This level took me _days_ back in early 2000´s. I ended up appreciating it for being unforgiving, but man it was hard.
I was a little suprised at first. Back in the day the reds in this mission were called "Doria".
also they started in the tool age and with the +2 attack upgrade on their troops. dont know why they dumbed the troops down

Alex Majike Well there are sequels that deviate way too much from the spirit of the original, for the better or worse. Sadly the latter is usually the case (RIP Dead Space :( )
Oh my god that music of the intro! My most favourite campaigns in a RTS ever (and I've played many, many...AoE2 is up there, too, but AoE1 campaigns are unique). Get ready for some of the most epic campaigns ever. You shall see when you get to certain campaigns scenarios (Hannibal, for instance) or one where you start with a monk... (this was the most epic thing I've ever played in my countless hours at RTS games). Moderate or Hard can be fine, Hardest ufffff, I'd like to try but I don't think is compensated.

The vills wouldn't work on the berries without glitching because the berry bushes are stacked, and the vills can only harvest them from a few directions. It's odd... but that's what you get with old game mechanics.

Great memories ! But in mine, the hardest AI used to attack my base with fully upgrated axemans in like min 3' not in 20' but you actually did great for your first campagn !

Only Viper can turn a 10 minute mission into a half hour one...
oh... if i remember correctly melee units had different animations when fighting depending on their position to the target. axe-men for example sometimes used both hands and swung their axe over the head. now all units seem to have one animation only, thats kind of sad :(
edit: then again, new units, animations for destroyed buildings and these graphics. these kinds of things were the ones i expected for aoe 2 when they announced the "hd" version :D

This is like age of empires rise of rome. I played this over 15 years. This is one of the few games i can confidently say i can beat theviper!

In the original aoe1 50 was the maximum population. So if they haven't changed them quite a lot, which I grassDaut, all the campaigns are restricted to 50 pop.

I been playing standard and i find it hard lol. Just the tutorial (all) took me like 17 hours to complete, IK i suck but Im liking it

he learns really fast though! I grew up with this game and my countless hours in it are there to attest it. I have the new edition and he is playing really well. Campaign wise he is in for a treat. AoE1 has the most epic moments I 've experienced in RTS campaigns and I have a long history of RTS games under the belt.. Cheers
I agree, I spent many hours with the original playing ranked games and managing a clan. After playing AoE2 for so long, going back to AoE I found myself to be less than efficient. A few hours with DE and hopefully it will all start coming back.
He he he he...I was in a clan too! We weren't experts, but not bad either. Gotta say that I had the honor to play with the best AoE2 player in my country back then, and we won. Regarding the AoE1 campaigns, some say that Holy Man is one of the best..., but there is a particular campaign where you start like that, and that's the most amazing part of a campaign I've ever played in a game. So intense. AoE2 is better polished but this game was so impactful at the time, nothing came close to it.

This looks a lot easier than the original version. I just played it and I was attacked constantly.
Except the first three missions the Egypt Tutorial Missions can be tricky on hard and hardest, especially when there are quests to obtain gold and you can do them only by trading, no gold patches on the map, and enemy attacks you :-).
Very surprised you did not use a Scout rush. 5-6 Scouts could've caused untold damage and would've been very, very effective in scouting.

Hi Viper. It'd be awesome if you could try Ulio campaign by Ingo Van Thiel on Hard. It's very challenging, it's a masterpiece campaign.

Probably the most brutal from the start: it really gives you a sense of those small tribes fighting over food and other resources. You're surrounded by competing tribes, exploring is dangerous and it makes the world feel much bigger.
I somehow liked the Yamato Campaign a lot, if I remember well from all those years ago. And the Babylonian scenario, starting on an island without villagers, getting attacked all the way while a Wonder is being built :-) Anyway, this brings back memories!

played this mission on easiest or standard, but ai was attacking a lot more frequently and had to restart so many times due to losing the game as they have the better economy and barracks make endless units then they build archery range nit until I hid myself in that forest and got the techs that cost food and wood and made a large army of about 30 units before I got the chance to defeat the red and win and yes the brown fight the red, but the fights used to happen while my villagers were dying everywhere with the next attack wave coming in before I can recover from the previous attack, what happened did they change the ai or something?

Good afternoon. Tell me this: when you select military units, only appear two basic commands (attack and stand ground) and not the advanced commands. Why is that?
AoE 1 campaigns feel much easier. You can just abuse the AI with walls. Except for hittite 2. I skipped to that mission and you're basically in feudal age and have to somehow deal with a couple imperial age paladins and FU aztec monks with slavic unique armor tech.

AOE1 is really hard for me for some reason. I can't figure out how to win. This mission gives me a problem because of red team, and not having the ability to advance to get stronger units.
It was giving me a lot of problems as well ... I followed this person's method of attacking the yellow ones right away. Otherwise you just keep getting attacked from all sides.
i was so triggered that viper had 1 idle villager the first 10 mins of the game!

The sound of the intro narrator was a bit low, as you suspected, but it wasn't very difficult to understand, just a bit less than what would be comfortable to listen to.

I feel like you should play the tutorial campaign and just finish it in one video, maybe after you finish the rest, to say you've completed it all.
Should be interesting to see how you do in a game you still don't know much about.
It literally says you can skip most of it if you're familiar with aoe though.
Even speedrunning that campaing took an hour in the old aoe, that would be at least 2 hours video.
The last few might be somewhat challenging though, considering how much he struggled in the beginning of this one. I feel like he has to do Religion, at the least.

I was wondering why brown didn't attack you (it happend to me when I played this part of the campaign).
Didn't know that red and brown are enemies, for some reason they didn't attack each over, when I played this :( and it was horrible (but I only played on hard).
I really don't like that the enemy rushes you with all he has, the campaigns are poorly programmed and the enemy uses everything he has (at the start) to attack you it seems. Also in the tutorial campaign where you have to convert the catapult, the catapult just goes into your own base and you just need to use your priest to convert it and win in under 1 minute...
I had hopes that the developers would at least reprogram some of that stuff + the pathing, if they allready to a rework, but they didn't... And this fucking xbox store is driving me crazy. Never have I seen such a bad store, even Uplay is better, I couldn't start AoE 1 the first time and had to reinstall it.
Do you play on steam? I often see someone named theviper (ELO 2041) hosting games.

You can make your name on hd be whatever you want, if you are often seeing someone named the viper it is almost always going to be a fake. He only plays HD if he is doing it on stream so check that if you are unsure.
Steam version sucks. Why the real Viper would play it?
The original game on hardest is more difficult. If you attack the red in this scenario early they go ham on you not just a couple of club man but a dozen of them
I was actually able to take out their starting force with my own. Maybe the Rise of Rome EP made it easier idk.
