    There is no comp to JJ. No other QB went 27-1 as a starter, threw the ball 61 MPH (3rd fastest ever at the combine), and ran a 4.58 40... and never played a down over age 20. He is more polished than Maye, and he is younger. He had won at least 6 games bigger than Maye has ever played in. He has every physical attribute to be a starter that Maye has, but he also has a mile long resume of proven results. And for those that think he did not throw... Maye completed 269 passes last year. JJ completed 240. Is that massively different?

      @@jerseybaby100He actually ran a reported 4.48 in Michigan’s spring camp. The 4.58 is a projection as he didn’t run one at his Pro Day or the Combine.

      Damn he blew the combine up

    JJ can go off-script, positively, as well or better than any other 21 year old. And, his football intellect is elite-along with his ability and willingness to be instructed.

    To me the best comps would be a stronger armed geno smith or Brock purdy and the ceiling would be a less surgical Joe burrow. I would gladly take any of that obviously lol

      Why doesn't anyone say Tom Brady. Tom was never Uber talented.

      @@user-uc7dc2dd4qBecause McCarthy is much more athletic than Brady. I agree with the mental and leadership comp though.

    I believe JJ has the lowest chance of busting of all of the QBs taken this year.

    Boy the way you describe JJ with the way he needs to learn to put more touch on passes and the YOLO attitude I can't help but think of the old gunslinger from Hattiesburg and we're talking 22 year old just traded from ATL ater 1 season Brett not 26 year old MVP Brett.

    McCarthy played in Harbaugh’s pro offense against a pro defense in practice every single day at Michigan. How many NFL draft picks on the defense? All of them?

    High end McCarthy is more athletic Terry Bradshaw middle finish he is more mobile Kirk cousins low end he is Jeff George. Also as I Vikings fan he was Qb and I wanted in draft with penix 2 and maye 3

    Maye vs McCarthy - Maye had no protection and poor run game. Maye was also asked to throw a lot because he was the NC offense. Almost impossible to fairly assess Maye with that offensive line. I can't imagine what JJ would like if he was forced to carry his team with his right arm and no protection. My guess is it would not be pretty.

    • @intrepidfool
      @intrepidfool Před 24 dny

      No. McCarthy has IT. Maye doesn't. McCarthy would have won more games at NC than Maye. On the other hand, Michigan loses 2-3 games with Maye. You simply cannot win at an elite level with a guy that crumbles under pressure. Maye looks the part. The wiki entry for NFL QB should have his picture. But he lacks the emotional and mental makeup, the leadership and intangibles, to ever be more than a guy that looks the part. Elite QBs perform at a high level even when the situation is difficult. McCarthy was under pressure as much as Maye and performed head and shoulders better than Maye in those situations. His YPA are basically unaffected and he completed 63% of his passes under pressure. He was amazing in 3rd and medium and 3rd and long situations. Maye was terrible with all of that. His YPA plummeted to 4.8 as a checkdown king while only completed 43% of his passes when pressured. He had 2-3 WTF passes per game where you just don't know what the heck he was doing. Maye looks great in the underwear Olympics. Actually playing QB though? I'll take McCarthy 10/10.

      @@intrepidfool just know KOC does not agree with you. KOC offered 3 firsts for Maye and New England said No Deal! Vikes passed on JJ at pks 4,5,6,7,8,9 Then took JJ as the last of the top 5 QBs left in this draft. QBs are a tough evaluation in every draft. I’m just glad KOC got McCarthy for 1 first.

    Is a JJ comp a non-asshole Aaron Rodgers? Strong arm, smart, accurate, athletic, minor mechanical fixes to make...maybe?
