As much as I love watching how y’all vacation, I really think you can have an amazing trip trip to aulani for like 1/4 of the cost if not less. Just on the airfare alone! I’ve gone to Hawaii for like $350 on economy, so for anyone who is scared of the price tag, I would keep that in mind (renting dvc points is also a really affordable option). Anyways, I love how transparent you guys are about it though, and it’s fun to see how much you can actually do on a vacation there.

Next time, in the event you guys don't buy into DVC, you may want to atleast rent DVC points. It's pretty easy to get a 1 bedroom and it would have likely saved you quite a bit. Many rental services now offer some kind of insurance too
Also, you should consider investing in a travel rewards credit card, that would likely save a ton on those longer flight fares

If you're still thinking about it, the DVC Fan CZcams channel has a lot of good info and discussions.
When I did the math, by buying in I could stay in DVC studios for about the same amount as a moderate resort room, and I can book a 1 bedroom for about the price of a normal deluxe hotel room. If you're going to stay in those larger rooms anyway, I think it's worth the upfront deposit.

We bought in DVC coming up on 5 years ago, can't imagine paying for as much as direct would want now. I am confident people who bought five years before we did felt the same way we do now though. We bought in as a way to ensure we took our vacation time as workholics and warm weather escapes from Wyoming. Definitely requires planning especially to take advantage of your home resort. Potentially investigate resale options also. You would not get some of the "perks" of being a "blue card" but the amount you save, a lot of the discounts are the same as annual passes.
Bottom line, after 7 trips using our points, we've "paid" for it, I would do it again and if it's the right fit, you'll know in your heart. Also, we could sell our points now and get back as much as we paid up front if we wanted too but I think we'll stick with the 46 more years of vacations just for the cost of dues ;-)

Another option is to buy the minimum points you can directly from Disney, I think its 150 right now. Then purchase another contract resale and you will save ALOT of money.

There’s no way I could plan 11 months out and know that those dates would still be okay when the trip was about to happen. No flexibility is why I decided not too, which is too bad, as I spend a lot of my time doing Disney.

I’m sure this has been mentioned elsewhere in the comments, but if you’re looking at DVC, it’s worth taking a peek at doing a small contract direct from Disney, and then the remainder of your points from the resale market. We mostly went to Hilton Head or Vero Beach.
In 2017 we finally made it to WDW and unfortunately in 2018 my husband passed unexpectedly. So 2017 was our last vacation with him and we had an amazing time.
Without DVC we would not have all the memories we had with him going on vacation together with our kids and my sisters family and my mom (which she passed in 2020)

I highly recommend buying several smaller DVC contracts instead of one large contract. Sounds like they whited you a 350 point contract. That would be harder to sell resale in the future. If you buy direct, consider starting with around 100 points (or whatever the minimum is these days).. You can always add more. We started with 100 points at one resort, bought 100 later at another resort, then added on here and there, as we could afford it. Buying smaller points may mean you couldn’t do Aulani every year, but you can save up points or borrow to make it happen periodically until you have a larger number of points. Dip your toes into DVC! It’s likely that, like us, you’ll love it and will keep adding on! Also, direct points are most expensive so most either buy all resale (has restrictions) or buy a minimal direct contract then buy the rest resale (cheaper). Riviera resale has restrictions, so be sure to read about that. We love Aulani and not having a hefty hotel bill made deciding to go an easy decision.

Use that to factor in actual "cost." It used to be you could buy "aftermarket" DVC but they have taken some of the perks away with that so may or may not be a good deal.

@@yocpum123 Everyone has different lives, different jobs, different circumstances. If getting rich off CZcams were easy you'd probably be doin it 🤷‍♀️ I think the Trackers are blessed to have found something they enjoy and made a career out of it. But that doesn't mean it's not work. To be committed to making a video of your life and in your home every single day and then committed to editing it every single day..... as well as travel and spending alot of their of pocket to make sure they are doing things they're viewers want to see.... not mention subjecting themselves to the constant criticism.... all thats certainly not easy.

I’m really glad you guys are transparent about the prices of things. I remember when Jen and Tim would talk about how expenses these trips would be and how they could never do them. I’m happy you can do them now but I wish you still had the insight to not spend on some of these ridiculous things. At the end of the day you are doing really well and if it makes sense for your finances, enjoy life!

Holy moly that was expensive. It's even worse for us when you have to convert from NZD. In 2017 we flew Auckland, Honolulu, New York, Orlando, Las Vegas, Honolulu, Auckland. It was a 5 week trip with a week in NY, 2 weeks in Orlando, 10 days road tripping to Arizona, Utah, Nevada from Vegas, and then the rest of the days spent there and back in Honolulu. We stayed in moderate/value accommodation and it cost less than your Aulani trip. (2 adults, no kids). Please do more travel so we can enjoy through you as we are stuck in New Zealand, the hermit kingdom due to Covid restrictions. Love your channel. Keep up the good work!

I have scrap books from every trip. My girls are 20 and 23. This year is likely our last family vacation just the four of us. Absolutely no regrets!!

A good way to look at buying into DVC is that prices are going to keep going up for hotel rooms, but this is a way to keep some control over what you pay (and get better rooms) and if you can’t use all of the points, you can rent some to others and that helps to pay the dues.

I love our DVC. We’ve been going to Aulani as DVC members since they opened. The buy in is expensive, no doubt. But as far as the cost, it’s the same as buying a deeded vacation home. We paid off ours last year. The trips we’ve taken have been so worth the cost. Also, as a member of DVC we have access to a lounge with changing rooms on check out day. Just another perk that I love when we stay there.

I went for my Honeymoon in July and I would only go back if COVID got better and things were different. I realized how much I was missing when I was at the resort . People kept telling me "Due to Covid". It was a dream to go and on my Disney bucket list. I didn't have the best experience because of how much was missing and we also had issues with our room. Our room wasn't being cleaned at all and we stayed for 5 days. We stayed in non DVC room with a view. We also had so many people trying to sell us DVC and it was pretty extreme. It was a disappointing experience for my husband and I. Aulani is a beautiful resort but a Disney Cruise is something that I would do in heartbeat. We just came from one and it was AMAZING!!!

I appreciate you being upfront about the costs. Hawaii is expensive. We have been four times, and alternated with Florida often due to the cost. Loved seeing how much fun Jackson had bathing suit swimming. So cute.

Do the DVC thing! ;-) But jokes aside, I can totally understand that you need a bit of time to think about it as it is indeed a big purchase, but like Tim said, in the long run....I think it will absolutely be worth it!
Thank you though for being so open about the costs and everything. Especially for people outside of the US, like me, it's sometimes a bit overwhelming when I look up a price for a trip like that.
It was so lovely to see a bit of Hawai'i and travel along with you guys :-) Thank you so so much!
OH by the way.... since our April 2020 WDW trip had to be cancelled .... we now instead have booked a Disney Cruise for February 2023 on the Disney Wish!!!! AAAHHHHHH We are SO excited and I really hope this trip won't have to be cancelled, fingers crossed! So I am already looking forward to your next cruise series :-) But like you said: for you as Floridians, that is 'an easy trip' cause you don't have to go far where as we will have to start searching for flights and extra hotel stays the night before and the night after the cruise and all that, so that would be making it extra expensive of course, but I will just be happy if this trip will actually happen! And it's a bit frustrating as there are no flights available for 2023 yet so to me this part of the booking process is always so stressful but worth it ;-)
