I've been entranced by in-depth LOTR lore for a while bow and during the video, my thoughts actually drifted towards the two trees.
And when he actually showed a picture of Tolkien, I immediately knew where he was going with it and I was amazed because it just fit so perfectly.
For a while there, I thought I ended up watching an in-deep-geek video. I didn't ever expect to watch a video where two passions of mine as dissimilar as those ever met. Made my day xD

The pair instability supernova sounds a lot like a hydrogen bomb if you think of it. You have a sudden inward compression of the star's core causing runaway fusion, same as a series of atom bombs compressing a man-made core until it undergoes runaway fusion. It's like an H-bomb is a mini supernova. Kind of ironic that these supernovae seeded the universe with the elements that let us exist yet we risk destroying ourselves with our own homemade supernovae.

"that pressure turns the nuclear fire in the center up to eleven"
    I died....
It's impossible to describe with words how much I love this channel.
It keeps me sane in this bizarre year.
I don't want to overload you with superlatives, but rarely have I been inspired like this since the great Carl Sagan.
Your ability to explain very complex stuff to idiots like me, is a true gift.
I will definitely pick up where I left 30 years ago, when young me thought bars and pubs and girls were more interesting than maths and physics.
I'll definitely start a cosmology course when I retire.
Simply because I want a deeper understanding.
    Thanks again!

One of the biggest regrets of my life has been not pursuing astronomy or astrophysics or anything related to cosmos basically. I’m a mechanical engineer instead, and although my work is still massively influenced by the laws of physics and practical science (and it is fun to some extent), i wonder sometimes how interesting it would’ve been to explore and learn about the cosmos professionally. But since that’s not possible anymore, your videos, my sir, have been an absolute delight. Thank you so much for that.

Thanks David, that was sublime. I’ve always been fascinated by the concept of Population lll stars. The possibility of the continued existence of the smallest and thus potentially long lived members of these first stars is wonderful. I’m also a huge fan of JRR Tolkien and appreciated your references from Ainulindalë and Valenquenta concerning the first light sources of Eä, ergo The 2 Lamps followed by the 2 trees Telperion and Laurelin which after their destruction by Melkor and Ungoliant yielded a single flower and fruit which became our moon and sun. 3 generations.

It has been a few months since I subscribed to your channel, it took only 2 or 3 of your segments.
For whatever the reason, your videos, your voice, your musical choices, have such an astonishingly calming effect on my mind, they simply resonate in a perfect pitch with my inner peace of mind, something I can hardly ever reach on my own, as if there was a shut door I can never open.
It is such a strange and strong effect that sometimes, after a days work, the struggles of a dying marriage, the attempts of keeping a smiling positively energized aura for my child to be around, I just come here in my studio, put one of your videos on, lay down on the carpet and just close my eyes to listen.
I am totally loving how it transports me away, brings me calm and peace, allows find my inner strength and positivity, recharges my mind, and all of this, while I am literally getting educated on the subject I love the most, space, the place of our birth where everything comes from and everything will end at its own time and terms.
It stimulates my imagination to just picture the depth of space, with stars, remnants of supernovae, galaxies, gas clouds, black holes with enormous and powerfully luminous accretion disks, and all there is out there. While I lay down on the floor, the music quietly plays, and I imagine myself flying through all of that, in peaceful silence, gently cradled by the notes, as my mind revs down and comes to a state of equilibrium.
There is no doubt you are a highly educated and competent scientist, but that is nothing if compared to the love and passion you put into making these pieces of artistry, which to me, seems to be your ultimate true talent.
All I can say is "THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU" for just merely existing at my same time, and having fallen in love with your job, which you do so magnificently well, and thanks to which, I can reset my mind, find piece, strength, nurture my love for science and space, in the hope to foster all of this into my child, day by day, video by video, soundtrack by soundtrack, for the years to come.
I am sorry I can't say I will support you with an arbitrary multiple-digit "n" amount of Euros or $, as I don't have that ability, but I will surely buy some of your merch, and more surely, will be sharing your wonderful stuff with people, in words, posts and whatever other way I can.
Once again, THANK YOU, and please, PLEASE, never stop!!!

So eloquent. I'm proud to be the treasure in the trash of David Kipping's universe.
The Cool Worlds astronomy videos are unbelievably rewarding; they easily surpass anything else on CZcams in the sciences, and the competition has really heated up amongst credible, intelligent presentations in both the sciences and humanities.
We have to thank Dr. David Kipping and his lab for the intellectual depth of their work and for his ability to explicate that work so compellingly. It's a treat; if only every class we ever took was this quality.
