Touching on the graffiti writers being tattooists,
I often think it's odd when a tattooist who was never a writer attempts to do a "graffiti" tattoo, usually pretty easy to tell the difference in the design.
Graffiti writers: Yo, check my new piece, you can barely read it!

The claim 'debunked' was the Graffiti originated out of the hip hop culture. That much is false, it was INTEGRATED into the Hip-hop culture, and largely predates it.
@@purga1563 lot of modern graffiti can be traced back to hip hop in the 80's though. Ofcourse writing on walls is as old as time but a lot of stylistic conventions and technical basics still used today were pretty much founded in the 80's hip hop culture.
@@zwenkwiel816 70s Graffiti laid the real groundwork. Tagging, which evolved into throwies, which evolved into pieces. The evolution was always going to happen from the seeds planted even back in the 60s, hip hop INFLUENCING the evolution of the EXTANT artform, doesn't make graffiti "traceable back to hip hop."
@@purga1563 who still tags like they did in the 60's though? Ofcourse it's always an evolution and it's not like graffiti is inherently tied to hip hop but a lot of modern graffiti has its origin in 80's hip hop culture. Everything from straight letters to throw ups and wildstyles originate in that Era. Lot of techniques like force fields highlights and colorful backgrounds were first done back then (basically the fundamentals of what is a tag, piece or throw up were defined in that era)

I never got caught, but there were moments when (mostly old people) just called the Police cause they saw me walking under a Bridge at Night even if I did nothing yet. It's like they can smell if you are a weiter or not (what tf do old people under a Bridge at 2 am?!)

I mean graffiti is one of the main elements of hip-hop but also the general idea of illegally writing your name extends longer than that culture.
However I do believe it's around that time that it truly became graffiti as we know it today today

yes. here in Hamburg, Germany, we have 2 clubs in the 2nd division and one crew always destroys the other crews pieces and vice-versa, as I am a retired writer, its fun to watch who stroke again, and how they are getting better in the process. nowadays some of their pieces are really not bad...and maybe writing is some form of relaxing from the hard work of hooliganism they have to do all the weekend 💥🤕🤛
