    Right now my pump is pumping down outside my boiler and back up through. I'm pretty sure this was the proper install from the early 1990's? It is a Grundfos pump and I purchased another new model like in this video. A UP15 /3 speed.
    You mention that a proper air vent is installed before the pump? I'm not sure if I have had any issues with that or if my older model is somewhat different than the new one? I only have an air vent close on top of the boiler upstream.
    Thanks Mike

    Is a loud metal humming a normal noise, from time to time normal?
    Or is this a sign that its close to needing to be replaced?

    I'm confused,, if installed in the horizontal position, the motor would be hanging below the path of the water? Looking like a full filter hanging on a diesel engine, correct?
    Thanks

    I have the shaft at the correct horizontal position with control box on the bottom as it won’t fit the space if positioned on the top. I know this is not the recommended position but what is the “downside” of mounting the control box on the bottom?

    What is air locked? My plumber replaced my pump in a floor heating zone and it fixed the heat. But I hooked up the pump on a bench & it turned fine. I'm confused

    • @Soknik01
      @Soknik01 Před 5 lety

      Air locking is when a bubble of air accumulates at the high point in a water line. Depending on the configuration of the plumbing the air bubble can sometimes require more force to flush out than can be created by a recirculating pump.

    So... Me moved into a condo that has a UP-15 and it doesn't circulate. It's spinning and not stuck, I've bled the system fully and can't think of anything else! I can get it to pump hot water for about a minute if I "jump" start the flow by opening the service valve located directly below the pump which I hook up to a garden hose to run outside. The second I feel the line get hot, I close the valve and then reopen the zone valve which is immediately after that service valve. The pipes start to quickly get hot and then about a minute later, they start to cool again.
    Now.. I will say that the pump is plumbed going down. Not up. So... I guess it doesn't work that way? I've bled every bit of air out so it can't be air locking?!?!

    • @PEXUniverse
      @PEXUniverse  Před 3 lety

      We'd recommend that you have a licensed plumber take a look at it but it sounds like you circulator pump is installed backwards, which is why the flow is being affected.

      Reduce the temperature on your water heater. There should be a dial you can turn

    Finding that Grundfos and Watts pumps that look similar....actually they look identical (except for color)....yet Grundfos costs 1.5- 3X as much as Watts. I don't mind spending extra if I get a better machine....but I hate being a marketing-stooge. Can you comment?..... as I see Grundfos labeling also on the Watts brand. Example.... besthotwaterrecirculators.com/watts-500800-vs-grundfos-595916/ This brings up another point. Sometimes anything purchased that costs more money is automatically assumed to be "better"....when (at times) all you are getting is the same junk only with longer warranties for the more expensive piece. Are we talking the same thing here? Same question also for the cross-over valve that is placed under the sink.....are there others besides Grundfos and Watts that make these....seems "no".
