Wife bought me one for my birthday last year. She knew that I've been wanting to get back into the hobby. After the first couple runs, I made the decision to build it similar to a racer rather than a basher. It's been a slow, but fun, process for me. This truggy is amazing and hangs with best of 'em. After letting a few of my buddies test drive it, I'm confident that my driving skills are what need improvement now.
I think Traxxas should come back to the race scene and produce a race kit. This is an amazing truggy but could use an official Traxxas racing development team to produce a pure race kit version of it.
Thank you for creating such an awesome truck, even if it is more of a basher out of the box, it still has a lot of potential to easily be built into a racer.

Ok love this look ! I want one ! Just bought a hoss couple weeks ago. Was torn between this or hoss. I truly think I wish I would got the rustler Vxl 4x4 . Or maybe I need just get used to hoss only ran couple batteries so far . Rustler seems more stable . I do enjoy the hoss though, just wish these 2 came with gtr shocks out of the box. Thanks traxxas for making amazing products .

I really like this car. I’ve done some upgrades to mine, and it takes 4/6 seconds to reach 65+ mph with good throttle control.

Yeah i bought a vxl as well about two years ago it's my favourite rc car so far and the body is quite battered however i don't seem to find spare green body anywhere not even in the traxxas website.

i got this truck a few weeks ago and im facing an issue regarding the acceleration
it is accelerating very slowly and barely reaches the edge of my table on full throttle,
also on checking the slipper clutch i found that the part 5119 was very loose and something appeared to have melted
is this the reason to this issue and how do i fix it?

Get a maxx, you won't regret it. The rustler is fun but you can dwarf other 10th scales with the maxx and its aggressive driving

you need to put out there this is highly modified parts you see here like the lights, red brace, gtr shocks, esc fan are not included if you buy one get the chassis cover and esc fan and thank me later.
i dont know if they changed the durability of the rustler 4x4 VXL since i bought one but its been two years of ownership and i dont use it anymore i loved it for the first month or so but it would bottom out at any jump or drop that was more than 8 inches and like slap hard on big jumps and the amount of broken driveshafts i went through i was only 15 at the time so i couldnt afford the steel ones but its a fun truck
The truck requires upgrades when it comes to durability. Had you paid for some upgrades you would love the truck. Mine is damn near indestructible now. This truck unfortunately requires upgrades. No one runs it stock for long because parts will break.
It bottoming out is a shock issue. They can be upgraded… Sounds like you did not learn anything about the hobby in the 2 years you have owned a rustler.
Bottoming out is generally a shock problem. Start by checking the oil level in the shocks and if they're low, top them off. Side note: if you're shock oil is really dirty, I would first drain the oil, refill with fresh oil, and be sure to bleed the air out. If you're still bottoming out, try experimenting with thicker oils, pistons with fewer holes, or different shock mounting positions.

Wonder how many drive shafts broke making this video
I've been in RC for over 7 years now and I've never managed to break any of my plastic driveshafts. I run on very loose dirt, and because of it's low traction, I set my slipper clutch looser than stock to gain traction and reduce shock on the driveline. And even with this looser slipper setup, I can still spin my tires even on concrete.

Probably because you don't have the correct battery/pinion gear. They advertise 65 mph if these factors are met in which helps in reaching the 65+ if it's listed on the box it can do it most likely
The Traxxas Xo1 can do 100 mph....
@@jknewb6276 I once was Traxxas, But I find after running many cars of each brand I prefer HPI and AArma The most, as for me they have been more durable than the Traxxas's
@@jknewb6276 The XO-1 is also limited out of the box. Even after installing the high speed gearing, you still have to unlock the governor in the speed controller through the Traxxas link app in order to go 100 mph.

I've never been a fan of those progressive rate springs. Having driven a friend's slash 4x4 that had them, I was left with a sour taste in my mouth. Swapping them out for some linear rate springs made a huge difference.
65+ mph? Maybe on pavement, but it probably never hits 25 mph in this video. NO RC can go 65 mph on these trails. Good video and the Rustler is a capable basher, but the title is a flat out lie.
