I honestly prefer to watch unsponsored, after-a-year reviews because it doesn't really get more honest than that.
So thank you for the video! I'd love to watch you do a more speedpaints, maybe camera recorded drawing like in this vid.
I'm really glad to hear that, thank you! I'm having some computer issues right now but I hope to get back to recording some speedpaints very soon
Hey everyone! I'm getting this question a lot, so I guess people missed it in the video! No, you CANNOT use this tablet without a computer. No, it's NOT portable. Hope that helps!
I want to thank you for the MOST through review I have found in 2 hours of searching. You were very clear, to the point and you didn't miss a single detail regarding the tablet. I am not an artist myself, but I am shopping around for a nice big tablet to get started with. You have seriously helped me with this review and I thank you.
I'm so glad you found it useful! I'm still relatively new to reviews, so I'm always worried whether I've covered all the points everyone will need. Your feedback is very encouraging especially since I have more reviews on the way - thank you!
Xylex Rayne You really should not make such a big investment if you are just starting out with digital art, and especially with art in general. A small Wacom screenless tablet will more than suffice.
@@applelayla4532 I agree with this advice for anyone else, but myself personally, I am a "Go big or go home" kind of guy.
For anyone else who reads this, Heed this advice. Don't jump on this for your first drawing tablet.
I know this is an old video but, when you say tilt sensitivity isn't there it's probably because on SAI no brushes support it sadly, tilt sensitivity was very present for me in some pencil brushes on CSP! Not only does the program have to support tilt, but the specific brush too. Tbh I have never used it much anyway though because I still stick to SAI in most of my workflow xD.
I love this tablet, I’ve had it a couple of years and it’s fantastic and I couldn’t be happier n_n
I'm glad to hear it! It's a scary investment to make but I'm really happy I did the same!
@@TheJovialBrit Hey, sorry, I was sure I replied to this but it seems I didn't! The stand is exactly the same as when I bought it. I didn't like the stand for the Companion range at all, but this is SUPER sturdy. It's not moving anywhere
Thumbs up on your review. I'm considering getting one second hand, or refurbised. I'm using astropad on my ipad pro for the time being. I just seem to outlast my pen pen and battery. I lay the pen down pretty hard, I'm not sure how much more punishment it can take.
Thank you for this detailed and thorough review! I am evaluating tablets for my college student, who is currently using an Intuos Pro as their tablet solution. The Intuos has performed well during high school and the first two years of college for my student, but now that their courses are becoming more challenging, I think a more robust tablet solution would be beneficial. I'm not prepared to purchase a really high end Cintiq, so I think the 22HD will suffice while they make the transfer over to this paradigm.
Thank you for this review! You really went in detail and I will be getting this!
I'm glad you found it helpful!
I have been needing a updated review on this! Thank you so much!
I hope it helps you! :D
Just picked up one of these for dirt cheap. Super excited to use it over my 15+ year old Intuos 3 😂
I just had this tablet given to me (it's broken, but I've got the problem figured out) and was wondering what it was like to work with as i have no experiance with such devices.. I did not expect to get all the great Critical Role artwork in the review! Hello fellow Critter!
Excellent review thank you. I just purchased one today for $170 USD, quite the steal.
This was very informative. I recently went from an intuos 4 to a Huion Kamvas GT156 pen display to hold me over until I can afford a cintiq. A friend of mine who is an illustrator stands by her 22HD, but when the pros came out, I was thinking I could either save up for their latest model or just get the 22HD. But the reviews of the 22HD weren't recent because it's an older model, but this was a fresh take from an artist who used it for over a year. I'll definitely keep your review in mind when I'm finally ready to purchase a cintiq. Thank you very much!
Thank you, I'm really glad to hear that! I noticed the same, reviews tend to be quite old because of how long ago this tablet came out, so I'm hoping this will help people a little :)
Fantastic Honest Review and some great art thanks for doing this :)
came for the review. subscribed for the art.
I'm just gonna drop this here:
I just got Wacoom Cintiq 22hd at work, and I can't say I love it, it came as an upgrade to my cintiq 13hd, which I had for 5 years now. The main reason why *I dislike my new cintiq is absolutely atrocious resolution size. My 13 one was 1920 x 1080 and this is 22, on SAME resolution. You can just see so much pixels it's sad.
maybe 16 would have been a better choice for you.... PErsonally I wish there was like an 18 size i think thats a good halfway point.
This is important....especially now that we've become accustomed to the non-pixelated viewing experience with the latest devices
Looks really good! Ima need this for Toon Boom
great review and beautiful beautiful drawings !!
hi, what's your take nowadays, 3 years on? i'm considering a bigger model from the 16hd.
Hi there!! I just inherited this Wacom, I´ll love to hear an update. Cheers from Colombia
I was about to buy a xp-pen, but after research it was clear that huion 22plus had better quality, but then after further research is became clear that none of these tablet companies are loyal to their customers grievances with faulty products, and that huions are notorious for falling apart and with shipping at the cost it is today, along with my origins of starting with a wacom tablet, I've decided the 22hd is for me. Plus there are some near new 2019 for discounted prices on ebay, so why not.
A fellow southpaw. Awesome
I have a 2019 cintiq 16. I’m thinking once I get the space and the reason for it I want to upgrade to a 22hd! Though I’m not settled on paying 1000+ usd for it, there are eBay listings that start at 300+ dollars but I’m scared because you’d usually haft to be wary buying refurbished or pre owned devices from 3rd party dealers @-@
Great video and detailed review, I had the cintiq pro 16 inches and one day I updated it then the following day it stopped working, it won't turn on, I had before another wacom tablets but they were pen tablets not displays, now I don't know if wacom products worth the money or not , I searched everywhere and also their website and couldn't find a solution because it simply won't even turn on, and I purchased it through a company that buys things for you so I can't really contact them they're just buying the things because at some point amazon wasn't sending to Egypt, don't know really what to say....
Hey , i just hope you sorted this out
unfortunatly no, I contacted wacom back then , they reply that they couldn't do anything to me because I didn't buy it directly from them and also I couldn't find a solution online , then I purchased a huion graphic tablet it's not a monitor it's just a graphic tablet but I like it so far not bad .
Thank you so much!
Where can I get the stand! I bought this from a school friend but it didn’t include the stand. I can’t find anything that fits it on Amazon
would this work for construction or architectural plans so you can mark up over a set of plans?
Do you think still worth it to buy this model in 2019? A lotta doubts here... seeing the new 22 model to buy it, but... tks! great review!
I can't offer a comparison between this and the new 22 because I don't have one. The resolution and pressure levels of this tablet are definitely 'behind the times' compared to a lot of new models, so it may be worthwhile buying a newer model if you feel those features are very important to you. The main difference is the new 22 is classed as 'entry level', whereas this is classed as an industry standard model, so the stand is different, it has less expresskeys etc. It completely depends what you're after.
Well that's what i'm thinking too,i really dunno what to do
As big and clunky as this thing is, I used one for over two years at a 9 to 5 job and it was a great experience. It just works. I've got a mobile studio pro and after a year of using it every day I want to fucking smash it. The screen is so thin it's developing a massive patch of dead pixels and I truly don't press hard on the screen. Not to mention there are an infinite number of bugs/issues which completely kill the experience. PSA do not buy a mobile studio pro.
I have a friend whose mobile studio pro just had half the screen go black suddenly, and Wacom charged her £800 for repairs even though she hadn't done anything to it. I don't understand how they can get this tablet so right, and some others so wrong.
my only worry with this tablet is it's 7 years old now so how much longer will they have drivers for it, i currently have the 21ux and they dont have drivers for it anymore :(
@El Jay one thing is for certain. This tablet is more than enough to 99.99% of us since we do not have the talent or skill or skill and talent to utilize everything it can offer. I mean the pro artists in industrial design (one of the best artists of current era in my opinion) , some of them still use wacom intuos 3.
@El Jay I am always glad when I hear someone who made it finally. Gj on the job and the tablet. (Did you take courses or selfeducated yourself?) I also have this tablet for almost 6 years now...I haven't worked on it much and I am just starting at the basics again so I am on traditional media for a couple of months again. I plan to invest in some grey prismakolor markers for shading practices...I was actually drawing my whole life but not hardcore... Anyways, do you know Aaron Blaise? A great great 2d cartoonist.
@El Jay Oh I forgot the parallax :) It is clearly present, yes, but if you set up the pen correctly it is pretty okey...You get used to it like everything else if you keep doing over and over again.
@El Jay hey ..i'm happy you got it ..i really wanna know how it compares to the new 22 Hd too ..and i'm investing a lot of money in it and it's preowned..so i'm reay scared and confused ...
A question.
is the Wacom Cintiq 22HD dtk 2200?
Awersome!
Hey, if you happen to see this comment, at 10:00 you talk about the screen differences/textures that mess with the image quality in the different releases. My model is from 2014 and I think I can see what you mean. I was wondering what year/month your model is if you still have the factory sticker on the back.
Really good review, one thing I would like to know:
Did you ever stream with this tablet?
And if so: Is there something needed like a streaming deck?
This is not a computer, just a monitor, so if you can stream on your computer then yes, you can stream!
@@RBIllustration Thanks a lot! : )
@@unpeudetout4235 Thanks a lot! :)
That was a really good insight on this tablet. However, I do have a question about the express keys. Can each of the 18 express keys be set to a unique key, or is it symmetrical? For example, if you wanted to set a key to the top right button on the tablet, would it be the only button set, or would button on the opposite side also be set to the same key?
They can all be set to a unique key! I recently tested it out because I had to unplug my keyboard for a bit, so I programmed the expresskeys on the opposite side to my normal keyboard shortcuts.
Hello, Do you know when was released wacom 22hd with new glass texture?? Is there any option to check it from the production number? I've got one 22hd touch to buy, but the seller dont know the production year.
thanks
Thank you for this review! Is it possible to use it as a non-display tablet, so drawing on another screen, with the cintiq display unplugged and the USB plugged in? My current setup is a 4k screen with an intuos4 XL and a laptop (1 video out port), I'm not entirely set on giving up the 4k screen 100% of the time.
R.I.P Mollymauk!
Hello! I am currently asking my parents for a screen tablet for my birthday ( I never ask for anything, so my putting this wish to good use). Im not sure if you have tested any other tablets, but I’m currently stuck between stretching a limb by either asking for this tablet, the new cinitiq or something like the xp pen 22e. I would like a bigger screen but I’m not sure what to do. Should I simply get on of these alternatives and try to save up for a newer model dinting? I’m just so confused ;n;
My advice is to get the models that are ment to last, the newer models are meant to eaither brake so you buy replacment accessories, or are testing out new software/hardware. Just watch a crap ton of reviews on one item that catches you're fansy and you'll find what your looking for without regrets.
Hi, I'm afraid I really can't advise on other brands because I've only ever used Wacom tablets (and one Trust tablet which I started out with and it broke pretty much immediately). I've heard a lot of positive reviews on the XP-pen but I also have a friend who bought one and had to send it back because of calibration issues. Same with the Huion alternatives. There are pros and cons to all of them. The main con for the Wacom models is the cost, but they're built to last. I would be nervous about advising you to go with a Cintiq for your first screen tablet just in case you don't like it - all I can say is that it's what works for me. Sorry I can't be of more help!
Ayeeeee is that Shiro and Keith @ 2:50??? Are you a Sheith shipper?? That used to be my ship!!!
Maybe someday I can afford a screen tablet.... 😥 Thanks for the information in the video!
I can get one for €500,- Do you think that this would be a good purchase in 2021?
Hi , Thank you for the wonderful review! Do you have plans to review the XP-Pen Artist 24 Pro drawing display 24" ? It has a lot of updated features like 2560 X 1440 resolution screen and claimed 90% RGB gamut so I'm interested in what you might think.
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it! XP-Pen recently contacted me asking me to review one of their products but it was one I'd already reviewed, so I suggested I could try one of their screen tablets but they didn't reply, so unfortunately I'm going to presume that's a no
Just wondering, since I ordered a used one of these yesterday, if anyone can tell me what sort of adapter it needs to work with mac? Thanks!
Rachel Harden a dvi adapter! you can get one that connects to your mac on amazon or you can try to search for one in your local tech store like best buy, they might have some!
@@alexiav9172 Thanks a bunch! 😊
Would you recommend this compared to the new cintiq 22
I couldn't give any recommendations based on the new models because I've never used them
Do you need to hook this to you're computer to work it beacause I cant
Yes, you need a computer for it to work
Hello! Cool video!
What was the name of the website you bought theirs from please ?
Thanks! It's from www.wexphotovideo.com/ :)
Still holding up to this day? Seeing a lot of eBay deals for this model lately...I'm on the fence about it, model's gotten quite old and I fear Wacom is gonna quit support for it.
Still going! 7 years old now and used all day, every day since I'm now fulltime freelance. I won't lie, given what I've heard of Wacom's newest models and their customer service, I don't think I would buy another Wacom when it does eventually give up on me. It sounds like the 22HD was the last good model. But I'm very impressed with it
@@RBIllustration Wow. Guess I'll have to grab one of these! The only thing that holds me back is the fact that it doesn't have a HDMI connector. Another seemingly popular model is the 16-inch 1660 model. Heard anything good about it? Perhaps I should go for a newer model from the "competitor" brands.
pls pls make more vids
this works with all pcs rite
Hello, greetings from Brazil. One question, which program are you using to draw? Thanks
She using Paint tool Sai
👍
Is this better than the new cintiq 22
Send me one and I'll tell you
Wacom Cintiq 22HD or Wacom Cintiq pro 16 ? Which one would be better
16 . dù sao thì bản 22HD này cũng đã cũ rồi á
Will this work with a Laptop?
Yes!
Critical role!
Is it completely necessary to have a computer to work with this tablet, or can you work with it on its own? I would like to get this tablet to work on art and I have a small Chromebook, and I don’t want my lack of a larger laptop to hinder my art. Can anyone advice me on this?
This tablet is essentially just a screen that you draw on, it can't function without a computer. As for Chromebook compatibility, I'm not sure I'm afraid. From what I can tell, it looks like drawing tablets should work on ChromeOS, but some people are saying the pressure sensitivity doesn't work, so it's probably best to contact Wacom with that question.
Let's hit like till RB gets a free Wacom!!
What program are you using? I like the close up, that you're drawing on, and the zoomed out view right next to it.
I was using Paint Tool SAI in this video, but you can do that with most art software!
Is this a Laminate screen?
This tablet looks so cool! I’m getting an iPad Pro though...do you think it’s a good choice?
Yeah, the ipad pro is really nice to use! I have the 10.5" one. I did have to get a matte screen protector and a silicone grip for the pen to make them more comfortable to use, but that's my personal preference. The tilt/pressure sensitivity is really nice though
Rebecca Blackwell Read OMG you are making me even more excited 😆😊
Rebecca, which matte screen protector did you get for your ipad? Loved your review. You may have talked me out of the Kamvas 22pro. The cintiq looks to be more stable and solid to draw on even if I put the Ergotron arm on the Kamvas. Thoughts?
Do you think a used 22hd is worth it? i read that the lifespan was 5 years so i kinda feel iffy.
I know people who've owned 22HDs for longer than 5 years and I hope mine will last longer too! It depends on the condition, age and cost of the one you're buying I suppose. If it's over £800 or so, I'd probably save the extra to buy new.
Only 5 years ?? I
How do you change the brightness of the screen?
The button on the top right!
Rebecca Blackwell Read Thanks for the reply! Yea, I figured, but the menu is half off the screen, and it can’t be dragged. Weird problem.
This is kinda a weird question to ask cuz this is a tablet but, this is nothing like a computer? Like, you can’t watch CZcams or use Discord on it? Sorry for weird question T~T
No worries, ask away! No, this is not a computer. It's just a monitor. It has no operating system of its own and doesn't work independently. I hope that helps! :)
Rebecca Blackwell Read Okay thank you for the answer :p
Hi Rebecca, I was just curious is your address the same or did you changed it?
Still the same! Unit 17440, PO Box 6945, London, W1A 6US, UK
Thanks! I just wanted to make sure that my letter gets to the right place.
@@Talimediaart Aw thank you! I look forward to receiving it :D
@@RBIllustration You're Welcome Rebecca!
Is this tablet still worth buying it today?
It depends what features you want! Like I said to someone else in the comments, this is now a little 'behind the times' in terms of pressure sensitivity and resolution, but it's still a solid tablet that will last you a long time.
do you have any fan noise issue or dead pixels?
No, I haven't had either of those so far!
Does it come with the wacom pen 2?
