Not being a hater but since you tell people whats in and whats out. I have too say your eyeglasses are out. They are to big for your face and the way the design goes it looks as though they are are part of you eyebrows. Just a helpful tip. I see these frames on a lot of woman and they cover their whole face and are not flattering at all.

A necessary evil imo. I have neck and spine issues and need seating with good, adjustable support. It’s a compromise I have to make. Otherwise I would have to spend more time laying down and away from my family to give my neck a break. The trick is to find something that looks pretty good (we got a custom leather one) and then maybe the rest of the decor camouflages it enough that it doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb. But in the end if you can’t be comfortable and relax in your living spaces then there’s no point in having them. Thankfully there are many options today besides the behemoth textured cloth recliners of the 80s. (PS I love you Lisa, I know you weren’t coming at me lol)

I highly recommend not using any material that requires grouting, or soft rock like marble, around the sink and stove. It’s impossible to keep grout clean and marble can’t take vigorous cleaning, scratches and stains. After one bubbling pot of pasta sauce, the backsplash will have zits forever.

While those might feel comfy, they are the opposite of what a back with disc issues needs. It will delay healing actually. My husband broke his back in 3 places and the technician who designed his brace told him to buy a firm upright chair with arms on it, sit in it with feet on the floor. He did so religiously and within 2 months those fractures healed beautifully-the x ray doesn't lie.

Don’t really understand the point about thrifting. Is it really a “trend” to buy things you like at the thrift store? If so, it’s a much better trend than over-buying at a regular retail store! Besides I think what should be “over” is chalk-painting farmhouse white or gray over gorgeous wood grain! (Also I 1000% prefer the “cabinet” in turquoise to that dead gray.)

@@Ircar47 the irony is 20 or 30 years into the future people will look at these pieces "that's such a 2020 color!" And "why did they feel like repainting everything back then?" Ok, the 2020 colors might be really trendy at that point, who knows, but anyway we're doing a lot of the same mistakes that we've accused people in the 60's and 70's of doing. Like destroying old houses and apartments by "modernizing" everything.
We happen to have an antique kitchen cabinet that was painted orange in the 70's. We painted it eggplant color in 2010 to make it fit our style better, but it's really sad the original paint is long gone. I suspect it might have even had some folk art decorations, but the 70's was what it was.

I replaced the orange Edison bulbs in the kitchen pendants with ones that are the same style, but clear. Hobby Lobby has a good selection of metal hangers, but none work with the more modern vibe of my kitchen. Also, both of the hangers I need will be for two corner spaces where I'm taking out cabinets to facilitate clear views out the kitchen window from the living room, so the hangers cannot protrude out from the walls much more than what it takes to give the pots room. I'm thinking to go with hooks in the ceiling, but then, the question becomes what to put on the hooks to hang the pots. Maybe there's a macrame alternative, like a hanging basket on a chain that has a transitional vibe. I want something that looks high end chic, not cheap and chintzy. Thank you for the stab at it.

Lisa, I was in a house of people who are Uber minimalists and the home was styled in this fashion. However they made an area in the unfinished basement for their kids to do homework and have their toys. I felt very sad that kids are not allowed to enjoy their rooms because they have to look a certain way and instead go to the dungeon for schoolwork and play. I am disgusted by those Uber minimalists. Another thing their rooms had no window treatments. It would be impossible for me to sleep like that. Everything in that house looked like fancy jail. But one with no traces of life.

I remember when macrame came out in the 1970's. I believe it was explained that it was originally created by sailors many years ago who would weave it on ships. Kind of like wood carving with a knife. We did macrame in an art class in high school. I always thought it looked DIRTY !

Uber minimalism: I personally like things on the sparse side, but homes should be homey and not prevent visitors from relaxing. Books, flowers, cushions, throws and some well-chosen accessories make a home inviting. I don’t want my guests to stress about setting a drink down or putting their feet up, that’s not welcoming. Just banish the ugly clutter from your home and it will look great.

We love our leather recliner, it fits well in our space. I let hubby pick out so if he didn’t like it I wasn’t to blame, lol!
I on the other hand am not fond of the new furniture being offered right now. Have a hard time mixing new with the old. Could not afford to change it all over at once. Would love a lesson from you on that! Thanks for your videos!

Awesome video!! Oh no !! Not the peel and stick!! LOL!! Actually it's a perfect solution for renters. But for your owned home, nope!! Edison bulbs are for steam punk, which is where they should stay! I still miss a few of the old southwest pieces! But mostly, it's the Japandi style for me!

Thank you for the great tips, Lisa, I love your energy! Agreed, don't know why we need signs declaring "kitchen", "beach house", etc. I confess that there are a few Primitives by Kathy wooden box signs that I still love; I sneak them in here and there because they have personal meaning. I like mixing old with the new!

Your comment reminds me: When I was a preteen I painted my bedroom triumph blue, created 3D letters that spelled “book”, “bed”, “desk”, etc. and put them on the walls. I painted all my furniture white and silver and it looked so spacey. I thought it was the coolest thing ever. 😄 But that was the 1990s, and my tastes have changed somewhat!

I am not sure about the meaning of term Edison bulbs, but these glass filament bulbs come in all K from 2200 to 4000 and up to 1200lm. I like to use the 3000K filament bulbs in glass pendant lights that make the bulb visible. I would ban usage of cheap plastic LED bulbs in places where they should not bee seen!

As a lighting expert, you can still get the feel of the Edison style filament lamps in 3000k and are more usable. I personally dislike when designers specify a clear glass pendant, because you can never keep them clean, but those that have them need a clear filament lamp in a cooler kelvin temp to make them useable.
However, Edison lamps in 24k look amazing on a porch or outdoor setting. Warm and inviting. Indoors, they can only be an accent or the light you have on while watching tv.
Thanks for your videos, you keep it real and I love your vids.
