      @@bensonbright I'd put Karn up there with Jaco Pastorius for pioneering a distinctive, original sound on electric bass. You hear Jaco or Mick Karn and you recognize their personal bass sound immediately. I agree Bona is infinitely talented, but I can't always recognize him.

    • @bensonbright
      @bensonbright Před rokem +1

      @@completeMonti I'd agree with you almost entirely but for the body of work that Jaco , Stanley Clarke, Richard Bona and Paticucci have behind them . Karn sounds similar to Jaco and maybe should have got the Weather report job after him . Even the Pat Metheny group would have been good for him or Wayne shorter. . Did he ever play with McLaughlin?

    I remember reading a magazine article shortly after this was shown on TV. In it Mick said that Angie had asked him to perform bass to her poetry. He'd had little or no advanced warning and the BBC had taken his bass away in the morning, so he couldn't rehearse until shortly before the show went on air. That makes his performance even more remarkable! In his book he reveals he and Angie were at one time lovers, so he couldn't say no really!

      Carly Simon and Annie Lenox are two musicians that I absolutely love..........I have for decades.........so when I came across this, I found absolutely nothing about her that resonates with the talent of either one of them........I don't see where she feels that she has any musical talent at all.........when I watch her, it seems as if she thinks she's "adorable".......well, that still doesn't carry over to musical talent.......it only makes her look foolish and downright awful IMHO..........she might have originally married a musician, but I don't know how she got the notion that she could be one also..........I've read she had skills in marketing and economics.........I don't know what led her to the stage ?ego perhaps.........she was cute early in her marriage to DB, but she seems to have tried to "push" herself into a field where she had no talent.........as a singer/dancer..........it makes her unattractive and to me, downright ridiculous if she can't see how bad her music was

    I highly recommend the japan 1974-84 biography 'A Foreign Place' by Anthony Reynolds.

    I saw a once in a lifetime performance by Angie Bowie and Chick Cashman today in Tucson. She's rocking to this day!

      I remember reading that his first bass had really high action and that is how he developed his style.

      Actually Yoko is a great artist far more talented than her (extremely overrated) ex-husband John.

      @@liv0003 if artistic talent is having an (extremely overated) ex husband, then indeed she is one of the greats.
