I enjoyed Blight league, but it wasn't the most popular at the time it came out. It's a great example of the big swings that POE is willing to take with it's seasons. It's not adding a couple bosses or a couple items. It's a crazy new mechanic that's like nothing else in the game. Some times they're misses, and some times they're home runs. But sometimes they're neither and they appeal to a niche audience - which results in a game that has a TON of fun niches in it.

When it comes to more stuff to kill its Delirium, which all you need to do is go through a magic mirror and it overlaps with everything else you are doing by buffing and making a bunch of creatures come after you.
When it comes to something complex tho, Delve is by far my favourite. You basically go down in this mine and take this minecart to ore viens and to fight creatures of the dark. There the darkness is a mechanic that can kill you so you have to stay close to light sources and you can basically tunnel your way to specific rewards there with it scaling infinitely as the deeper you go, the stronger everything is but the better the riches.

I think one could sum up POE vs D4 like this...D4 is all about progression of the game with your character, where POE is all about progression of your character with the game. In other words, the focus in POE is your character. Build diversity is where it's at. It's like a box full of Legos and you have to make something that works. And every time you change something it changes something else that you then have to factor into the build. It's much more than roll playing.

Blight is a very good option if you build is bricked in one way or another, as it still let's you farm currency for upgrades or a completely new build. It's also quite similar to how a lot of experienced players does their league start, the starting character is just there to gain the currency to play the "final" build on another character.

The third party program part was initially also annoying for me before I understood how easy it actually is to do, and PoB is not necessary imo, I only started using it late into my journey... but it definitely feels required after a while when you understand the importance of trade..
Funnily enough after a while I wanted to play ssf (at the point I felt comfy in doing my own basic builds) and escaping the trade, just to now come back to trade a few leagues later..
PoE is a whole ass ride that lets you easily take breaks from the game, and then just return next league / a few leagues later and feel like your building on top of the game knowledge you accumulated in the past.

Played since beta and love POE but one thing I really wish they would rework is being able to easily reset more of your tree cheaply. A lot of the modern ARPG have cheap if not free ability to just reset and change. So you can easily fix your build. They do have tokens to reset individual points of course but they can add up if you try to reset major portions of the tree. Once upon a time they used to give a reset token that just reset the whole tree and you get all the points to spend again. One awesome suggestion I would make is if they gave us ONE of those tokens when you finish the campaign. SO you could level your character one way, then reset the whole thing to make an end game build after you have farmed enough equipment to support it. But that is just me.... PS LOVE the channel and your personality just fits what I like about streamers and will watch whatever game you migrate to. Keep up the good work!

    • @NoName-mi8js
      @NoName-mi8js Před rokem +2

Easy respecs destroys character identity and makes the replayability worse. It's one of the reason why "modern ARPGs" aren't as good. Getting a free respec when you finish the campaign sounds good, but would result in degenerate gameplay. You'd just use the meta leveling build, and then switch over for free. That makes leveling pointless. You are supposed to level WITH your build, or at least work towards it as you level. Leveling is not just a 10 hours "get it over with so you can play the game" waste of time. It's a challenge and a time to learn your build.
They ONLY give out 1 time resets at league restarts when they change the passive tree. Because obviously, your character cannot have the same passive tree when the passive tree changes.

I'm happy that you're over the hump and are having so much fun.
That is a problem PoE has always struggled with - being accessible to beginners without turning them away.
Ironically this is often assumed to be because of the giant skill tree meme, but the real issues are what you mentioned.. reliance on 3rd party programs, complexities with building a functional character without a template, and also learning how certain stats work and scale. All of these are much bigger readblocks to beginners having fun than the giant skill tree ever was.
I know GGG wants to solve these problems, and they've tried things in the past, but they have committed to not watering down any aspect of the game just to lower the barrier for entry.
I do respect their commitment to this, they are always trying new techniques to make it easier to get into. I'm sure they will be trying new things in PoE2 as well to reduce these requirements.

Ill say this. Its not that the barrier to entry is high. It really boils down to just people wanting you to save time.
You can play this game solo. No trading. Blind. With no guides. And figure everything out on your own.
however it will take a very long time and you might have to start a few new characters or farm regret orbs to fix your build.
What it really is is just that people want to save you as much time as possible because we know how long it can take.
When you first play the game. The best way is to follow a guide and try to learn why things work and how to make your own builds from that.
Not because you cant do it on your own. But because sharing knowledge and empowering each other is the most basic human survival tool.
Working together to share our builds and ideas and guides to push forward together is the best part of poe. You look at someones build and go "Woah thats a cool idea i want to try that"
"Wow ok so that can help my build but maybe not that part"
"Oh ok thats better for me than this"
And slowly youll grow into your own special flower that makes builds the way you want built off the hard work others put into the game for you.
and one day maybe someone will look at your build guide and go "Oh thats so useful! Upvote"

I really love tower defense games as well, blight league was fun. As you found the little blight challenges in non blighted maps, those were effectivelly all over the place from the first zone you entered. Which is another great thing about PoE, every league introduces a new mechanic, that's kind of the focus and you start experiencing it right at the start of the game, you don't have to wait till the end-game. And if you do make it to the end-game it just builds on itself and gives you more of it in something bigger, like the full blighted maps where it's just that, the mode, nothing else.
PoE is phenomenal, it's also a bit daunting to get into, but if you do invest the time and learn it, it's some of the best ARPG gaming you can have today.

I do hope that you continue to be part of our community as we need fresh creators such as you!
Really fair review, as someone who has played the game for the majority of it's leagues. I do agree that the place you can find negatives in PoE are in it's UI and the reliance on the goodwill of people from the community to the degree that it'd be someone unplayable if certain tools dissapeared.
Regarding price checking an alternative is to use priced tabs instead of looking at each item. If you dump all your stuff from today in a tab at say 50c, then have a few tabs in falling value order that you rotate you don't have to manually check something if you get spammed for it (since it was probably worth more then) This way you don't have to manually check each item. just buy some tabs enough that you can have a entry point falling down to the lowest price you consider worth stopping to trade for.

    • @Sicknificant1
      @Sicknificant1 Před rokem

That is a very valid stance to have. I think the main issue is just conflicting game interests.
Often most people i know that are getting into PoE are being brought into it by friends, and this causes a feeling of needing to rush to catch up... but i tell my friends to takw their time and enjoy the game. The goal is to improve upon yourself and, most importantly, have fun.
That being said... the scaling increases from some Acts to others in the campaign are dramatic and many who attempt their own builds the first time around will fail to keep up with the games difficulty scaling. It'd be like showing up to play Magic the Gathering for the first time to a tournament with zero knowledge of the cards available to you but expecting to somehow build a deck capable of winning.
Another trap new players fall into is thinking there are obly like 10 viable startinf builds bc the youtubers all copypaate the same recommended top 10. Realistically there are many many viable builds.
Just depends on your goals. Is it to catch up and pkay with your friends or do you want to experience the game blindly at your own pace? Making a build that can even get through the campaigns as a new player is impressive and would exponentially increase ones understanding of the game, but could take more time and potentially result in bricking a character/playthrough.

I can help you re-level a new char or respec, but I can't give that "everything is new I'm just gonna tinker" bit back.
All I recommend is to go for a theme, and find stuff on the tree that does that, much like you did. You wanted to be a big blocky boi with shields. Perfect find those things. It might not wind up being the best build, but it will be -your- build. I've played since Piety in act 3 was the last boss of the game... and it's nice to see people give it a go like it's kind of those times where there weren't really many guides, just nerds looking to kill some mobs with a fireball or whatever.
Blight League, like many of the other leagues, are where Path of Exile has always shined. They usually make pretty impactful leagues, which don't always stay in the game, so they can try new ideas, and if they're fun, they stay. It's kind of why we're in a situation 12ish years later, of you and I can both be doing end-game content, farming whichever way makes sense for what we like (blight as well, but I like taking breaks from it) and what our builds are good at.
I also have never given it a 10/10. No game really gets that. There's always something that can be done better. The heavy dependency on 3rd party tools has always been PoE's biggest issue and will probably continue to be that way if we're honest. Also for those without money, you can certainly play the whole game for free, get to end-game and decide then if you want to "buy" the game with some stash tabs.
Glad you had fun with it, hope to see you around again sometime new exile!

My biggest issue with PoE is having to go outside of the game to trade or plan my build or do anything to figure out what I need to do inside the game. Just put it all IN the game. I've hated trade so much I pretty much only played ssf the last couple years. And I usually push only 1 char per season, get to mid tier maps and lvl 90 and get bored and go do something else. I have 1500 hours in this game and keep coming back to it. Thanks for showing us your path through the game. Inspired me to come back again and give it another run.

For Tanky chars Heist is also a really good content in PoE, since the main goal is to loot chests and the objective and then leave the area without dying.
Would say each run is worth around 10+ chaos (without divination cards since I don't know how to calculate the gain out of these and I found multiple that are traded for divines)
For Blueprints, prioise the unusual gem ones, would say one run of these is at 1-2 div at average (without divination cards).
I think tanky builds are great for the start, since you got content that is good to farm as a tanky build, also bosses don't kill you as fast as with a class-cannon build and you survive most mechanics of them while fighting longer fights, which is good for learning what they do and how to play them.

This was dope man, you should make a build for each mechanic. That would be really cool for tips or build videos. My advice for anyone who wants to check this out is do your own thing in softcore. Find your groove a playstyle you like maybe some mechanics before jumping into HC. Moving to HC to early will ruin your time because this game is very punishing and you will end up passing a lot of mechanics out of fear. Moving to HC to quick will push you to looking up builds and fking with Path of builder way to early and that's why things get annoying and very overwhelming and you will move on. I promise you DM's approach will be such a fun experience you will be laughing at Blizzard in a way you didn't think was possible. If you start on HC with your own build I promise you every boss will wipe the floor with you if you never seen the mechanics.

Running blight with your character is very smart, you can speed it up noticably with some of the oils and a stronger focus on your character clearing but its one of the only game mechanics that has a predetermined timer mostly negating your slow build, many long time players still fail to take advantage of the mechanics that best suit their built and feel like theyre tripping over their feet but doing what your character is best at is the way to have a rewarding experience and you can make characters that are specifically great at a certain mechanic for every mechanic.

Honestly you don't really need any of that stuff when you start out just play and have fun if You want to use a premade build one of the pros make sure Path of Building helps a ton but most of those builds have video build guides associated that make using a build possible without using PoB it's just easier to do using it. Great 100-hour review I love to see new players try out the game get into the game and decide it IS the game for them. This is exactly what I discovered all those years ago and still to this day think.

genuinely heartwarming to see someone new enter the community and fall in love with the game. I do agree about the tools being a necessity is a bit rough for new players. I usually recommend a build guide if someone is starting, just so they can learn other things within the game and have a great experience from the start. Zizaran makes some great guides for new players and hope to see more of you in coming over in the future leagues

Shield crush can get to pretty good dps with the unique shield Emperor's Vigilance and the unique jewel seething fury. Replica Dreamfeather scales damage off your armour and the way to get loads of armour is through auras, reservation efficiency so you can fit in more aura's and aura effect. I've been playing the build this league and am currently upto 11 million dps with over 400k armour.

Ancient PoE player here. Basically agree with everything you said.
The third party programs and websites for PoE are both one of its biggest strengths and its biggest curse. Even as someone who've played the game since closed beta and have north of 6k hours in the game the prep work to play the game feels like too much at times.
The tools also had an adverse effect on the game's design over the years, as we fine tuned our builds with tools GGG countered with more punishment for suboptimal play. In the beta days I played essentially solo self-found on hardcore with no planned out builds, and without major issues got to level 80 ish and yellow maps (very respectable progress back then.) Only reason I might be able to do the same thing now is my aforementioned 6k+ hours of playing, take those away and I would be destroyed hard trying the same.
That said, PoE is the game it is today because it goes toe to toe with the players essentially. It continually gets updated to add more ways to play, but also to make sure all those ways to play keep being somewhat challenging.
In the end I actually miss the tools PoE have when I try its competitors, I miss knowing EXACTLY what is going on with my build vs the game, knowing exactly what can be done and still having such insane depth to everything that even someone who played as much as I still can't keep all that information in mind across all of the myriad possibilities.
I think you took the perfect approach to play PoE as a newbie. To try find your niche.
We old farts and veterans like to act like everything has to be min/maxed and all possibilities exploited to their maximum, but one can do that in any game. few other games have the breadth of possibility which PoE have, and it is a much better thing to focus on as a new player, or when trying to attract new players.

Blight content mainly depends on damage and crowd controlling from the player because it have to get point for building turrets, unless the player have keystone passive called 'Cassia's Pride' for turrets' tons of damage but significantly reduces damage from player.

Yeah, I'm second thinking the advice that people keep telling new players they need to follow a guide. I just started a month ago, and I'm so glad I didn't follow a guide.
I was expecting my free form build to get crushed, and for me to have to bang my head on a wall to progress, but the early game doesn't seem as punishing as people say.
It's like you said, if you just take it one step at a time and check that you have your defenses in order you can pretty much progress without issue. And when you get the upper side of end game, maybe that's when you need to worry about following builds and understanding meta, but that's really not worth worrying about as a new player in my opinion.
I'm enjoying my custom, probably unique, build, and if I want to go further in the end I'll respec or roll a new character.

I don't think your build is as bad as you think. I tried to explain this at some point but it gets drowned in the chat.
The way a build evolves in POE is that it is not a static thing like: you take this point at level 5, then this at 6 and this at 7 and that is it for the rest of the game.
A knowledgeable player will keep remapping his tree as his needs change, with every upgrade, every level, new possibilities might open up. If you did some remapping of your tree, your damage would very easily go times 3 and you would not lose anything significant. But you cannot right now because you do not have the knowledge yet.
You, as is normal for someone coming from other ARPGs, have been focusing a lot on gear and continually trying to find the next big upgrade. But if we step back bit, there are major components of your build that have been neglected. Your gem setup is one. Investing in a 21/20 main skill gem, correct (awakened) support gems, and a better supporting skill structure (you did recently switched to a good totem), possibly with some alternate quality gems, would in my opinion once again double or triple your damage.
This all might take 10-15 divines of course, but now suddenly you would be looking at half a million dps instead of 50 k. Seemingly inconspicuous items like a vulnerability ring and some proper jewels would increase it again. I don't even think you improved your pantheon yet.
And the most crucial knowledge of all: to determine which flasks your character needs.
So it's not that your build is bad, you just are still at "The Foot of the Mountain" when it comes to knowing what can be known on how to improve your character. But once you do you will see that you can not just make this build work damage wise, but you can make it really really good.
This is the great journey of Path of Exile, and it is amazing to experience it, because every time you think you know all the things, you discover that, even after 5000 hours, you really don't know all the things.
