@@TheCommenterDragon I think maybe he was portrayed that way because the outsiders didn't have a lot of food and water and I'm pretty sure that the majority of it went to Kovu because Zira and the outsiders knew he was Scar's chosen heir and wanted to have him as strong as possible in hopes that he could take back the throne. Meaning Nuka, Vitani, and the other lionesses were starved. Nuka to me looked like he was struggling throughout the movie, he didn't look like he had a lot of strength and appeared much weaker than Kovu in addition to not having a full mane. I think he was probably the most neglected out of Zira's children because his younger siblings appear to be be much stronger and the only thing Nuka really spoke about was making his mother proud and wanting to get revenge. In the end he basically sacrificed himself for his mother who never really seemed to appreciate him. The creators of the movie probably created him to look like that to reflect on how much struggle the outsiders went through. If Kovu left the outsiders earlier and all the food and riches started going to Nuka he probably would've looked a lot stronger and more similar to Kovu.

In thinking about the moment where Zira offers up Kovu, there's something else that should be pointed-out. This scene could be seen in two different ways: One way to view it is that Zira was playing head-games and was trying to see that if Simba took Kovu with him then she could've gone back to her pride saying that Simba took Kovu while not mentioning that she urged him to do it and was going to try to play innocent with her fellow lions. In telling them that Simba took Kovu, this would have only angered the outlanders even more and it would also be something to hold over Simba's head for the rest of his life. However, the second way to look at this is from Kovu's perspective. Remember that Kovu at this moment in the film is a terrified little cub and to him at this stage in his life, Simba is gigantic, powerful and fearsome. To Kovu this is Zira sticking that terrifying mental image of Simba in his mind accompanied with all of the horrible stories that she's told of him. And in addition to these facts are the facts that Simba is the King-the ruler-, that both he and his mother are in Simba's land and that the pride-landers are loyal to Simba and have the outlanders greatly out numbered and furthermore unlike Simba who had back-up with him, Zira didn't bring any support which meant that had there been a fight, she could have easily very lost. All of this is subliminally saying to Kovu that this is your opponent (your enemy) and if he wanted to, he could very easily destroy you and your mother. By doing so, this is Zira's way of controlling and manipulating her son in order to help shape him into the killer heir that she wanted. So really from both angles Zira is playing head-games with both Simba and Kovu.

Scar traumatized Simba's life not just by killing his father Mufasa, but by lying to him throughout his life. Scar told Simba that the "surprise" he had for him was "to die for", which is usually understood as an expression, but Scar meant it literally.
Scar also made Simba believe that it was his own fault his father was dead. Throughout his life, from cub to adult lion, Simba did not know that really Scar murdered his father, so that he (Scar) could claim the throne. Simba only found this TRUTH out towards the end of The Lion King.

  • @daniellemusella1594
    @daniellemusella1594 Před 3 lety +9

1] When I was a kid and saw this movie for the first time, I assumed that Nuka was Scar's biological son, which would continue the cycle of brotherly jealousy. I also thought that Kovu and Vitani were twins, conceived after Scar saw how sickly/unworthy his own child was and advised Zira to find a different sire for her next cub. He probably killed that other lion, once the pregnancy was accomplished. Both aspects seem like the type of cold-hearted thing(s) he would've done.
2] I've always had two "what if" scenarios in my mind, related to how the story could've turned out differently:
*Everything plays out the same, right up until the moment where Simba says that he'd like to talk with Kovu in private. I've imagined Kovu replying that he actually needed to talk with everyone, and he'd go on to explain his mother's plan to Kiara and her parents, as well as Zazu, Timon, and Pumbaa. Shocked by what he'd hear, along with now being fully-assured of Kovu's true character, Simba would gather his lionesses and set out to meet Zira and her pride. Completely unaware, Zira, Nuka, Vitani, and the rest would approach Simba and Kovu and taunt them as before. As they are about to pounce, the Pride Land lionesses, including Nala and Kiara, would jump out of the bushes. There would be no misguided banishment scene, and the battle would probably take place much sooner. Because of the unexpected counter-ambush, though, it would probably be broken up in two. Zira and her group would temporarily retreat. Nuka would probably still be fatally injured, but in a different way, and despite still following her mother, Vitani would now begin to realize how warped Zira's quest for vengeance truly was. After that, events would probably play out pretty close to what happened in the movie.
*Kovu could've run away from the Outlands during his cub-hood, probably soon after the chaotic first meeting with Simba and the rest of his pride. I can picture the little guy, waking up in the middle of the night and looking around at the sleeping pride. He'd focus hard on his mother, and everything she'd been trying to teach him would rush through his brain. He'd think about the fun he had with Kiara, the looks of love that her parents gave her, and how he'd never felt that from Zira before. Stewing over this, he'd begin to cry, and he'd make his decision. As quiet as possible, he would sneak through the desert to the border between the Outlands and the Pride Lands. He'd believe that he stood a better chance at appealing to Simba directly and privately, knowing that the king was clearly unwilling to harm a child. He'd climb up the side of Pride Rock, and like in the original timeline in adulthood, he'd find a spot near the mouth of the main cave to sleep. Simba would, of course, find him in the morning, and after hearing his shout, Nala and Kiara would be at his side in seconds. Kiara would be happy to see Kovu again, and from there would begin the story and begging to stay. After some serious cajoling, most of it off to the side from Nala, Simba would prove Kovu's hope to be justified, and he'd take the cub in. Even within this, there are two mini-paths the story could take, and they originate from whether or not Vitani would follow her brother to the Pride Lands. She might wake up and discover him, leaving. They'd have a brief, but deep conversation, and she would decide whether to stay or go. The creative side of my brain goes fuzzy from there.

I personally believe Simba would not let Zira’s kids back in because: 1) he was so paranoid about Scar somehow happening again and 2) he was trying way too hard to be exactly like Mufasa. Which by the way, he should NOT have done. He should have just been himself and done things his own way.
Fanfiction writers will say it’s because Zira killed (or tried to kill) Kopa, and I think that does make a good story concept, if you accept Kopa as canon (I do).

@@iamnothuman77dartdontlie66 you got that correct. Kopa is too very valuable that he deserves to be part of Canon. Besides, I love Kopa. He’s one of my top favorite The Lion King/The Lion Guard characters. Besides, if Simba’s origin in being overprotective of Kiara is from the trauma he suffered after Mufasa’s death, then Simba facing his past and putting it behind him would have been for nothing. And besides, if Kopa were really dead, him being a Cub at the time would not exempt him from becoming a Great Lion of the Past as regardless of age, Lions become Great Lions of the Past through real death, not comas nor disappearances while their bodies become the grass overtime. And besides, in The Lion Guard the best way Simba could have found out if Kopa is still alive is that he tells Kion about Kopa and then Kion talks to Mufasa to see if it is true that Kopa completed his journey on the Circle of Life. And then Mufasa reveals that Kopa never did despite Kopa appearing dead after Zira’s attack. And then Kion would ask Mufasa where Kopa is, and Mufasa would give Kion Kopa’s location. And then Simba would be very shocked 😳 😮 😯 that Kopa never completed his journey on the Circle of Life and would be more than just excited to see Kopa again. And I even bet Kopa would be very happy to meet his little brother Kion.

Having dreamed of the future and determined to change it, Simba takes in Kovu to be Kiara's friend from the beginning. To be fair, this was before I was even aware of the Lion Guard so I had no way of having Kion or anyone else in that show being relevant. From a viewers point, it would have made sense to take in Kovu because we know that he isn't like Scar, but can you really blame Simba for not trusting the heir of his worst enemy?
I blame Rafiki for not telling Simba about Mufasa's message to him, I think if Simba had been given the proper counsel he could have found a way to bring peace among the prides before a war broke out. Simba spent the majority of his life as an outcast, he didn't know how to rule, and being better than Scar does not mean you are a good ruler. The movie is so under rated because it just does such a great job of showing Simba's internal conflict as a B plot, and teh A plot showing us that Kovu isn't such a bad guy, it made the movie feel very real.

In TLK2 she’s portrayed as a lioness trained to be a weapon instead of having her own beliefs. So if Vitani with her personality in the movie met Kiara she probably would’ve attacked her because she was a pridelander in the outlands.

That's an interesting theory. It really fuels the imagination on what could've happened if this occurred in the movie.

I mean seriously Zira, Kovu and the other outlanders have NO reason to exist when you consider the context of the original movie

I think it makes some sense because even though the first movie was focused on Simba, how he ran away after Scar blamed him for his father's death, and eventually returned to take down his uncle. We do see that not all of the lionesses are happy about Scar taking over and refuse to see him as a king or leader. He was however part of the pride for a very long time even before taking over as a leader so it's possible that throughout his life some lionesses like Zira could've gotten to know him and chose to stay loyal to him. It would make more sense if we had a movie showing what happened before the Lion King took place. Scar wasn't a good leader and plotted his plan with Hyenas for a long time but just like some lionesses refused to see him as a king others could've seen it differently because we don't know the full picture of what happened under Scars rule after Simba ran away and before he returned.

And also about Kovu’s real name. I think that his parents originally named him Liso, but Zira killed them and renamed Liso Kovu, since Kovu is Swahili for Scar.

A lot to take in, but I like to think that this video sure elaborated what would have happened if Simba took Kovu in such as the pointers with the healing beginning at a much earlier time, and the the wide possibilities to open up. Plus with Simba healing and looking past the pain and fear would have allowed him to grow into a much wiser king with a balanced conscious. Much like his father would have wanted.
