I was born in 71. I feel lucky to have grown up when I did. It was soooo much more innocent way of living. Play was done outside with sticks and rocks and dirt.
Mom stayed home with the kids dad was to be feared (if you did wrong).
If we said we where bored mom would put us to work, so you would find things to entertain yourself.
In 2nd grade we could ride our bikes around town.
Maybe you would play a organized sport after school a few months a year.
Generally we entertained and took care of our selves we didn't need our parents to organize our days. You were expected to be responsible and if you weren't you alone would suffer the consequences.

KC was the "Original" Fly White Guy. From roughly 1975-1980 he and his Group The Sunshine Band had Five #1's. They did The Midnight Special, American Bandstand and one of the few White Artists to do Soul Train. Their Number Ones were "Get Down Tonight", "That's The Way I Like It", "I'm Your Boogie Man", Shake Your Booty and "Please Don't Go". "Keep It Coming Love peaked at #2. Boogie Shoes was featured in Saturday Night Fever and Boogie Nights and his Songs were also featured in Commercials and the Melody for "Shake Your Booty" was featured in Goldmember. He also wrote Spank & Dance Across The Floor for Jimmy "Bo" Horne and "Rock Your Baby" for George McCrae. This show was from TopPop, a Popular Music Show from Denmark.

@@davidtanner4262 KC definitely preceded Wild Cherry if you're referring to the disco precursors. It was KC and Rick Finch who developed the seminal disco-like tune "Rock Your Baby" by George McCrae. That was released in July 1974, about a month before the Average White Band's AWB album that featured the most definitely disco "Pick Up the Pieces." I think it's fair to say that the disco transition was in the air in 1974 and that KC and AWB were pretty much concurrent.

Some of my favorite jams from back in the day were from KC and The Sunshine Band. I actually worked in a disco in 80/81. This was the 70's!! Boogie meant dancing basically.
    More of their songs:
    Boogie Shoes
Shake Your Booty (my greatgreatnephew's favorite song)
    Get Down Tonight
    That's The Way

Both of them always seemed to be genuinely happy and really enjoying performing. Their smiles are infectious. "Boogie" back in the day, meant dancing, "shaking your bootie" ect. This song was about a DJ :) Fun fact about the song :) " A specific DJ who influenced this song was Robert W. Walker at Y-100 in Miami, Florida, who was the first to give the group's hit single "Get Down Tonight" airplay. So Walker "was the Boogie Man that brought all the funk and the good feeling and the vibes to the people every morning," Rick Finch told Songfacts."

When I first heard this, as a 9 year old, the opening bars seemed spooky and ominous. Then it broke into the jam of jams that had me up and dancing like nobody's business. Fast forward 20 years, and Rob Zombie comes out with the spooky version of the song, and I couldn't help but nod and think, "Yeah, you heard what I heard in those first few bars." An iconic song, by an iconic band; I don't trust anyone who doesn't appreciate KC and his Sunshine Band on at least some level . . . Because these folks are the real funkin' deal.
