  • Just a look at my twin 34XBR960s. Excellent image quality and motion resolution and black levels that only top OLEDs can dream of Showcasing Xbox 360 and PS3 KOFXIII in 1080i via component video output due to lower input delay

    I might be picking up an XBR960 this Friday. We'll see how it stacks up!

    Component looks better because it sends more color information.
    The signal must eventually convert to analogue when it hits the neckboard of the CRT anyway.

    Computer crts have much more in resolution but these have the size. If you are lucky to have Multi sync monitor you really can send just about anything to it.

      computer crts have a higher resolution? I just snagged a Lacie Blue Electron IV, and I can't wait to give it a shot!

      @@TravisLohmannMusic At the least they can have more lines, though the horizontal resolution may be less than 1920 except on higher end monitors. They are progressive multi-scan so basically anything looks like native resolution. Only problem is they can't do 240p. The problem with HDTV CRTs is that they are 1080i and scale everything to that. I don't know why they can't do 1080p or just scan at 480p, 720p etc. Wonder if the electronics could be gutted somewhat to eliminate the conversion and just go to direct control of the electron guns.

    Nice video! I have 2 XBR960s myself; one that I use, and a backup in storage. (These 960s are fun to move huh? lol) I would love to see your calibration video. Another great HD consumer CRT to keep your eye out for is the KD-36XS955. The XS955 is a super fine pitch 4:3 tube, which is great for those 480p 6th gen games that don't support 16:9, so you get the extra screen size for a 4:3 aspect ratio. Happy New Year! : )

      @@realamericannegro977 No, specifically the KD-36XS955 is a 36" 4:3 aspect ratio HD CRT. It does however have the option to letterbox for widescreen content.

      @@VIRTUALBOY and I shall make sure to invest in widescreen stuff later. It seems like 4:3 is best on stuff like that.

    • @VIRTUALBOY
      @VIRTUALBOY Před 3 lety

      @@realamericannegro977 You can also set the XBR 960 to display 4:3 content correctly, so its a great all around HD CRT

    Component looks better because it meshes with the analog nature of CRT. The analogue signal basically controls the electron gun (make sure you turn off as many processing steps as possible). Games on shitty hardware like 360 and PS3 with frame rate dips will look fine on CRT, it's like Variable Refresh Rate which you are only just starting to see in the most expensive flat panel TVs now.

    hey Bahn! I just picked up a 34XS955 yesterday. Any advice on managing different console resolutions? I intend on using the set mostly for PS3 and Switch but the Nintendo Switch doesn't output 540p or 1080p.

    • @BahnYuki
      @BahnYuki  Před 2 lety

      Depends on your goal. I only send 1080i/540p resolutions

  • @ghettosteeve
    @ghettosteeve Před 4 lety +2

    This is a great crt specifically for console generations that support its native resolution, but it is hard to see it as a holy grail of CRTs, as it is a digital set with a fixed resolution that introduces scaling and lag where other CRTs wouldn’t.

    • @BahnYuki
      @BahnYuki  Před 4 lety +2

      Best thing to do is send it a 1080i signal and you get lagless gaming. The OSSC Pro will be able to output 1080i and I'll be using it in conjunction with these wonderful displays

    • @NoSpamForYou
      @NoSpamForYou Před 2 lety

      Wonder if the processor could be bypassed and take direct control of the electron guns. I would guess that these were made as 1080i because that is what DirecTV, Dish and HD cable were broadcasting in the beginning. Or they just cheaped out on components.

    How does it compare to the XBR970?

    • @BahnYuki
      @BahnYuki  Před 5 lety +1

      The 970 has the same interface and similar color but falls in resolution. The 910 is closer to the 960 and has better audio. Being DVI only isn't really a hindrance since you can get an HDmi such that seperates the analog audio
