  • Euphoria’s Nate Jacobs at first seems like he has it all, so you’d think he’d be a pretty happy guy. But a happy guy Nate Jacobs most certainly is not. He’s a dangerous and spiteful presence, his anger and intensity fusing to form something much darker than your run of the mill teen meanness. So why is Nate so miserable - and so prone to taking his misery out on everyone else? Let’s take a deeper look at Nate’s story to analyze what’s really going on behind all of that anger - and what the true takeaway of his story really is.

Rue also hates herself and so she self-destruct. The only difference is that Nate hides his hurt, he acts like someone else so he repressed his feelings and hurt others, Rue doesn’t hide who she is, she does represses her pain through drugs tho and so she hurt herself.

    I think his pursuit of hypermasculity was/is a way for him to self-soothe that if he doesn't look in any way like his father's partners (underage boys) he wouldn't ever be in that situation (his father would not become attracted to him), as seeing the sex tapes at such young age scared and scarred him.

    Another thing thats really interesting that I wish was explored more in this video is Nate’s relationship with his father and how his fathers repression of sexuality and toxic masculinity was passed down to his son. I also would’ve liked to see how Cal’s sexual repression has contorted itself into being something truly dangerous for Nate. I remember the episode where Cal and Nate fight and Cal has him pinned down and he’s inches away from his face and I seriously thought he was going to kiss him and it was just so gross and fucked up. The fact that they both are attracted to Jules is equally disturbing and says a lot about how they’re expression(or lack thereof) of sexuality is entwined.

    Nathan is an awful human being, I do not care that he is a kid, he has done some MESSED UP stuff. Hitting Maddie, beating Tyler within an inch of his life and then SAing him before sending him to jail for a crime he did not commit, SAing Rue, blackmailing Jules, his relationship and treatment to Cassie.
    Nathan is such an entitled piece of crap, the fact that he is a kid doesn't change all the horrid stuff he and his father has done. Plus, compared to the other main characters, who all have financial burdens and other things, Nathan can fix himself because he has the support and love of his mother and brother, who both have money. But he chooses not to because he thinks his behavior is fine because everyone around him believes that he is entitled to be an asshole, which he is not. And thats the problem with this show!
    Yes, Nathan bad behaver is on display, but like Maddie and her looks, its covered with rose petals and the makes it seem like its okay. Even his own actor has come onto social media and says that Nathan is not someone you should look up. But for some odd reason, the show and its young fans look at him like he is a sex symbol, and thats disturbing

      I totally understand your point but it’s lacking empathy for his experiences that led him to being so awful.
      Doesn’t mean his behavior should be excused but it’s understandable as to why he became pos.
      He’d need like a ton of therapy, medication, and ownership to move forward and be a productive member of society.
      I have no idea if the show will go that route or not.
      Maybe they’ll have them just become more self-destructive and die or get arrested or something who knows.

  • @userjocelyn

    This reminds me of the video analyzing why Regina from Mean Girls was miserable, and Nate and Regina actually share a lot of similarities. They are both obsessed with the ideas of hypermasculinity/femininity, they both have a partner that is considered desirable by people, and fandoms have been speculating that these two characters might be queer. But Regina eventually channels her anger into sport and grows into a different, happier person, while Nate is still Nate and uses sport as a coping mechanism. Characters like Regina and Nate show the danger of being fixated on a certain type of quality and repressing oneself.

  • @thesourpatchkidd579
    @thesourpatchkidd579 Před měsícem +4

    I appreciate you all putting in the work to give his character some depth, because it's more than the writers (sam) ever did. Interestingly all of his family have more interesting and consistent stories and more depth than he ever did, because they started with the premise of him being angry and that there was something more to it, but shifted to using his character as a plot device/jump scare to raise the tension, because Nate's anger and general lack of purpose or depth meant they could throw him into any situation and have him rage out without there needing to be a reason.
    If you've ever seen Young Justice he's very similar to the character Violet who they kept gorily killing because she could resurrect herself. The impact quickly wears off when you use it to create fake tension because there's no long term effects to her death, same with Nate's anger. Do we actually care that he turned in his dad? Nope, cause his dad's a side character and Nate's a one dimensional villain. Why did he wait so long to get the video back from Maddie? Is it cause the writers forgot she stole it? Why not just take it back- why threaten her with a gun? Why was he with Cassie? How come the story completely ignored that he was dating his best friends ex girlfriend and his ex girlfriends best friend? The show either never focuses on how his actions impact him or his life or they make it so they never do, removing all agency and depth from his character and reducing him to a walking jump scare/plot device.
    Notice how even tho he's apart of many storylines, none of them ever connect or impact him because none of them are his storylines- they're almost exclusively him advancing another character's story, usually by being an evil dick. it's clear that at some point, they intended to make him a real character, but he was just too useful as a plot device. The only saving grace is he's not alone in this- the only characters who are actually still characters are Rue, Jules, Fez (RIP) and Lexi once season 2 came around. Everyone else is just vibes

But probably some PPL gets too powerful like nate and out of touch with empathy and thinking he is god in reality a bully. The fact there is always a group who doesn't even tell them how bad they r and just hype them just because the bully has money and everyone just fucking listens to money and power. So the bully thinks he is god. In my case even though my dad isn't portray bully seems nice and honest to others in reality a fucking arrogant who thinks he can do anything with this money. Since everyone listen to him for so long and always seems me from his POV I m being treated like shit. It's the POV and the impression someone creates of u and since the person is own dad and family plus rich so everyone just fucking listens to my fam solution and his demands.
