    DISCLAIMER: Entering the service menu on an OLED TV may void your warranty. The following instructions are provided for educational purposes only. Any service menu access or settings changes are done entirely at your own risk, and we cannot be held accountable or liable for the consequences of your action.
    To enter the service menu on LG OLED TVs, you'll have to use a service remote. Here's one from Amazon that works*: geni.us/lgservice
    The 4-digit code to access LG's service menu is 0413.
    To enter the service menu on Samsung OLED TVs, you'll need a traditional remote (not the Smart remote). If your TV doesn't come with a traditional remote, you can buy one from Amazon here*: geni.us/samsungremote
    Instructions to enter the service menu on Samsung OLED:
    ==============================================
    - Point your traditional remote directly at the infrared sensor on the TV.
    - While the TV is on, press [Mute], [1], [1], [9], [OK], [OK] on the remote control, which will open the Hospitality Menu.
    - Press [1], [2], [3], [4] to enter the service menu without resetting your regular menu settings.

    That APL issued should be resolved through a firmware update. These are very expensive premium TVs and having the image quality degrade to such a poor level is unacceptable at this price level. Why should you have to void your warranty to watch a show as intended.

      You may thank Samsung for overly hyping the "OLED burn in" issue since 2018 ... resulting in about every second post in comment sections was about OLEDs "massive" ... lol ... risk for burn in ... plus all these users cutting off the power supply after having the tv switched off resulting in the "pixel refresher" wasn't able to do it's job.
      Now all OEMs are extremely anxious and cautious and trying to avoid "burn in" by any means.

It is there for user experience and pushing superior image quality past predefined boundaries. @ChrisJ Fox kind of but it's better than taking a chance on bricking your tv or even worse, having a TV breakdown under warranty but then when they come to repair it the service man finds you tampered with the technician menu and then relay that to LG and then they deny to cover your tv repair cost! Remember, the ABL is only bad if you have a super dark scene that lasts for more than a couple of minutes. As soon as the scene changes to a brighter one, ABL will raise back to normal. On my TV I've only had bad ABL twice and I've had my TV for nearly 2 years now. So this problem is very rare and fixes itself quickly when the scene changes as I mentioned above. Far from a deal breaker. I love my CX!

While watching 4k HDR content such as Sandman, the Crown and Emily in Paris, the content does not auto dim after a few minutes but is always noticeably dimmer/darker than it should be. I also have a QN75Q6FNAF (4K QLED) which does not have this problem. It's pretty annoying - good when I forget to shut the TV off and it sits there at the menu of my media player, but bad when you're watching a show that has some static-ish content for a few minutes and it starts to dim. Dimming a scene to this extent just because of static APL isn't gonna do much for the longevity of the panel, but it'll make the displayed content unwatchable. I have A TCL QLED 4K 55 inches. It is fantastic in terms of picture and even sound. The I'm facing with dimming appears when using Netflix.
    It appears immediately after loading the movie or episode once the Dolby logo appears at the top left of the screen. I have turned off all adaptive screen settings and it still works and the screen keeps dimming and brightening. There no settings in Netflix to turn dolby picture off.
    Is there an advice for a solution.

    I posted a few months ago that I didn't have the dimming problems. After watching Dune and recently Vesper, the problem was so blatant that it made film scenes unwatchable. This is clearly a defect. I own a LG C8 and will getting into the service menu soon to fix it.

    Would this work on LG QLED TV 86QNED996PB?
    Images randomly get dim and bright in dark scenes keeps doing it. Will I need that special remote for it too?

    I am still trying to figure out the grainy look on some areas of a scene. Usually it occurs with scenes that have been enhances with HDR or non-HDR scenes that use dynamic shading to simulate a lighting reflection effect.
    One example, for Metroid Dread owners, areas that have simulated lighting and dust shimmering, it can get very grainy in those spots while the rest of the picture looks fantastic.
    Another example, for One Piece fans, when Eustass Kid uses his Devil Fruit power in the Wano Arc, represented by a magnetic field apecial effect. The dynamic special effect turns into a transparent veil of graininess, while areas not covered in the effect appear fine.
    One more example of this graininess is when watching Zack Snyder’s Justice League from a 4k BR disc. Some scenes look sharp, then the lighting changes and the image quality it switches to High Grain Mode.

      Update: No solution. I just lived with it, unfortunately. Apparently it’s an artifact from the LED array going bananas trying to transition from one state to another on scenes that display dynamic shading.

      That I believe is a defect. Call for warranty service if you bought extended warranty. If not, call LG. They will usually replace the panel for free one time even out of warranty. Their customer service is excellent!

    I have the LG CX OLED and have seen this happen, especially while playing Diablo 3 and certain movies like Harry Potter. It can be annoying in the game as I would have to open menus or such to get the image brightness back to the correct level.

    Vincent- Can you clarify on GSR? I think a lot of us are unclear about how to handle this setting as gamers. If I flip this off in the service menu, but still use logo dimming in the regular TV settings, will it still dim the static logo images without dimming the whole screen? If so I would love to turn this on. If not it seems it would be putting my TV in severe risk of burn in by disabling. I just don’t want to make the wrong choice here. Thanks so much for your always excellent videos! 🙌

      Yeah I'm wondering this too, though I feel like if a game is modern enough to have HDR chances are it's modern enough to make the static parts semi-transparent, or even having an auto-setting that makes the HUD disappear if it's not needed (like Elden Ring). And if a game is in SDR, would it even be bright enough to carry much of a risk?

    • @iknowyounot88
      @iknowyounot88 Před rokem +4

      So I'm pretty sure it only removes the global dimming while maintaining local dimming of static images. Don't quote me, but I'm pretty sure that's what Ive seen on Reddit. I'm actually about to test this rn, so I'll report back. Currently watching UFC so I got plenty of static images to test 😂

    The TV / Monitor industry still can't solve the HDR heating issues, while we know where that issue is mostly coming from.
    We all clearly see they are pushing for thin models while they could add a layer of heat dissipation instead.

    • @marcuscole8796
      @marcuscole8796 Před rokem +4

      @@ezilka A real heatsink is not required as it isn't a "high temperature issue" but an "uneven temperature" issue.
      A thick(er) metallic plate does the job here perfectly ... the required function is a "heatspreader" here (levelling out hot spots as fast as possible) ... similar to what was used on former PC CPUs.
      But I agree, to even reducing the entire temperature level of the panel I would also except having the panels thicker than these 5mm and equipped with cooling fins :-)

    • @ezilka
      @ezilka Před rokem +2

      @@marcuscole8796 real heatsink should improve ABL, because if ALL screen is very bright - it generates alot of heat. And it prolongs live of oled pixels if they not get hot.

    • @marcuscole8796
      @marcuscole8796 Před rokem +3

      @@ezilka Yes, I fully agree ... for ABL it would noticeably help having increased cooling capacity for the entire screen.
      Nevertheless as from my point of view (ABL is not so much an issue for me) ... they should start with getting a heatspreader installed in every OLED tv ... like A90J, G2 and the JZ2000/1500.
      This heatspreader already allows for reduced temporary image retention, reduced burn in risk, increased longevity and last but not least for 25% higher peak brightness ... as can be seen on Panasonic tvs from 2019 GZ2000 onwards and also the LG G2.
      Plus it seems the heatspreader already helps with ABL because the G2 is less aggressive regarding ABL than e.g. the C2.
