THIS IS WHY SUPERMAN IS THE MOST IMPORTANT,ICONIC,AND GREATEST SUPERHERO OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • @stuckinthemiddle6851
      @stuckinthemiddle6851 Před 10 lety +3

What exactly are you talking about? A cash cow effort (with the exception of Louise Simonson, the only person involved who seemed truly sincere in her desire to write a good story and pay respect to a character she clearly loves) to reignite interest in Superman with tactics akin to yellow journalism is hardly what I call something that proves Superman is THE MOST IMPORTANT,ICONIC,AND GREATEST SUPERHERO OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't get me wrong, I love the character, but what has made the character so endearing and such a powerful icon of inspiration for over 75 years can be found in the uttermost core essence of the character: Superman's moral fortitude. Some people see this as a negative aspect and view Superman as nothing but a mere boy scout, but that just goes to show the growing cynicism of a world in which the concepts of truth, justice and hope are increasingly being seen as the stuff of fairy tales.
Wanna know why so many people disliked Man of Steel? This characteristic was seldom found in the film. In place of this was a more paranoid and distrusting character who has little to no faith in humanity until he has a discussion with a priest. Snyder and Goyer missed the point of the character entirely. The point was and has been for Superman to be a character that elevates the world around him and refuses to allow it to drag him down. New interpretations are fine, but ignorance of what makes the character the character and what separates him from other comic book superheroes is not.

@@stuckinthemiddle6851 You weren't paying attention to the video. The WHOLE Superman writing team were passionate about this story. They knew the weight and great responsibility they had in creating the death and resurrection of the greatest super hero ever created, and they rose to the challenge and delivered.
Superman is about perseverance and altruism. He's the mythological, the human, and the hero. He is the ultimate adoption story. 10 years ago, Zack Snyder gave us that in Man of Steel. Superman is universal; many thing to many different people. He didn't earn becoming one of the most popular and recognizable symbols on the planet by being just one way, and the diversity reflects in his lore, and in that film.
So many people "disliked" Man of Steel because they failed pay attention to the fact that this version was about Clark finding out about who he was and why he chose to become humanity's protector, instead of having be it written off as a matter of destiny.

Wow, this is one of the stories that was big when i was growing up. Yet, I didn't have a deep appreciation for the event until after watching this video. Growing up reading comics like the Death and Return of Superman, made me realize ,at a young age, that comics is not this dumb entertainment format. Just like tv,novels, and movies, it's a format that can appeal to everybody. The movie industry is finally catching up to comics.

The Death of Superman was so overly hyped as an 'event' that 1000s of people bought the comic thinking it would pay their kids way thru college but it and the 'Funeral for a Friend' and the "Reign of the Supermen' story arcs are not worth all that much. The non-comic buying people thought Supes was dead and would stay dead. The stories were good reading, but did anyone really believe Supes would stay dead?

I’d like for WB Home Video to take this two-part storyline and reissue it as one movie; similar to what they had done for the Batman/Dark Knight Returns animated films. And as a bonus, include the Superman/Doomsday movie and all of its special features, as a two-pack movie set.

That's great! Whatever we can do to get kids reading comics, I'm in. I've been enjoying comics since before I could read because my dad is a DC fan. I think we as fans need to think more about all the kids who could be reading. There are some great kids' books but hardly any advertising or visibility. Most kids start reading because they enjoy the movies or animated shows too. I don't know if you have kids or nieces/nephews or what but now it's our turn to get the kids onboard.

I remember being very young and going through my basement. I found a couple of random comic books in a desk and one of them was "The Death of Superman."
I've watched many animations and read modest novels, but never really got into comics ( Outside of Heavy Metal magazine...once again my father's accidental doing ). It was thanks to Death of Superman that I learned about comics, and appreciate them greater now as a result.
On to the topic at hand: By bringing Superman back they've undone the power of his death. Alternative reality Supermen are fine, and would still fuel an entertaining and exciting continuation of the comics...but ultimately he should have remained dead in OUR universe (or at the very least in the DC verse that represents ours up to that point).
They should definitely had killed Superman...they should definitely had NOT brought him back.

Too bad Tim Burton's SUPERMAN LIVES never happened:( It would'e been somewhat based on the DEATH OF SUPERMAN.

Courtney White less of impact batman is human so it is natural he dies but superman is supposed to be the one above us all super strong, heat vision, xray, flight, speed, super breath superman seem to be like a god unstoppable and so when he died it had more of an effect on people then Batman

Boy, they know how to sell it don't they?
I'm glad it was a fun time for them, but I was never impressed at all with the story arc or the content. Now looking back, it's one of the worst Superman cluster-mucks in his comic history.
My opinion of course. But very cool upload. I remember this from 2006.

I agree that Death is meh
      But Reign is completely awesome.
It brought a lot of cool new ideas to the table, like Superboy that has his bioelectric field fucked up so it's telekinesis. Eradicator and Cyborg Superman where one is AI inside flesh and blood and other is human mind inside technology.
Then there is also badass Superman in black with guns, that arrives in mecha.
Plus Jurgens then explored Doomsday further in Hunter Prey and added even more ideas to the Superman mythos.

Read Superman Doomsday omnibus, most boring writing ever. The arcs just drag, and I think deosn't respect you as a reader. Give me Alan Moore, Frank Miller anyday for that humanist element
