One more comment: 1) I see the low tucked turns Simone does now! 2) bars was nuts. I am glad some of that have changed. Though it is fun seeing the basket move, I used to do that in middle school. 3) the floor routines were really fun to watch! And we have to remember they didn’t have a spring floor!
I like the dance element of the time. The routines were prettier. I wish they would bring some of that back and combine it with the powerhouse moves they do today. That would be something incredible.
🤔I still remember my first compulsory routines from the early 80's and they were referred to as class vs. level as they are today and you had to score a 32.00 or higher competing USGF to advance to the next class...I do recall a spring board just like these shown before springs were added followed by one that used air compression and we loved that one...we also didn't have a floor with springs, just a mat we pulled out and unfolded to tumble on, and we had to set everything up and take it down every day for practice...our bars were set close like they are shown here...oh yeah, that floor routine music is forever burned into my brain!!! The arthritis is evident all over.🙃
I just loved both Larisa! Petrik had a super solid BB routine for that era, sadly, she just got a bronze medal for that exercise!, the same happened to Dudnik with her super BB routine in 1989(Well, she got the silver medal there). Latynina on floor was amazing, she had good rhythm, interpretation, her routine was so dynamic, I understand why she won a lot of medals in that apparatus. She was flawless!
Do the parallel bars distance between each other were smaller at that time? I see the gymnast were able to maneuvers their legs with smaller range than now.
The balletic beauty of these performances is truly breathtaking. Vera Caslavska was absolutely beautiful to see in these clips. Thanks for sharing.
Love you, Vera! Rest In Peace🙏💕💐
So beautiful to watch. . Modern gymnastics are fine but this is something else imo..

God I love Vera's UB mount!!

Acutal women in women's gymnastics! Lovely. :)
Thank you for posting this. As a gymnastics fan, I appreciate seeing how the sport has evolved.
That sideways vault landing looks hard even today!
Wouldn't it be a blast for some of us old heads to train and compete routines like these !!!

@@faukerconsulting835 That is a great story. Would love to hear more.
Thank you!
Eventough it is simple when compared to modern gymnastics, I could not perform like them.
The hair style of women at that time that time is so beautiful.

Petrik was the most overrated gymnast of the entire SOV team of the era. There is NO comparison to the brilliant genius Dudnik!
who is on beam at 4:25? she's wonderful!!
When the beam had just 8 centimeters.
...and was solid oak, no leather, no spring. I don't see any of these competitors having balance checks, much less falling.
Another world. 🌎

Note how tall these female gymnasts are.
oh well...Latynina and Caslavska had the same height, 5'3...Petrik was 5'4...it's not like they were 5'7 or 5'8 or 5'9...
@@user-vq6iw5vl8o News flash: most gymnasts now are 5'1'' or under.
@@genlyai5055 I think they're smaller than the past because it helps them do balance well on beam.
Korbut was 4 ft 11. Retton was 4ft 11 also. Brake drugs stunt growth.
The bent legs on bars are not pretty to look at but the dancing on floor is lovely.
But the bent legs were inevitably followed up by absolutely elegant, expressive moves with the body fully extended!

I can translate the French language. It will take some time.

Nikki Spark
Zlobu a závist cítím z vašich komentářů, ne z vystoupení Věry Čáslavské!
Latynina so boring and simplistic exercises. In that era being a soviet was just a half of path.
Caslavska all exercises done with errors and they were less complex. Her gold medals are unfair.
