible to have two dragonrider houses soon.
Furthermore, the Dance wasn't the last rebellion inside House Targaryen. Remember the Blackfyre Rebellions some years after. Without the Dance, these wars would have been fought with dragons. So, from the beginning on events like the Dance were to come. The Dance wasn't even the first time. Maegor's reign was, him killing his nephew and his dragon. This just didn't escalate in a war between dragonlords.

This scene does raise a number of questions for me to be answered during the Storming of the Dragonpit. 1 - will the hole in the floor still be there or will Aegon have repaired it? 2 - if the hole is still there, then how does it still have a flat hole centuries later during the negotiations?
And if the hole is still there, then how other dragons don't escape from the pit like Meleys did?
And Aemond would kill Meleys and Rhaenys later on💀

Что тут шикарного. Выглядит красиво, но сама сцена очень тупая. Рейнис просто так поубивала кучу простых людей. Это должно было быть началом войны, а не смерть Люка. Теперь стаеовится понятно почему простой народ в столице нелюбил чёрных. Почему нельщя было сделать как в книге. Эйгон с Хеленой бы пролетели над городом на своих драконах. Это было бы намного лучше этой тупой сцены с Рейнис. Неужели авторы так сильно хотели показать какая она крутая, что сами же и разрушили ее персонажа. Не могли дождаться 2 сезона? Рейнис там щадала бы жару. Но нет надо было сделать ищ нее террористку на драконе🤡

Daemon also has very good control of Caraxes. Rhaenys and Daemon are older and more experienced riders, and they've been with their dragons longer so their bond is closer too

Really nice of them to Kate sure the dragon could fit through the door.
Now that's obviously a skilled rider and a trained dragon going fast and retracting it's wings to go out the door.
Rhaenys didn't do this to start or end a war. She plays what I like to call 'the long game, and she has seen what violence can lead to. Having lost children of her own, I don't care how you want to see it that shit BURNS forever. Rhaenys as a character does not want to kill, she has no desire to be in the position she is in. She wants to survive, and she stayed back as much as she could throughout the majority of the first season because she respects her leaders and wishes for peace. When the chance came to destroy the usurper, she realized that she would be responsible for more death. For taking away a child in front of his mother. When you're a mother who has lost children, that hits different and will every time. As humans, we are emotional creatures and we don't always act rationally, especially not when grief and anger are so heavy. I think that was portrayed VERY well not only in this scene but in others, too. Her constantly wanting to stay out of the way of the crown and simply be. This scene, overall, was a warning to stay the fuck out of her way. Those innocents killed were not a part of that same warning, they were collateral damage and nothing more. Cold af, yes, but when you are Rhaenys pushed to the end of your limits, all that is left is the ice. I am looking forward to seeing what her and her stunning dragon do in season 2!

yes, Rhaenys is the oldest and most experienced of all dragonriders. in the storybooks it is portrayed how unique and strong was the bond between her and Meleys, The Red Queen. This scene proves it, the roar of Meleys shows how angry Rhaenys is with all that shit going on. At this moment, Rhaenys is the most experienced dragon rider and when she was younger, she flew meleys all over the 7 kingdom and they’re not strangers to wars. Meleys is the fastest and most agile of all dragons, although she is lazy but if attacked, she never ran away from a battle and she shows how badass she is, as we will see in the next season when she and Princess Rhaneys fight against Vahgar and Sunfyre, according to the books, Meleys in a fight against only Vaghar, she would have a great chance of winning Vaghar. She is a beast!

Viserys rode Balerion which was tge Dragon of Aegon the conquerer. But he died before the series starts.

People can complain if they want, but I think this is a boss move. Demonstrate just how hollow King Aegon's power is. The Greens are not invincible, and now all of King's Landing knows it. As for why she didn't have Meleys flambé them. Well, they weren't at war yet. And perhaps it could still be avoided. If the Greens were smart, they would back down after coming this close to the brink.

All of Kingslanding turns on Rae- so this move was pretty stupid.
Everyone saw Aemond would NOT back the f up on the last dinner with the king and how reckless he can be not to say he has the biggest dragon, she only had one chance to end it all and yet she did not use it. Maybe that was the biggest reason the throne didnt want her
The Targaryen banner is a Red Dragon. The usurpation of the throne is so wrong, from a peasants point of veiw, it looks as if the very essence of the Targaryens (the Red Dragon) is rejecting Aegon.
