Great video. I've been considering one of those valves and I think I'm sold on it. Thanks!
cool
All oil filter should be like this Subaru Forester...right where you can easily access it. After all, it is the one thing in the car that needs to be replaced the most often. I hate it when you literally need map just to locate the oil filter hidden underneath the car. Thumb up for Subaru engineer!
Paul C when I bought the car & saw the oil filter on the top, I sang praises too
rvz77 I would be happy too if my oil filter is as accessible as the new Forester :). My Acura RDX oil spilled oil all over the car frame every time I changed the oil... In fact, they even sell a special oil spill preventive pan just to keep the frame clean, go figure! I just called that an after stupid after thought engineering.
Paul C perhaps it has smthg to do with the horizontal boxer engine?!
Mitsubishi used the same location for the Gearbox oil filter like ages ago. The thing about the oil filter it should be located at the very bottom of the car so it would always have the oil in it (gravity) and you as might already know it's better for the engine to start (especially when very cold) if you have an oil in the oil filter already.
Oil changing was easy on the subaru. But changing sparkplugs gave the mechanic a really hard time lol
Love your videos and vlogs. Doing and a great job and congrats on your new job!
Hope you can do more Forester videos to compare an unmod XT vs the WRX...
Keep up the good work!
+Kevin Diep thanks, they are very different cars, and i don't think i could love the XT for myself unless i had it modded like my WRX.
I have to get one of those valves, that is sweet. They make a clear hose you can hook up so you don't get oil on your hand.
+Chris Baskett ya, i prob have a few hoses, just didn't remember.
You can use any oil without voiding your warranty as long as it has the "for gasoline engines" or "API SN +energy/resource conserving" stickers. It only has to have one. And I'm pretty sure I saw it on that ultra platinum.
To my knowledge though you still are required to use the Subaru oil filter
Thanks for sharing the nice videos, possible to do a comparison between a forester xt and the wrx - mainly driving experience
+Parth Kulkarni there is no comparison really. they arent even in the same realm of car type. either you want an SUV or you want a sports car.
That's really cool ! 9,800 miles wow!
+CyborGod TV think we got both cars right around Feb/March 2015. I got them just 2-3 weeks apart I think. so we both have exactly 10k miles on them now.. I'm already over my lease allocation for a year. aw well, who cares..
Did you check under the driver's seat for the sub? You should see a small silver box. I was told by the dealership that its the sub. My another car has a sub in the trunk so I was quite confused by the location and size.
And where did you get that black filter? I did my last two oil changes at the dealership and they told me that the black filter is not available in the US and only blue filter ending 15A is available.
i think ive been using black filters from amazon for 2 years. amzn.to/2nVTKy1
Question about the Fumoto does it come with the clip you have or would I need or order that as well? It doesn't show on the Amazon product page.
+Ian Francis it does not come with the clip. I buy the clips here: www.fumotooildrainvalve.com/fumoto-lever-locking-clip-for-all-f-series-fumoto-valves.html
a very helpeful vid thanks so much! may i ask if you have ideas what cvt fluids are used in forester XTs? and how many liters? thanks again!
no idea, CVT fluid hardly ever needs to be changed. maybe once at 60-80k or something. never looked into it.
i was advised cvt fluids need changing every 40k, probably about 12.5 liters. hope we get to see this oil change too. thanks, man!
Hi fr i’d like to know if that filter what do you put is of wrx if fit with system of the forester xt 2016 is if this is better or the same flow range oil
yes?
hi~ just wondering if you are still using Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5W30, is it going well? Coz I am also considering using this oil in my forester xt as well...thx!
ya, i used that in my 3rd forester oil change too. ill put a link to the one i get in the description. sometimes it goes on sale.
Should do more videos on the forester xt, love the oil plug
+Sergio Soto nothing to do man.. the car never needs anything.
Can you still find the black filters for the FA20? I was told all that Subaru has is the Blue Honeywell ones.
+cobra454tim no idea, i bought a 8 pack almost a year ago. i hope i can still get them. you can always find it on amazon or ebay somehow..
+LastHumansGarage My uncle has the same year and color as yours he was telling me its hard to find the black ones now. Subaru at least up here in Sac only sells the Blue one ( I'm not impressed with the build quality of them vs the black ones) so for my 13 Legacy 3.6 R Limited I run the Subaru part # 15208AA031, its a bigger filter in length.
If you already have a Fumoto Valve with a nipple, it would make sense to put a hose on it. It'll keep your hands clean. I guess the 2015's don't have the large plastic guard on the bottom of the car. Fumoto actually makes a plastic clip if you're that worried about the valve opening itself. I've never had the valve open itself even when driving off-road. I suspect your tires would pop before your valve opened itself.
+Bicycle Crossroads true. ill use a hose next time
3/16" diameter tubing works well.
Did you use the Fumoto crush ring or something else?
whatever came with it. the fiber one.
The forester have a 440w Amp. Might be different than the wrx
I was shocked to see you install the filter with oil in it while the old oil was still draining. Not only is there a chance of losing new oil, I'm guessing that closing the filter opening would slow the draining down... no?
you are prob right brofessor. opps. but you forgot the filter has a spring valve to hold in the oil..
Hows the car going? Its been a while, whens the next oil change due?
funny you should ask. im gathering the oil supplies now. it has 14,575 miles. i do it every 5000, tho it prob isnt needed until every 6000-7000.
Looking forward to seeing the video.
why Fumoto Valve is needed?

here's the spec for the Forester speakers
+Kevin Mai thanks bro, ill check it out now. after i made the video i think i remembered the Forester XT has no dedicated subwoofer. so ill click that link now and find out if i was right. that being said, if it doesn't.. man it has better sub than my WRX...
+LastHumansGarage Forester 4x 80mm mid range, 2 6x9 woofers, 2 x 160mm midwoofer and thats it.
WRX/STI 2 x 80mm midrange, 2 x 100mm midrange with 25mm tweeter 2-way speaker, 2 x 160mm midwoofer, 1 x 200mm DVC Subwoofer
damn VW commercials appearing in front of my videos.. maybe they know my history..
