About me (the guy behind the cryptic three T's):
my name is Tom David Frey. I'm half Swiss and half German and have lived in many fantastic places, from the United States to Israel. Somehow cool.

32 minutes of flight time on any drone is damned impressive. Combine this with the fact that he was in cold conditions, it is astonishing.

I feel like I'd prefer the 1" 6K sensor over the 1/2" 8K sensor.
Absolutely, doesn't matter how many K's the footage won't look good and you won't be able to match it with DSLR/Cinema camera footage.

I got Dji mavic 2 Pro and love it but I bought Autel evo 2 and I am absolutely amazed by this drone. I get about 32 minutes flight time in good day and this is about 10 minutes more than mavic pro 2. Camera footage much greater than pro. I found everything is bit better than mavic Pro 2,just size is bit bigger than pro. Price is good too, in UK 🇬🇧 you can get under 1500 pounds. Thanks
Having the Mavic Pro 1 and after a 18 months of happiness with my Evo 1 y will go for the Evo 2 for sure. No more DJI restrictions.

Evo 1 had 800m max altitude, DJI is limited to 500. Not sure about Evo 2 but hopefully it's at least the same.

Nice video but inaccurate, batteries under low temps dont work well so if you get more than 30 minutes there I can imagine it will do the 40 in good weather, this is the base model here not the pro with adjustable aperture also didnt mentioned that all 3 gimbals are interchangeable, the pro model has a 6k camera that is way better than this 8k. All 3 models "Do" 10 bit color and 120 mbps Bibrate So we have along way to go before a full technical review as I can see...

Look at Drone U review. They say the batteries are significantly superior. This guy is trying to trash every corner of anything is not dji. I’ve seen it before.
Evo website says footage is ten bit, not eight bit.
First he complains that it is "only" 8 bits then he complains that his macbook pro is struggling with it. 😅
I have the original Evo, and I can confirm that they have the ability to blow DJI out of the water with these features. They delivered with the Evo 1, and they'll do it again.

I am not surprised at the lower flight time when you are flying in very cold conditions.
I'm a little surprised by this reviewer whinging about specs that are simply not available on any other drone.
Appalling conditions to review a drone too.
And the drone used in this review was a pre production model.
Who knows, but I thought some of the commentary was quite harsh.
Maybe a review will be more constructive if it is a production model.
@mingoucz jcz most of the bulky size comes from having a huge battery, it’s the 1” 6k camera that has everyone’s interest, not the 8k camera
He's giving his opinion, there aren't many review vids out yet so we'll see what some others actually have to say when they get their hands on it. These were harsh conditions, you want to see how it performs.
@@speedball10169 the base model Evo 2 was filmed in 8k, and tested in very poor low light conditions.
To get 8k on a 0.5” sensor, the camera uses a quad bay filter.
It is common knowledge that a quad bay filter does not work well at all in low light conditions.
In summary, a fairer test would have been filming the base model Evo 2 on 4K in these poor light conditions.
@@ozstrayapanoramas8610 I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just saying that you want to put it through the ringer and see how it performs. You want to take photos and video in lowlight and flat light to see what it looks like. Is this the best video? No. But he's doing his due diligence on it. Like I said, it's 1 video and it's certainly not the end all be all. I'm sure there will be better videos by more reputable vloggers coming in the near future.
Autel you need to bring this to the UK, you are missing out on a large slice of the market !
They are mid January I heard🤔 I realy hope so . this is the beginning of what the standard should be for a drone of that price . Personally I cant wait to buy it.

@@SJMDronesMedia the guy in Ireland who got the Evo didn't need to pay import charges but I can't see everyone getting away with it. We only really got DJI here with that quality. Ok there are others but not really in the same league. The original Evo was as good as the Mavic according to what you read and view so this looks to be fab. I mailed autel a couple of years ago when the Evo first came out regarding the CE marking, they replayed saying that it won't be in the near future. But that's two years ago or slightly more. Fingers crossed it gets to the UK this time. Don't think it would take much to have a service centre in the UK to be fair

You mention the video is only 8-Bit, according to Autel's specs on their website the 8K Camera is 10-Bit. And so is the 6K Camera.
It has a 10bit recording capability Tom. I just read the specifications. Maybe you got an early release? Let us know. Good video mate!
Dude your flying I'm Iceland I'm the winter with high winds.... this drone gets an A+ to me
Also the battery takes about ten full cycles to reach optimum discharge rate. From cycle one of the battery to the tenth cycle could be a difference upwards of 3 min. In addition, the cold will affect battery life, along with the wind, the location was not ideal to say the least...especially for a maiden flight/first discharge. However you guys look to have done a great job pushing through! 👍🏻
32-35 mins was a good flight time considering the cold and windy conditions in Iceland which would drain the battery faster than normal. I doubt such a small lens would have enough optical resolution to justify recording in 8k, there will probably be no noticeable difference between 4K and 8k if recording at same bitrates. The colour orange for the drone is good because it can help to prevent birds attacking the drone. You said no consumer drone has 360 optical avoidance, this is not true, the mavic 2 pro in tripod mode has 360 optical avoidance. At 9:20 I noticed some bad red/green colour banding.
Tom you seem smashing on this drone a bit too much. You have a review unit and not even a final build. Software is beta at this point your really going to say it’s buggy and no distance when you know full well Evo 1 has outstanding range? I think you would have better served the community to give you assessment but preface it with it being an early review unit. I am 100% confident it will have the advertised range because Evo 1 had good range. Build quality too? Evo 1 is rock solid; I can’t imagine Evo 2 not feeling premium unless you don’t like the matte finish on it. I for one praise the matte finish because of the fingerprints the Evo 1 had. This is elevating the drone game and for ONCE DJI is not at the top in features. They are shockingly absent from the equation entirely with their Mavic mini. Next time bring a power inverter and you could have charged that battery inside your vehicle.

I believe that 9 mile range number refers the battery life more than transmission range, it’s the overall distance the drone can travel before exhausting its battery. I could be mistaken , but I think that’s correct.
cold weather changes batterylife a lot, but i dont know if you use other drones under the same conditions ?
@Scouts Honor I just ran my Evo for 20 minutes at 20 below. He's not even wearing gloves (or a hat). It can't be all that cold.
Making the camera system modular was an incredibly smart decision from a manufacturing standpoint. No competitor is going to keep up with DJI on design iteration, but if all autel has to do is focus on upgrading the camera for several years, they can get to a point where they can overtake some of their oppressive market share. Personally there is always a lot of theorizing "THIS WILL KILL DJI" but this is the first drone i see realistically competing with DJI in any way shape or form. We will have to see how they respond with their 2020 release.

You can adjust the camera settings by pressing the scroll buttons just like on the first EVO. There's a settings icon in the lower right corner! lol

I want to know more about how it handles interference from WiFi and other drones? Mavic 2 can be flown with 12 other drones standing a few feet away without issue.

Pretty harsh review. I'd be surprised if Autel picks him again to be one of the select few to do a pre release review.
Other people who have done reviews about it states that it does have 360° obstacle avoidance sensors, they said because of the way they are positioned. But I heard that DJI will have it on the Mavic 3 when released, but we'll just have to wait and see.
How good is the zoom? Is 8k too strong for posting videos on Facebook and CZcams?

I noticed that the horizon is pretty tilted in a few of these shots. Did you find this to be the case often during flying? I ask because original Evo was plagued by similar issues.
I also agree with other comments that the drone looks pretty shaky at hover, though that could just be strong winds.

Why on Earth Autel picked this guy to review the drone in Iceland I have not the slightest clue about. The guy is clearly idealess about Nordic/Arctic weather conditions. He has no clue about how cold affects batteries and therefor flight duration, instead he has the audacity and arrogance to call out Autel that it is "only" 32 minutes time of flight instead of the 40 minutes announced and that it is "lame" he couldn't get more flytime instead of just two glacial runs, in his ignorance he didn't plan ahead to rent a transportable mini generator to charge electronics with for cabinn/ roadtrips, let alone did he rent say something à la full wheel drive Toyota RAV4 or Land Cruiser, instead of a front wheel drive Prius that can't move in the snow. Heck, he wears summer clothing in frost weather with gust winds up to -15 celcius or so. Do yourself a favour and watch another review of the drone.

I doubt it as well, his own poor lack of planning and excecution got him those photages, and not Autel Robotics that he bashes out on. On good news better drone channels are out with content, particular Drone Valley, which is always a treat to watch.
I think he called out the time he got out of the batteries in those conditions. Had you rather have him lie or sugar coat the review like some do so they can make more off the sells they generate?

You don't find the 0.8 micron pixel size disturbing?? The Sony specs on the sensor tell the story on why the low light is "off" + the binning. Let's perfect 4k first before moving on to what the human eye can't differentiate from.

Great job Tom, especially with the weather you all had to deal with, however a beautiful place to video. From your review "Skydio 2" still seems to be the best drone for tracking and obstacle avoidance. We use auto tracking a lot in our videos - so we will wait until Autel perfects their tracking. The 8K is great!

P5 is dead.... they re-released Phantom 4 Pro V2. That to me equates to nail in coffin. Mavic 3 tech specs will make Phantom 5 an oversized Mavic 3; there wouldn’t be a point to it. Autel MADE DJI push the Mavic 3 instead of throttling features like they did with Mavic 2 Pro.

Tom: Thank you for making the 48MP files available. THE CAMERA IS TERRIBLE AND THE IMAGES ARE UNUSABLE FOR ANYONE EXPECTING A 48MP IMAGE. The Autel Evo2 48 MP image completely falls apart after one zoom into in the image.
DJI Mavic's 12MP images aren't even this bad.
The obstacle avoidance is still a generation behind the skydio 2, but the camera quality is superb
Other than OA....Evo 1 blows skydio 2 out of the water in every department. So Evo 2 is orders of magnitude better.
You would get each drone for a different reason. Skydio imo is for action footage where this would be more wide/ slow cinematic

Hi sir am ur subscriber from India I have p4p drone while shooting video in outdoor in video some jello effect is coming like shaking how to solve that sir plz tell me...
downloaded the roughly 400mb 8k video. Quicktime on my laptop couldn't even open it. Premiere Pro couldn't even play it at 1/4 quality. Spent 15 minutes encoding the MOV to MP4 in 8k. Still can't play it. My Mac is SO not ready for the future yet! Shot's look great though.
Unfortunately, the controller looks really cheap to me. I think the quad itself looks pretty badass! I like the matte finish of the orange. Overall, it will be easier to keep line of sight while in flight. Also, I think they are the same company that makes my professional automotive scan tool.

8K is nice but really what use is it for us regular guys, social media still stuck on 1080p for the most part and no one really cares. I can see some cinema usage but really unless you're using it commercially...
