  • Rulebreaker guides you through understanding how to play as the Nekro Virus in Twilight Imperium 4th Edition. This is an instructional guide, designed for new players.
    We are the Nekro Virus. You will be assimilated.
    POST-RECORDING NOTE: If you are playing with the "Living Rules" updates (after this video was uploaded things changed slightly!) the Nekro Virus flagship behaves slightly differently. The Infantry used as ships can continue to fight even if the flagship is destroyed.

    Mistake: capacity is not reevaluated during combat, so the flagship dying would not mean the infantry die immediately. It has also been ruled in living rules reference 1.2 that the infantry stay in the fight.

    it seems the technology strategy card is in fact a very powerful tool for the nekro; you have the potential to add 6 command tokens as the primary ability which gives you 2 options to research tech. and since you are also almost assured not to use influence for anything else, you can use it to buy command points when someone plays the leadership card; it seems the nekro should have an abundance of command points and thus can attack at will/have big fleets and potentially use the secondary ability on practically every strategy card being played. it should be easy this way to spread out fast and dominate the game while other players struggle to get command points. your opponents are also faced with a dilemma; either research tech themselves that makes them a target for you while preventing your additional command points, or either not research tech but lowers their own potential in the game and gives extra commands to you.: damned if you do, damned if you dont.

    The consistently best choice for stealing assimilate tech is infantry upgrades, since infantry do all your conquering. By far the best is the upgraded Letani Warrior to get production but people will never let you have that, or in PoK the Crimson Legionnaires for guaranteed recycle troops who pay you when they die for massive momentum. Failing that you can get some disgusting value with trade good bonuses; once I saw a player steal the E-Res siphons from JolNar and the trade good doubler from Mentak so every time someone activated his system he immediately got 6 value of trade goods. Insane.

    Just to clarify: a faction technology is considered "owned" by the faction when they have successfully researched it, right?

    Heya guys. I've read alot of different answers regarding the questions I am about to ask. Hoping for a TI4 guru to come through with a definitive answer.
    - Can Nekro Virus use the secondary ability of the Technology strategy card to obtain 3 command tokens. If so does it cost said player 1 strategy token and 4 resources to use as per other players using it to tech up?
    Thanks in advance

    • @molybdane7240
      @molybdane7240 Před 4 lety

      This came up in our game too. Spending command tokens to gain command tokens seems to be the result of something not worded correctly, so I argued that the player does pay 4 trade goods, but gains 3 command counters.

    • @christianringlstetter6814
      @christianringlstetter6814 Před 4 lety +5

      Of course they can, and it works just like described on the strategy card, with the difference that they get 3 command tokens instead of the tech.

    does infantry units carried by a ship (in space) counts as "ground forces" for the purpose of the Flagship's text? I thought that 'ground forces' would refer to infantry allocated on a planet. This would make the flagship a little more focused on defense (defending systems with planets with ground forces) than offense (carrying a fleet of infantry that hits better than fighters and are immune to destroyers)

    • @Quincy_Morris
      @Quincy_Morris Před 4 lety +2

      Yes. “This system” means space or ground iirc. Though it may not include ground forces on the planet.

    • @johsenior1535
      @johsenior1535 Před 4 lety +3

      the living rules are clear that all infantry units are ground forces, regardless wether carried aboard a ship or stationed on a planet, so any infantry within the system can be used as per the flagship's special ability. so yes, these are indeed multi-purpose infantry that fight better than fighters. but the flagship needs to be present, if your opponent can take it out with a direct hit/other game effect, then in the next combat your infantry will be useless in space combat. and you only have 1 flagship so your other fleets will want to have fighters anyway to soak up combat hits. powerful but very situational.

    if you copy tech from other players can you copy their race unit upgrades? for example there is some unique ship "exodia" or something other player have or their war sun or upgrade for the war sun for the other faction? The card for Y X tokens says it copies only texts so i assume that would not work on those?

    • @RulebreakerBoardgames
      @RulebreakerBoardgames  Před 5 lety +6

      No, printed faction units are not technologies. Neither is the War Sun. You can only copy faction techs as well, so if nobody builds one, you can't use the ability on standard techs.

    So you know, can the infantry take hits like regular ships thus soaking up firepower and keeping their carrier alive (unless a direct hit is played) until they're dead?

    • @Quincy_Morris
      @Quincy_Morris Před 4 lety +4

      Yes. Though I’m not sure how a direct hit would change anything.
      There is no “their” carrier. In TI4 capacity is shared and you just have to make sure capacity in the system is enough for the fighters and GF in the system.

    I've always found the three commodities odd for the Nekro virus. The Barony and L1Z1X only have two because they're so unpopular and aggressive, yet probably the most aggressive faction in the game - who steal technology through combat and have a racial ability named Galactic Threat - are more valuable traders? I don't get it.

    Hello. Question: If I want to play the secondary ability of tech strategy card after someone plays it... obviously I can't, but i "would". Does that mean that i need to have 1 token in my strategy pool to "play it" and then receive 2 tokens back?

    • @nathanleubecker3964

    Can you do multiple Tactical actions in a single action phase?

    • @RulebreakerBoardgames
      @RulebreakerBoardgames  Před 5 lety +5

      I'm a little confused by your question. You can take a Tactical Action on your turn and you will have multiple turns per round (until you pass) - but maybe you're asking something else?

    • @johsenior1535
      @johsenior1535 Před 4 lety +3

      every player performs 1 action in order of initiative, but over the entire action phase, as long as you have the command points to spend in your tactical pool, you can keep performing them. the tactical phase only ends when all players pass, so as long as you dont pass and have tactical command tokens available you can continue performing tactical actions.

      you can steal any standard tech, be it unit upgrade or other, for faction specific tech, you are limited to only stealing 2 tech with the valefar tokens in total, but can be any of the faction techs in the game so you have a potential for high synergy effects by choosing the best ones. stealing tech does not require prerequisites.
