- We spend a full day at the Medieval Center in Lolland, Denmark. The Middelaldercentret is a super cool place for kids, families, and adults. You get an immersive experience with the chance to talk to living historians. With a range of volunteers, you are bound to learn a ton about the Medieval times as you walk through the old city, watch a joust, or learn how to be a archer.
Also, the trebuchet is amazing! It is a rare sight to see one in action!

Middelalder Centret, a great place to spend time; speaking from experience, especially if you have younger boys! 😉
The fireball trebuchet is so cool at the end of the season, when the evenings start to get a little darker...👍
Have you been to Knuthenborg Park?
- not far from the Center
If you enjoyed yourselves, you should go to Ribe. The Viking Center there is worth visiting...where you get another taste of historic Denmark 😃
hello from Hundested 🌸🌱
We did go to the safari park before we had the channel. But we plan to go back at some point to talk about it here. It is cool!
holy crap miranda, you nailed that Ø in Nykøbing.... you are becoming danish so well
How adorable. My mom used to care for some of the horses used in the jousts in the off-season. It was always fun because those beasts are enormous and my mom is like 155. It's incredible how many volunteers it takes to keep that place running.
Cool!
My grandparents are from just outside Nykøbing Falster, and so during my childhood I've been to Middelaldercentret several times with them and my siblings. So cool to see you visiting, thanks for another great video!
Red Hair a bow almost like Merida from Brave.
Also fun to see how Maya puffed up proudly as you told us all her instructions were in danish :D
And it is fun shooting a bow, used to do it before backproblems prevented me, I would recommend people to try it out, does require some good concentration and it is really relaxing.
Lastly, if you havent, next time you come across/visit Fyn, you should visit Den Fynske Landsby if you are interested in old timie history.
Yeah it is on our list. I’ve emailed with them a couple of times I just need to find the right time to go.
Hope you will have a good time when/if you get to go, has been many years since I was there myself, even living in town.@@TravelinYoung
Can also recommend Egeskov Slot if/when you come to Fyn, but I am sure you already know about that place :)
Good and interesting video, thank you very much.
Middelaldercentret is an awesome place to learn about the everyday lives of the people back then.
I'm a bit of a medieval nerd, so I found this video particularly interesting.
Considering the tools and technology available at the time, it's amazing what they could craft and do
The art sword duelling is a thing, it's called HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts), so Maya is absolutely right about it being like a martial arts style ^^
It's super fun and very good exercise, I'm the same age as Josh, so I'll never be really good at it, but it's still really fun
I hope you all have a nice weekend
Thanks! It is a very cool place to visit. You have a great weekend also!
Jeg synes i er søde, intelligente og smukke. Det glæder mig at i bidrager til forståelsen mellem kulturer, og at i gør det på en afslappet og naturlig måde.
This is a must visit, well worth the journey from Copenhagen. A super place.
This looked so much fun, great to see that Denmark is more then Copenhagen :-)
true
Denmark is anything but Copenhagen 😉
I've shared your video in the Facebook-group "Lolland-Falster Lovestorm"
Sweet thanks!!
The Andelslandsbyen Nyvang in Holbæk is another museum with volunteers acting out jobs, with the focus on the co-op movement. So very similar to the Frilandsmuseet.
Cool!
Thank you for showing us Denmark with fresh eyes. We are so much going to visit Middelaldercenteret🤩
You are welcome! So cool you are going to go :).
Oh you been in my part of Denmark, I'm from Nykøbing Falster
Thx guys 😊😊😊
That was fascinating. I never heard of this place. So cool
Big Trebuchet is sooooo amazing. Worth the entire trip down there.
Many years ago they found remnants of a ship in a canal on Falster, in Bødø! It is a combined version of a flat bottom, German Kogge and a Viking ship in the top, so they expected it to become rather known internationally. But as no foreigner would be able to pronounce "Bødø", they changed its name to "Gedesby skibet"! I think they have a rebuilt copy at Middelalder Centeret? 😅
Interesting as always 👍
thanks for sharing your experience with all of us 👍😀
You are welcome!
You should go and experience the "Vikingetræf" in Aarhus. It's great fun with food, "fights" (where the home team always wins 😃) and small booths where you can buy jewellery, utensils etc. And it's placed near Moesgaard Museum in the woods facing down on the beach.
I suspect next summer will be filled with Viking festivals for us since so many have been cancelled yet again.
@@TravelinYoung theres still alot of viking markets as far as i know. Im going to one here in North Jutland in September :)
Following the progress from your first video. Fanstatic development in danish pronounciation!
Now the "flade D".
Tongues out! Like in ¨"The" ;-)
well done Maya on the instructions. WAAAAY ahead of mom and dad ;-)
Enjoy your videos so much. Im Danish myself but live abroad, so super fun to see Denmark throw your eyes
Love you all , love to get your perspective off our Danish culture ;-)
Thanks!
I love outdoor historic museums
You just get a whole other experience from it plus I learn way Easier with hands on experience then reading a information tile and seeing a little model or something like that
I saw Josh at my local coffee shop in Copenhagen the other day. For a moment I considered getting up from my couch and going to say hi and thanks for the videos but thought that was a bit much so now I am just going to say it here XD Thanks for the videos, they are nice and cozy to watch with my morning coffee before the day starts, in a coffee shop or just at home.
You are welcome and thanks for saying hi here :). But if you see us out and about feel free to stop us to say hello. We would love it. I am glad to hear you like our content, thanks for saying that.
Noget af den bedste lyd og video kvalitet på CZcams, i har virkeligt styr på det. 👍
Nice seeing you in my neck of the woods!
Glad we could make it there :).
Been to a iron age camp near Vejle for 5 days with my kids,, real great time. Always wanted to get around the medieval canter. Thanks for the view on it.
Cool, you should go!
Hungry games. Whatever the heart is full of😅😂. Had a great laugh about the sword juggling thing 😄
Oh my.. you should keep a look out for the open house events in September. The Danish archery union has opened all the clubs for new members in September..
I'll check that out, thank you for the information ^^
Thanks so much for this! We'll definitely look into it 🙌🏹
@@TravelinYoung No problem.. I figure the virus is under control in September, so it's business as usual this summer 😎
@@TheNetsrac yeah do that. It's loads of fun..
Love the Star wars shirt!
WEEEEE! I'm in the video (for four seconds - and only my hands (4:48)).
Ha! I wish we had time to show more of the living history part. I would love to come back and learn how to spin! It wad so lovely meeting you! 🧶 - M
@@TravelinYoung I can teach you to spin in like ten minutes. Maybe some other day or some other place :)
Miranda seems more than ready to be a Trebuchéss :P
Haha, true!
Wow, so great to see! I can wait to go there myself next week. I spent two weeks there every year with my daughters. It’s such a great time hanging out with all the other lovely and super knowledge nerds❤️ (ps: I’m going to go pick up those trebuchet balls in the canal Josh😅)
That sounds cool, enjoy!
I was born in Denmark in 1972, and you have already seen more of Denmark than i have 😲
Guess that's a call to explore some more of Denmark going forward. Its not too late to grab a travel pass, and I saw in some government deals that there's money set aside to continue the sale of such in 2022.
Did you have FUN at LOL-land? ;P
I feel the world needs a medieval or viking center collab between you guys and Robe Trotting. Maybe an archery competition hmm? :)
When I saw them firing the trebuchet I found out that i've been to that place many years ago. Nothing was open at the time, so we were only there shortly
Middelalder Centret was one of my favorite places to go. It used to have a falconer show too..
The falconeers will be there in week 29 this year (I think ... or 30)
Oh my! We love falconry shows. LOVE!
@@TravelinYoung middelaldercentret.dk/20-25-juli-falconershow/
It's a bit misleading in the image - they won't arrive until the 22nd. I may see you there (albeit in present day clothes).
Yo you'll love what I'm about to tell you then. There are dedicated Falconry places all over Denmark with shows and experiences. One even allows you to hold one the birds for an upcharge. That's the one on Samsø btw. But yeah they're great and most of them feature a vast variety of birds from Owls to Vultures. American Bald Eagles are also a part of a lot of the shows and are quite popular with the public (thanks American media and all its patriotism)
But anyways, here are a few dedicated places with shows that I know of:
Falkonergården (Fredensborg, North Zealand)
Bornholms Rovfugleshow (Nyker, Bornholm)
Falkecenter Samsø (Permelille, Samsø)
Ørnereservatet - Eagleworld (Ålbæk, Northern Jutland)
Silkeborg Ørnereservat (Silkeborg, Jutland Lake Highlands/Søhøjlandet).
Hello to all 4 of you 😊 thanks for yey another great video.
I love the fact that you also went to Krenkerup. And yes I agree, the beers there are great.
Fun question. Do you ever have a moment where the females in you home kindda "gang up" on pool husband/dad 😝🤣
Haha, of course. But I’ve got brisket on my side :).
My family and me I think are goin there at the end of this month. :D
you were to take and try came to Hjerl heath here in central and western Jutland 👍🏻😊
Almost in my back yard, only 10 minutes away :-)
places to visit: Bornholm, Samsø, Røsnæs, Skagen, Vadehavet, Tivoli (u been there already for sure), H.C. Andersens home in Odense, Roskilde Cathedral and The Vikingshipmusuem
Oh. Thats right where i live. Watching you on the medieval center i rally wish you would go to the brewery. And you did. It is not in nykøbing falster. But in sakskøbing or radsted. I Hope you liked the beer :)
The beer is fantastic!
You should visit Sagnlandet Lejre for a similar experience about ancient Denmark (from the stone age to the viking age)
I feel like there should have been a #trebutchet in the description of this video, the trebutchet craze might have died out, but hey gotta feed the algorythm overlords
holy shit i never knew trebuchet was that huge
I think your dog will be a parrot :-)
lol
Middelaldercenteret is a place of official middle-age scientific research too.
Absolutely! Impressive all around :).
There is an excellent archery club in Lyngby by the stadium, if Maya wants to do it as sport...
Cool, thanks for the heads up!
I skal også tage en tur til Frilandsmuseum i Vinderup i Jylland 😊
if you need a new place to visit then trye visit frederikshavn we have a lot to se :)
Somehow there is always a brewery nearby ;)
Thanks Denmark :).
Interesting enough we have one of the worlds largest brewery companys in Carlsberg and yet we have houndreds of small local breweries too - making better beer than Carlsberg.
Sorry for asking but where was it they said they were recently?
Omø
@@TravelinYoung crazy not much bigger than a "holm" you been everywhere 👍
Krenkerup beer is the best.
Super good, I agree!
You should have ended the hot day, with a swim at Denmark's most beautiful bathing beach Marielyst
15:15
Well, there is a reason that sword fighting clubs are called HEMA clubs.
HEMA is short for Historical European Martial Arts.
On your next try it on Tuesday you could juggle Miranda, Maya and Brisket. Thats three things 😎😎😎 Oe maybe youbhave to juggle them everyday, anyway? 😀
Haha!
Prøv Trelleborg i Slagelse.
Og lejre , saga land ved Roskilde . 🙂✌️
I hope you can read this den stor katapult der er en god gammel dages blide 😇🇩🇰
Omg i see me im middel ages kid
I live an ok walking distance from there, it's a really nice place to be as a guest... But working there is a nightmare, because they employ people that are receiving financial help (kontanthjælp), people have been forced to do work that made old injuries worse, plus one of the knights were fired not to long ago (maybe a year or two) because they didn't want to pay insurance from what i've heard, what happened was he fell of his horse and has some brain damage now.
Its crazy really we need Americans to tells how awesome stuff is around the country :) most will be, uhh summer we can travel again, Mallorca here we come.
Haha, stay in DK I say :).
Yeah xD
Mid-evil. :-D
Your daughter is so cute and beautiful
Thank you for the visit. It was a pleasure having you. I'm sorry we didn't get to meet but I can see thst you did get to enjoy the day to the fullest. Thit, curator at The Medieval Centre 😊
