Jesper: *breathes*
Narrator: This is a big problem
"Magic is hard" - best explanation for misplays/mistakes. I really enjoy this production format and the unique decks that always see play. It really helps my creative juices for brewing.
Love seeing Jasper playing with all the content creators
Whoâs Jasper? ;)
@@morganath damn auto correct lol
"Magic is hard, back to the game" beautiful I love it
This game reminded me so much of how the games in my group tends to go. "hey lets not beat the guy that has no board" then 3 turns later he just wins with some random combo.
Garett: *Has no nonland permanents except mana rocks*
Jesper: *Swings repeatedly at Ryan to remove the stacks pieces from the game*
Garett: "Everything is going according to plan..."
Jesper is an absolute powerhouse! Every game Iâve seen him play in has been extremely impressive.
Jesper in 2 minutes of footage plays cards worth more than my net worth
Gotta say that seeing Jesper again makes me pretty afraid đ
[edit. holy speck his first two turns were amazing]
Jesper was so close to winning, he just pulled the trigger on his removal one spell too soon :(
I also think hitting the stax player is a common mistake at boards like these. When you unlock the rest of the players by removing the stax you have to be prepared to win on the spot or deal with your opponents going off. Having both claim and beast within is an argument for it being fine, but I think I would have gone the route of eliminating one or both of the other players first.
@@timothyharrelson6645 he should've killed other players first and let alela stay at low life. He absolutely blundered and threw a won game tbh. :/
It was such a close game! I mean, in hindsight he should've held back till Chain Veil hit the table, but you never know until it's too late sometimes. What if he needed every mana rock on the table in order to go off? It's a tough call to make in either case
@@timothyharrelson6645 as a stax player this is the common theme. Players even at cedh tables do not know how to play against stax so they see a piece that stops their main line and will extend every resource (usually with backup from the rest of the table) to remove it or the player and then they lose to the third player who didnt extend those resources. This was 100% a won game by Jasper if he had killed everyone sans the stax player first. I want stac to be discussed more by cedh channels because even the big content creators and players you see all make huge blunders like this.
Yeeea, I always go for the blue combo deck before anyone else; the stax are annoying but not a loaded gun that wins the game immediately...
Jesper is awesome, stoked to see him back. Havenât even watched yet but I know this is going to great
Damn, Folger's turn where he played the tutor into chalice and library into Narset was miserable
9:03 paying for rhystic study but not for the thorn? Also, I think the thorn tax was forgotten for quite a while
And sphere of resistance.
I think the thorn tax wasn't forgotten as often as the lack of narration would lead you to believe; however I do think a fair few were missed unfortunately, but such is the nature of the game and the limits of human attention ÂŻ\_(ă)_/ÂŻ
This episode was epic!!! Jesper is really a force to be reckoned with. I really thought he would win and then Teferi went ham xD Love your videos!!! Always excited for new episodes. Looking forward to the next one =D
Those choices of commanders was the nicest touch.
Looove to see Teferi winning a game!! My favorite deck!! Great game, that Omnath was brutal most of the game
Why did it matter that Teferi, and Ugin "see each activation of the Chain Veil"?
@@erik.pajula "seeing" the activations on chainveil before teferi/ugin enters means you keep the mana loop with teferi until you get enough chainveil activation so that when teferi enters and "sees" 20 activations he can use his loyalty ability 1+x where x is the "seen activations" this will let teferi draw into ugin. When ugin enters and "sees x" activations on chainveil he can then use his lightning bolt-like loyalty ability enough times to kill all other players :)
Damn there turn ones are more expensive than my commander decks
Even on opening turns where they don't cast any spells.
I actually run an Alela stax deck that is fringe CEDH.. was nice to see one featured. Also the playmat used , i use those sleeves for mine ^_^
Slithermuse is such a cool card. Shadowmoor and Lorwyn were such good sets đ
So THAT'S how the Teferi combo works. Neat.
I knew Jesper was a man of class! Field of the dead is my favorite card in magic, it goes in so many of my decks
That Omntha deck did some work ^^
I play a high powered Omnath deck and he can be extremely oppressive. It's awesome to see someone playing him in cEDH!
Jesper is the quarantine King!
Awesome. Jesper is such a strong player.
awesome game. i love the burgeoning/oboro/field synergy
Love Jesper art!
That was a sweet Omnath deck! I'm not very knowledgeable in things cEDH but I'd love to find something that fits me / is a good introduction to higher power play whilst also not being "meta"
I finally understand how the teferi+veil loop works
Insane t2 from Jesper.
The way this jesper guy organizes his cards on the battlefield is a crime
Jesper always brings heat
Gosh that City of Brass on Jesperâs board is driving me crazy
Jesper truly defined the phrase "the best removal is player removal". He really wanted that Dranith gone
Yeah, probably to much. With Dranith in play it made Jesper the strongest on board but once he got rid of Ryan it allowed Garrett to steal the win from under him. If he focused Garrett he could have killed him faster then changed focus to Folger and Ryan last. Unless there was something Ryan had that Jesper was afraid of Drannith was helping him the most.
Jesper plays with power.... all of it! đ€Ł
Jesper always has the most interesting decks
Alela is my giiirl I love her so much and so happy I'm not the only one with a cedh list for her. Love you guys!
I know what you mean, I have a list that is more focused around Artifact combos but still has a fair amount of Stax to help me stall until I can win. The artifacts making Faerie tokens is a bonus but does help win games a lot too.
@@SvviftDeath My build is a polymorph build into Razaketh, which tutors for mana and more combo pieces, but wins with Citadel, Top and Reservoir. It was a lot of fun, and a mess to explain the first time lol.
@@fabled5906 Nice, mine also has the Citadel, Top and Reservoir combo but also has Lion's Eye loops for mana with Skullclamp to draw my combo pieces with a Scrap Trawler backup to get said pieces back that get countered or removed. Also helps with other combos with Emry and Mirran Spy that also get infinite mana and draw the entire deck. I even have some personal tech with Thief of Sanity.
@@SvviftDeath The personal touch is always a nice thing to add. Really defines a decks personality. I put Omniscience, Flood of Tears, and Armageddon in, so I can get out Omni for cheap, then blow up everyones lands so they can't stop me from winning. It is fun..... for me. Ironically not the meanest thing in my meta though.
@@fabled5906 lol, that's just rude and I love it. I am the most advanced at deck building in my group so I tend to get a lot of negative responses from everyone else. I would like to play against your meta to see just how mean it can get.
Side note I'm the Attrition player. The longer the game goes the better. It's almost always a test of endurance and my group can't handle the mental game.
Jesper is so good. The oboro, burgeoning, field combo monkas đ€Ł
It's been so long since I've seen chain veil teferi. Missed him, lol
I might have to take inspiration from Ryan's deck. Alela is such a neat commander to mess around with, though I might be leaning to the more classical, "Sword of the Meek + Thopter Foundry + Ashnod's Altar = win" combo as a wincon to include in the deck alongside stax to protect it as it assembles.
That my deck is pretty sweet
G freaking G guys!
I donât know who did the math with Teferi, but I would have to print out a spreadsheet if I ever built the deck.
That was a really interesting end... huh
Hey! I see that Terrese neilson faerie token. Nice.
Can anyone tell me what the song is in the background?
I saw Jesper's Valakut, got curious and took a look. Man's got 4 mountains in his deck.
I like seeing Jesper on this channel, but dang that was a hard game to watch... I know Jesper wanted to play his commander, but Ryan was stuck on lands... he should have been attacking Garret as magistrate was holding off teferi as well... oh well, still a fun game to watch.
Looking back I agree. But I was down to one or 2 cards very fats and was soo focused on drawing cards to gain leverage. The othe rplayers was on to me and stopped playing lands to hinder my zombies. But I never played against a Teferi deck and shoudl have seen he could do nothing without his commander
That was awesome seeing Garrett win with Teferi, especially since I didnt completely understand the Chain Veil combo. Great game, Jesper is definitely a monster
Notably, when Narset and Sylvan Library are both out, choosing to draw with Library is an illegal action, so you never have to put cards back on top (even if you forget about Narset). This is because drawing the cards is phrased as an optional cost.
There's only 94 cards in Jesper's Omnath deck? Could you add the missing cards, love Omnath as a commander and would like to know the full deck :)
a question ... why is the Kenrith list of cards that appears in the description isnÂŽt the same as they use in the game?
Where have I heard this music from....?
Seeing Jasper's deck ... is like seeing my friend's Omnath and same goes with my Alela, the table is usually he beating me the most he can so he can cast omnath or do stuff. I hate Omnath so much! Fun games!
Would yâall consider Yarok or Omnath better? Iâve wanted to try out a lands matter deck for some time but Iâm torn between the two
Probably Omnath over Yarok. Double triggers are good on Yarok, but he is better utilized with other types of triggers vs just landfall.
I like the Ugin finish in CVT. Is that how CVT always finishes? I know it was a top tier dck back in the day but i've heard it has been outclassed in cEDH.
Yeah itâs no longer considered top tier. We were playing fringe decks.
omntha is my favorite commander
Smae!
did folger draw turn 5, because 2 zombie tokens die?
I cant wait for the commander legends episode
Did folger hit all of his compost triggers? The zombies dying would have drawn him cards
Seeing the impact of Drannith Magistrate, Azra Oddsmaker and all those zombies makes me ponder whether boardclear effects will become viable in cEDH as WotC starts printing more and more staxy, card drawing and overall powerful creatures.
Creature heavy metas definitely see more board wipes. Fire Covenant, Toxic Deluge, Flame Sweep, Sweltering Suns, etc.
Great game o/
hey Guys, a bit out of context, but do you think Liesa, Shroud of Dusk, could be a viable commander in edh? She has single handedly made me want to play edh
Jesper definitely had the win if he leveraged the stax pieces and just beat face with all the zombies no one seemed to have an answer for.
Jesper looks like a chad version of Elon Musk
Nice
Let me see if I understood correctly, so the chain veil was activated several times before Ugin came into play, but once it did, Ugin got to activate all the times the chain veil did before Ugin entered?
yes, that is how the chainveil combo works, its a weird interaction.
@@gapeape3895 that's so weird, thank you
@@angellopez6475 that's also what enables the teferi veil to do something in the first place since teferi has to die in the combo and once you replay it it's a new object.
@@angellopez6475 It's because it alters the rules of the game that say planeswalkers can only activate one loyalty ability per turn to let them activate as many as there have been Chain Veil activations plus their normal one.
@@Bucket_Boy101 i see, thank you :)
Wait, so question. Chain veil activations stack?
Yes they do!
Question why didn't keep the artifact destruction for the chain veil. Yes a lot of mana is scary but if he's going I. As you could tell you could have guest it was in his hand and he couldn't activate his tefir at instant speed. Well at least if he doesn't use his alt
Jesper was new to CEDH. He didnât know how teferi won.
I wish they added a little counter to each players name that showed how many cards they had in hand. Otherwise great content as always glad to see more awesome gameplay.
They did have it in earlier episodes but decided it was way too much of a hassle to maintain it.
I feel like every alliteration you guys do in the intro is the same letter as the winning commander
We have hidden messages in our alliteration in the past!
ah yes omntha, locus of the roil
I felt a bit bad for Jesper, the win slipped right through his fingers, but oh well, that was still an amazing game and Ihope to see another game with him
I think I did not win mostly because of a very well played and timed Dranith Magistrate, It wa sthat single card that hindered me from getting value out of my landfall. When I finally reached that point it was just too late.
@@JesperEjsing i donât remember where I saw someone say that stax pieces are not always bad if they hurt other people more than they hurt you, in this case I think that pursuing to kill the Magistrate controller was a good move in the short term, mainly to start casting your commander, draw cards and generate more advantage, however the game was pretty much locked up until the Magistrate was gone, and you had a pretty good board state and value engine so focusing in the other players that had less on board than you wouldnât have been a bad idea, not sure how the game would have played out tho, I was constantly expecting you to get to close the game until I saw the Teferi combo pieces hit the field and could only hope you had either another permanent removal or the counterspell needed to prevent the combo win
Still, that was a great and exciting game, I love your art and hope to see another gameplay video with you, after the world fixes itself I hope to be able to meet you sometime and play some games!
Ah yes, OMNTHA
The one to rule them all
Yes
Folger gets all the judge warnings lol
Do/did the zombies trigger Compost?
Don't think so because tokens aren't cards
The game felt like two different 1v1 Ryan vs Jesper and Garrett vs Folger for most of it. What is the math on the chain veil combo? My impression is it is not actually infinite but close enough that it does not matter.
Pretty sure it goes infinite:
- Each time you minus you gain 3 colorless (except for two times for each time you cast him where you gain 1 and U)
- Each time he is cast, you can plus him for all but one activation which means that you effectively double +5 the amount of times the Chainveil is activated each time.
So this infinite mana, card draw and planeswalker activations
Wait, could someone explain the Veil combo to me? I'm looking at it and it seems you don't generate enough mana to recast Terferi and pay taxes and infinite amount of times. Specifically where is all the needed Blue mana coming from?
5 activations of teferi -1 ability to untap 20 permanents, sol ring 5x for 10c, monolith 5x for 15c, key 5x for 10c, island twice for 2u, chain veil 3x. Veil used 12c tho, so it nets 22c+2u on second cast. 20c+2u third cast and so on. After the 14th cast it stops netting mana, but youll have 154 floating and have banked 38 planeswalker activations. So instead you +1 teferi, letting you look 76 deep keeping half. Sometimes thats not enough to win, but the odds are astronomical small, the deck also runs scepter, draw x spells and tutors. Sometimes your mana producers, arent the best but if you can get at least 6 per -1 activation you will most likely win.
It is actually fully infinite. On the second loop round you would have activated the chain veil 6x in total, so you could -1 four times, then +1, then -1 twice more, giving 6 untap activations - another 7c + 1u. Third cast gives 7 untap activations, fourth gives 9 and so on.
Have you guys tried Oathbreaker?
No not yet.
Shouldn't Folger have been getting lots of card draw triggers every time Jesper's zombies died from Compost being in play?
Ah yes, my favorite commander. Omntha. (Typo on jesperâs corner)
Yeeeeeea
How did they forget thorn of amethyst?
It took me almost 10 minutes to notice Jesperâs commander is called âOmnthaâ for some reason lol
Bring Jesper back again soon đđ
That was NOT how I expected the game to end!
Game of Throws
"An amazing thasa's Oracle combo win" BARF! the only thing cool about it is it's his art, so flavor points for that.
Yeah, he should have said something closer to âa classic win with his own artâ or âa normal win with his own artâ
It might be how he navigated the win with Kenrith on board đ€·ââïž
@@anthonyscott6460 I'm not trying to demean, but oracle + consult could be accomplished by someone with 2 braincells, plus there wasn't much in the way of insane plays.
@@Speetlebeetle I'm not trying to elevate either, it was a pretty basic line. Just maybe that's why he said it or he was just talking him up
me, being small brained: alright, scapeshift and get a burst of zombies with FoD
Jesper: alright, oboro and burgeoning with FoD for a stream of zombie
me: O.O how dumb am i...
FoD is why Oboro has spiked stupid in price
@@calebcrain5086 Or just play Trade Routes and do it with any land you want :D
@@khurgar8120 SOLID. That is a card my dude. I have a 5C lands deck that can use this.
Can someone explain to me how Garrett won? This combo doesn't look possible unless I'm missing something...
It's explained in the video. Was there something in particular you wanted clarification on?
@@PlayingWithPowerMTG How does he play his commander and not worry about commander tax/2 blue mana. Also why is there dice on his Veil?
@@Wizi3lizz He pays the commander tax with the surplus mana he is generating with each activation. Whenever he recasts Teferi, it's a new instance, and recognizes the chain veil's activations up until that point, which is why he keeps a dice on the chain veil to keep track.
@@PlayingWithPowerMTG Why does it matter how many activations chain veil has?
Edit: I looked up the item on The Gatherer and found this:
"Because the last ability modifies the rules of the game, it affects not only planeswalkers you control when it resolves, but also planeswalkers that come under your control later in the turn."
Didn't know the item changed the rules like that.
Why beast within basalt? I feel like saving it for chain Veil wouldâve been better
It was to keep his mana limited in that turn to avoid he would just replay Teferi.
He could have BW the commander or chain and won..
If an opponent hasnât drawn any cards in a turn and a spell or ability instructs that player to draw multiple cards, that player will just draw one card. However, if the draws are optional, the player canât choose to draw, even if they could draw one card this way.
Narset qa
Jesper commander: OMNTHA
Omntha is a great commanderđ
Oh yeah my boi Teferi wins!
how much money do these people have?
I dont suppose anybody wants to explain the Teferi, Ugin, Chain Veil shenanigans, cuz i did not get it.
Every time you activate the chain veil, it will register a new activated ability onto planeswalkers. Whenever Teferi dies and is recast, since it is a new instance, it looks to see how many times the chain veil has been activated. Since this new teferi hasn't used those extra activations from the chain veil yet, it can use all of them up until that point. You can continue doing this over and over again, building up more and more activations.
It's the first Teferi i see since... 2017, probably, lmao.
I wonder, why didnât Jesper ever fetch another mountain to trigger Valakut? Maybe he didnât have any mountains in his deck
In the deck I only have 2 basic mountains. And I used my fetching to find Valakut. Never drew another fetch really after that. Dryad of the Illyrian Grove is in the deck to enable Valakut to do work, but itâs an incidental damage and usually something I would use crop rotation for when I have him in play. But alas. Never drew it and even if my deck runs timetwister wheel and windfall I only had the one slitermuse for card draw really since everyone paid for Rhystic.
But, what was in the sandwich?
Only Ryan knows...
