I have made this pattern in toddler size and I use anything from a fat quarter to a pair of daddy's old jeans. It appears that the denim aprons won the contest hands down. When they're not worn for painting, cooking, gardening, they make great capes! Oh, the imagination of little ones. My friend has a preschool and I made 30 aprons for her (denim). I did not put a pocket on the toddler aprons as you never know what surprises you may find in the laundry 😂. I sold a couple last weekend, and the little girl loved it so much, she wore it and showed other vendors her apron. You know that age, they won't wear anything that looks like a bib. They want something that looks like Daddy and Mommy's apron. Haven't seen many grown ups turning them into capes😂❤
I am teaching myself how to sew. Back in the day I didn't have any interest although my Mom and sister were great seamstress'. I am 68 years old and my children bought me a sewing machine. I have watched this video numerous times and I am very excited to make my first project!!
@@KarinFadley I’m in my 60’s also and I just started “sewing “ in the last few years. I mostly make dog bandannas and I really enjoy it.
Love the idea of an adjustable strap and long enough to wrap around. For us "Senior " cooks that have had shoulder surgery, not having to tie a knot in the back is great. Think I'll take some dress shirts from a family member that has passed and make some Remembrance gifts. Thanks for the idea. And Yes, I love your furry assistant.😅😅
You can make an apron from a men’s dress shirt. I have made them and they are simple. Can be made with very-little sewing. I think they would make a great remembrance item. Leave in the collar and buttons.
Came for the apron, stayed for the cat 😂. Seriously though, great tutorial. Gonna make one right away!
I wish i had seen this earlier. I am making all of my grown children aprons and all tutorials are 26 and 28 inch aprons. I made my 6ft3 sons first, the 2 daughter in laws next and realized their aprons are the same length. So now i need to add length or go get more material and start over. And what a great idea for the straps, it takes the guess work out of how long a neck strap i need!
Me too I feel like starting over
@raeboyd5596 could add a ruffle on the bottom to lengthen the ladies aprons.
When you were listing the supplies needed for this project, you forgot to list a CAT. All cat moms know how helpful cats can be- they’re willing to lay right on your fabric, just in case a sudden wind howls through your sewing room.
LOL!
All of us " crafters" KNOW and COMPLETELY agree: The importance of a cat during brainstorming or sewing is required and non negotiatable. 😅😅😅😂❤❤
My old fella, Flash, loved sitting on the back of my chair while I was sewing. He’s gone now and I sure do miss him sitting with me while sewing.
Reading this as my cat walks across my material 😂
You forgot in your supplies, one fluffy cat. 😉 Thanks for the tutorial! I love that you keep it real by adding your bloopers!
Very important inclusion!❤😊
Absolutely agree 😂. The cat is a must !! 😅
I love your videos and you make a awesome teacher. You make it easy and I love your helper.😂
Fun video!! I also added a small pocket at to top of apron with s slot for Phone and Pencil.
I plan on making one for a man for BBQ wear. I made pockets out of kitchen size towel with BBQ print on plaid fabric. Enough fabric was left to make Hot Mittens with black denim on Palm side .
Really like the apron & am also enjoying your bloopers you’ve been sharing at the end. We all need to have a chuckle & a smile these days. Thanks!
Your tutorials are my favorite. The instructions are always clear and easy to follow. Love your fabric choices.
Your fluffy "supervisor" made me smile.
Thanks for sharing!❤
I made a very similar apron a few months ago following someone else's tutorial but yours is SO MUCH EASIER! Thank you for the clear and concise instructions.
Love the easy instructions, I added a second row of pockets to the bottom of the apron. We can never have enough pockets for, keys, glasses, tissue and phone. I also made it reversible, so now there are two beautiful sides to choose from. Whatever mood that you are in! Thanks so much for this great project.
Thank you so much! I have been very nervous to start sewing, but my mom needs a new apron, and I've got a beautiful new sewing machine. This helped me so much.
I just made an apron as a gift for my bf for Valentine’s Day last night using your tutorial and it came out great! It was so fun and simple and this was my first ever sewing project, so it was a great confidence builder!! Can’t wait to make more projects:)
I was thinking about adding a buckle to the neck strap to make an adjustable apron but this is so much better- wow. 😊
I just made this apron as a gift for someone, and it was so fun and easy! Thank you!
This is just what I needed, my daughter is a chef and goes through a lot of aprons 😊👩🏼🍳Thanks so much , from the UK
i love this easy pattern I'm getting ready to make one and found your video thanks so much
Another beginner sewer here. You make it look "sew" easy. Clear directions. Thank you!
I volunteered to teach a single mom and four of her five wonderful children in Feb. This will be a great project for The Sunshine Sewers!!!
I made one for my son who does woodworking and knife making. He loves it! Thanks for the easy tutorial. You're the best!
Me again! I finished making one of these today using a fun grey fabric printed with cows; it's a wonderfully quick project and I am very pleased with how it looks and fits. Someone with a little more practice than I could easily do one in an afternoon; heck, I probably could have, too, but after accidentally trimming the corners for the casings on the folded side instead of the cut edge, I decided it was time to take a break, LOL. The strap is a bit too long - I can wrap it all the way around my body & then tie it in the back - so next time I will cut three strips for that instead of four. It's surprising how easily the strap can be turned using a chopstick, even being as long as it is. And for the record, turns out that dogs are as helpful as cats, LOL. PS, I tagged you on Insta if you want to see the finished project.
Such a cute apron! My family has all asked for aprons for Christmas for 2 years, but I couldn't find a fast, easy pattern until now. Thank you!
Yes! Aprons for everyone! LOL!
Needed sewing supplies must include a fluffy cat! ❤️
I literally was thinking the same thing. I don't know what it is but as soon as I lay my mat out for cutting my cat decides he MUST lay right there in my way. Glad to know I'm not the only person suffering from this problem
Oh good. I have several.
Exactly! Lol
My daughter made this as her very first 4-H clothing project - she was so proud! Thank you for the awesome tutorial!
I love the adjustability of this apron! I used a thicker linen fabric and it turned out great. Thanks again for sharing your talents ❤
Thank you for creating this tutorial. I followed along exactly and very pleased with the apron I put together.
I'm searching for the ironing mat you have with the measuring lines. That would be nice to use.
You are just perfect! until the bloopers..... very nice!
That's the perfect width for the top of the apron. It doesn't bunch up and pucker when it's worn. Thank you for the tutorial.
You’re welcome 😊 So glad you like it!
Thank you so much for posting this. Your directions were clear, concise, and most importantly easy to follow. I also attached a ruffle to the bottom and it turned out super cute! Again, thank you so much!
Great tutorial! I love the way you did the straps. Much better than turning them inside out. Very well explained. Thank you. These are fun to make.
I can not thank you enough for this lovely lesson. I never knew how to sew. I made two aprons for me and my son. This is lovely . Thank you
Oh Boy! Your fluffy assistant is back! Jack is adorable! The apron tutorial is just what I need! Thanks, Erica, for always including clear cutting instructions! Pat
Love this. I especially like how you incorporated the straps.
Thank you so much for this, as a larger mama i love your adjustable straps! ❤❤ Also can make for gifts without worrying about sizes for my other beautiful ladies. Thank you from over in England!
I made this apron for a friend and received so many compliments on the design design. Thank you so much for sharing this very helpful video
Thank you so much for this tutorial Erika ! Just made an apron for my dads birthday and used pieces of jeans as patchwork to create the fabric, it’s amazing 😻
I love your tutorials. Not only are they very thorough & easy to follow, but you make me laugh with your bloopers at the end of each one. 1:00 p.m.
Oh my goodness such an adorable and easy tutorial on how to make an apron. I love that it's adjustable. Love your adorable kitty/helper. Going to try this style. Wish me luck.🤞🙏😂 Thank you for sharing your video.😊
I love this easy to sew apron! Thanks for the video. Your daughter is beautiful!
I love how simple you make the follow along. I used your episode to make an apron for my sister's birthday present. It was fun and got me really into sewing. I really look forward to making other items.
Omg that is what I do. MAKE APRONS, I love your adjustable straps. I can't believe I never thought of that that's amazing. Thank you
Fabulous tutorial! I understand it! I am following your tutorial and I am succeeding. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I’m just loving your beautiful, little, furry, assistant.
A friend asked me to make him one exactly like this, so I was very happy when I found your tutorial. I made a practice one for me first just to check out the measurements. Ended up making it reversible since I was using a cotton print so it was a bit flimsy and I didn't like the idea of the wrong side being visible, albeit from behind. The double fabric adds a bit of weight so it's perfect. I love that the straps go around exactly like my beloved Ikea apron which I bought years ago. Much better design than others I've seen! I will have to play with the measurements a bit as he is heftier than I am, but I am really happy with your tutorial. Thanks!
How did you do the straps with it being reversible? I would like mine to have a little more weight also because I have a cotton fabric. I can't seem to wrap my head around how you could feed the straps through the same way.
The bloopers are AWESOME!! hehe Thanks for another great tutorial 😊
I love this tutorial I know I will have to watch it several times. I am teaching myself how to sew I thought I would start with an apron.
Aww! Your kid is so cute! What a good sport modeling the apron for you!
Awwww, your daughter is model beautiful. And I love this apron, THANK YOU 🙏🏽
Thanks for your easy to follow tutorial. I'd been searching for an adjustable size apron that didn't require me to purchase a pattern, or download and then print out a pattern, as I don't have access to a printer. This turned out great, and was super easy to do. Now, I need to make one for myself, too. These will make great holiday gifts!
This is a terrific patter! You are a very organized seamstress; time-saving tips. GREAT! I'm a rather chunky old woman so I needed to make adjustment - mostly in the length of the straps. I suggest measuring one's girth before deciding on the length of the straps - test it out with string or rope or something. I also added a pin on the inside waist of the band so i wouldn't pull it all the wan thru. Could add a knot at each end also to prevent that. Good work Erica~!
I have a set of three turny tool things I bought on amazon just for turning straps and it is the best! They are basically tubes and dowels, you put the tube inside the strap and then use the dowel to poke the fabric through and flip it.
Yay Erica!!! I’ve been needing an apron and this is perfect. Love the tips on how you cut the fabric. I always have a hard time with cutting big pieces. Fabric is perfect. You find the cutest fabrics. Will be making me one of these and then may make a couple for gifts. Love all your tutorials. So easy to follow. Love how you measure!
Hugs! 💕🐾🐱🐾🤓🌻🦋🐝
I just finished two of these, one for me and one for a friend. They were so fun to make. Thank you for all your sewing videos. I love making all your projects!
I've been looking for an easy apron pattern and I think I like this one. Thanks for the lesson.😊 My cat has to lay right in the middle of my fabric so it gets his "full" attention.
I finally made this today. It was a long process for me because I went slowly through each step the instructions were perfect. Thank you for this tutorial!
What a great tutorial! Thank you Erica. Now I know what I will be making for my daughter and granddaughters for Christmas. Need to look at my stash for fabric I think they might like. See you next time.
Love the instruction. I'm planning on making this tomorrow. The bloopers were the best part.
Thank you! Love the fact that your cat hangs out with you! 🤗 Mine do the same and I love it 🥰
This is my first sewing project! I made it and it was pretty easy! I'm normally a crocheter but I am surprised at how much ironing is included with sewing, thank you for the easy to follow tutorial and I am sure I will be making a ton of these for my craft class to practice!
🤗 Thank you Erica, very doable! Glad you are feeling better. Take care.
Yes thank you, getting better every day!
Hi! I made 4 of these a couple years ago and 2 more just last week! I love this apron and thank you for sharing it:) Marilyn
Thank you for your tutorial! I used toale aprons when I was kid. I had forgotten how to them. Thank you for refreshing my memory.
Erica thank you for making this so easy I can even make me an apron. Thank you so much Erica can’t wait till I get some fabric!!!!
Oh! I meant to say that I had a cute pocket sized panel that I got on Etsy . It looks like an 1890’s post card of beautiful botanical art. I loved how it turned out on plain linen. Thanks for concise instructions.
Thank you very much for the video! It is officially my very first ever sewing project -- very excited!
My all time favorite apron pattern. Great gift. Easy and quick to put together. Thank you for posting.
Glad you like it!
This was the first apron I ever made. It came out great. Can’t wait to get started on my next one. Thank you

Such a clear and easy to understand video! Your energy for sewing is contagious, can't wait to make these!
Thank you for this super easy apron. I am very new to sewing and I was able to make it.
I looking forward to making more.
Thank you for making your tutorials so easy and simple to follow. I made two aprons for Christmas presents and they turned out great. I look forward to watching all of your videos.
Thank you for putting the measurements in the description!
Great tutorial, Erica. Your daughter makes a lovely model.
I made very similar aprons in March of 2014 for our granddaughter's first birthday because she liked helping Mommy cook. One for her and one for our daughter. The only difference is mine had curved sides with facing style casings to fit the curve. The angled sides of yours makes it easy for a novice to make a great apron in less time. Thanks for sharing. Reminds me these would be great Christmas gifts for my sisters in law that both love to cook.
Are the instructions the same for a curved side?
@@judybennett3143 No, it is not. As I said I made facings to use as a casing for the straps to go through. It's a separate piece of fabric cut to fit the curve of the upper sides.
Love your fluffy assistant!
I love this video. It’s so helpful right to the point and fun. I’m so happy I found this video. 😊 great work.
