  • In this video, I restore a Vintage Multi Tool Hatchet Hammer Tomahawk.
A little background to this project. A good friend of mine gave me this versatile tool. He found it in the ground. And he didn't throw it away. After taking a couple of photos, he sent them to me. He asked, "Andi, would you like to tinker with this old rusty instrument?"
I happily answered in the affirmative. A couple of days later I received the package. From that moment, the restoration process began.
In the video, you can follow the entire process of restoration, starting from cleaning large rust by electrolysis, leveling the surface with grinding wheels of different grain sizes, polishing the tool to a shine, making a new handle from wood.

Owned one of those in the early 1970s. Great demolition tool. Really great for breaking down wooden pallets.
When I bought mine new it was covered in black rust and there was no polish anywhere. Yours looks way better.

I have one of these which I also restored, I was led to believe it's called a packing case hammer, Warehouse workers all had them in the 30s and 40s to open crates, repair pallets, etc .

Thank you very much!!! But as far as I know, it was a universal travel tool. If I'm wrong you can correct me.

@@AnDIY_Handmade_Restoration I'm not sure that you're wrong. I just knew some guys that worked on the docks for domestic and international shipping and that's what they called them. I see them at a lot of military surplus stores also though.

Pretty nice job, but not really worth it. The tool is called a crate tool. It was made for dismantling wooden packing crates. These can be bought online for less than $20.00 just about anywhere. I bought one with a neoprene handle at Walmart for less than $10.00. I have it in me EDC backpack, which goes to work with me every day.

Thats an old roofing tool. Back when rooves were made from cedar shingles. it had a hammer and a pry bar for nails and the blade to split the shingles.
