The 16th Century Samaleswari temple 🛕 the abode of the presiding deity of western Odisha on the bank of the Mahanadi has been remarkably Transformation over 25acres of its peripheral area.
The 16th Century shrine was built by king Balaram Dev of Chauhan dynasty.as per legends Goddess samaleswari was known as SomaleswarI meaning "One who bestows eternal bliss"
people also believed that she was worshipped under Simuli tree which people in sambalpur call semel (cotton) tree which is why she became known as Samaleswari.
